Those are very different though. The money isn't even close to comparable and the positional scarcity isn't the same. Tallon was hung up on goalies when nobody else was, and he thought he be able to trade his extra one. But people are always on the look out for defensemen and you can always fit multiple defensemen into your roster. There's only room for one starting goalie.

I agree it's probably most worthless, but nobody uses them and I don't think it's "worst" because of that.

This stuff runs the risk of being as useful as the RBI. Giving a player a better defensive ranking because his manager and coaches put him in the right place gives him credit for making plays others could have easily made if given the same coaching staff. Also, I wonder if MLB will ever try and make this sort of shift illegal. If offense keeps declining, with powerful pull hitters resorting to changing their swing or laying down bunts, and a bunch more plays being made that weren't before, they might feel the need to boost offense again. -

Only a handful? I think there's a disconnect somewhere. We all see that running isn't as important in the NFL today. We all also agree that 2 RB systems are cheaper and just as productive (in most occassions) in the NFL. But I don't think NFL GMs have shown that they agree with us. The following teams will be paying a RB either over 7 Million (going by cap hit) this year or over 20 Million over the next 3-5 years. Minnesota, Tennessee, Seattle, Chicago, Baltimore, St Louis, Houston, Carolina, Jacksonville, San Francisco, and Atlanta. Oakland is just short as McFadden's cap hit is like 6.7Mil. Thats 12 of the 32 teams that have significant money tied into just 1 RB. That doesn't even include the teams that have drafted RB in the first round the last few years, that probably are hoping to sign their RBs to long-term contracts if they pan out as expected. 20m over 5 years is hardly a big number. And you didn't exactly list a who's who of smartly led football teams.

I'd imagine so. Or keep Camp in the game? He threw 9 pitches, 4 for strikes, and at least one was very hard hit. He wasn't exactly dealing there.

You shouldn't care about that dumb stat because it's dumb. Like really really dumb. Like dumber than almost any. If it was somebody's potential 300th win, or a retiring pitcher's potential last outing, I could see caring. But Shark is 4-3 on the year and 16-12 for his career, so I can't imagine any reason to care about whether or not he is in-line for the win. If anything, more wins for Shark this season will just make him more expensive next season.

Nah; if the half inning after the stretch is dragging they'll often allow/encourage (politely) the guest to leave. Sounds like Len & Bob just took advantage of the commercial break for the pitching change and ushered him out diplomatically. they almost always (or maybe always) do that with a pitching change. Recently there was somebody who I thought wasn't bad who they got rid of in a hurry.

That's such an asinine straw man. *goes to replay booth* It's not asinine, and it's not a strawman. The call on the field is overturned. You're wrong kyle. The NHL had a problem with a rule about a fraction of a player's skate being in the crease overturning a call, they didn't have a replay problem, they had a dumb rule problem. It's freaking stupid to pretend moments are being ruined when if fact they are not. Moments are happening all the time. You can play the faux traditionalist all you want but it's an idiotic stance with no basis in reality. There is a right or wrong answer, and wanting the play to be called right is that right answer. Pretending sports are ruined by replay is wrong.

Yes, but the market isn't just what the smartest teams think a player is worth, it is what the highest bidder thinks he is worth. And as long as there are teams dumb enough to go all in on a RB then every good RB is going to think he deserves to have somebody go all in with him.

It is already their job to correctly call the game but they can't do it. It should not be umpires from the umpire union who work regular umpire gigs.

How do you figure? Nearly every RB who has gotten the 'big contract' really hasn't produced accordingly. The one guy I can think of that even deserved the money was AP and even then he was hurt last year playing for a team in a rebuilding phase. dumb teams have been paying for the RB of late though. The market is set by everybody, not just the SB champions. the bears don't have to pay what the market sets. they can let him walk if they think he's too expensive. they can take advantage of those dumb teams by dumping money into positions that have more true value, and they have, for the most part. Obviously, that's been my stance. The point, however, is that cubbyvirus asked "how do you figure the market is trending toward the deal Forte wants?" The market has trended there.
