  1. Nobody was pretending they were the greatest show on turf, they were good though. And I'm not sure how you can say player can't be meatball when pretty much everything that defines the meatball comes from the mind of players. Martz had nothing to work with and did a reasonable good job. Tice has been given a hell of a lot more to work with.
  2. I don't think that's really what he said, and we should all hope that is not at all his intentions.
  3. they don't let adulterers back in the country. sharia law
  4. Middlebrooks had an OPS+ of 117 before he got hurt. Jed Lowrie sits at 116, Pedroia - 101, Rizzo - 120, Reddick - 123. Granted Lavarnway hasn't played much in the big leagues this year, and Ellsbury and Kalish have been hurt most of the season. But that lineup doesn't suck. A team constructed solely of homegrown players would indeed suck, and the process of having that team built would be awful for Cubs fans. He made it clear they joked about it and it is impossible.
  5. http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago-cubs/cubs-talk/The-DeJesus-deal-Dont-expect-Cubs-to-mak?blockID=758383&feedID=10336 Here's a Mooney article about "the plan" with a couple links to what Jed had to say on CTL.
  6. I don't get why Jol is the douche/bad guy in this saga.
  7. the awful helmets are clouding your judgement. Those jerseys are terrible.
  8. Umm, yeah, the whole thing is awful. The jersey numbers are 8 sizes too small.
  9. I'll nit pick a little on this. I think the team at the top is good, but I wouldn't want to be without Theo. For me, he's the guy with the ties to the World Series championships. Call me old fashioned but the fact that Theo was a part of 2 WS champs plays a big role in his validity as the captain of the Cubs ship. We're betting he can reproduce that success. None of the current Cubs overhaul even happens without Theo, and Theo doesn't happen without his prior success in Boston. Jed has ties to the championships as well. At least from rankings, he and McLeod turned around the Padres farm pretty quickly. Jed + McLeod would still make me very excited. I'm not sure what you mean by saying none of this happens without Theo. Are you saying Jed wouldn't be here without Theo? I can buy that, but I meant what I said as more of a compliment to Jed than it being a realistic alternative. I would be much more hesitant to get on board with the type of overhaul they are doing if Theo wasn't here. It's tough enough to get on board with this tanking, but at least I have confidence in the group as a whole to eventually get things right. Without Theo I'm not sure I have that confidence.
  10. *Meatball fans* CAUSE HE BROUGHT DAT GREEK ORTHODOX PRIEST TO BLESS THE DUGOUT BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS STARTED...RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE I don't think that's meatballish. I would have fired his ass for that just for thinking up the idea. That's a dumb reason to fire somebody. You'd make a horrible boss.
  11. and you didnt post a link? now THATS surprising. sorry?
  12. http://deadspin.com/5935390/the-mariners-double+a-team-including-felix-hernandezs-brother-went-nutso-when-felix-finished-his-perfect-game Seattle's AA affiliate in Jackson watched the ending on the field.
  13. He'd want out of Wrigley ASAP.
  14. Couldn't agree more. of course
  15. I can't believe you still have notebooks
  16. I was going to put this in the thread about Fleita leaving. I really have no reason to be supportive of Crane Kenney, but the absurdity with all these media people insisting that he is the face of all that is wrong with this team boggles the mind.
  17. I went to my first baseball game at Yankee Stadium last night. Awful stadium.
  18. I can literally imagine thousands of them.
  19. Some moron on deadspin tried to write an article where he claimed steroids didn't help Melky at all, it was just him being in better physical condition that made him better.
  20. Contemplating whether a 26 year old middle infielder will be with the team in 10 years is freaking stupid. If Law was considering long-term to be 8-10 years he's a moron.
  21. the denial I saw sounded more like, "mlb hasn't told me I failed a test", as opposed to I've never done it.
  22. i don't know about that. wilken wants to be the director of amateur scouting somewhere, he wants to run a draft. to a guy like that, the only true promotion is to GM or that fake president tag Theo holds. he may have gotten a nice little raise, theo, jed, and jason may respect him a great deal, enough to give him that raise and keep him around. but he simply wasn't respected enough to be retained in the position that he was in. That's some backward-ass logic right there, Sulley. The fact that they promoted him out of his old position means they didn't respect him? Reeeeeeediculous It's not that crazy of a thought. You "promote" a guy to special assistant to get him out of the day to day aspect of the job because you want somebody else running the day to day and you just want his advice going forward.
  23. Jackson didn't like that strike call, and seeing it live on TV it looked a good bit outside.
  24. I like the multiple extra base hits.
