  1. I guess that's the key difference then. Mather was crummy in < 150 MLB PA's over 2010-11, but in extended time in AAA he was very similar to what we've seen and expected from Sappelt. Spring training numbers aren't worthless because of sample size issues.
  2. The joke is on you, in 2-3 years the Cubs are poised to have a really good low A squad. Watch out!
  3. So Bryan LaHair is going to play third or center?
  4. At some point, Epstein has to take the blame for either the 2012 Red Sox or Cubs. He can't dodge both. He takes blame for the 2012 Cubs. You don't get to take a dive and then dodge the criticism for all the losses you caused by fielding a horrible team.
  5. Move positions. Next question.
  6. Fortunately (or unfortunately...?) the user Slide Castro Slide is incorrect. Yes, the OP was thrilled when Hendry was fired, and was mildly thrilled when Theo was hired but the OP doesn't really have a problem with a rebuilding year or three. The point is that people give Theo a free pass instead of berating some of his poor decisions. He did wreck the Red Sox recently. We can't ignore that. He hardly wrecked the Red Sox. That's a dysfunctional ownership group proving its incompetency on a daily basis. Theo made a poor decision by taking a dive this season. It was unnecessary and highly disappointing.
  7. Hold up a second here. Didn't this mental midget pass on at least one opportunity to be traded to a contender in the past 6 weeks or so? There's little chance the Cubs are WS contenders before his last two years are up. Surely he has to see that, right? Pretty sure there were no trades on the table for Soriano. I think he came out and said he wouldn't want to play in San Fran but I don't think they ever offered anything. Pretty sure everybody knew he turned down trades to San Fran and Pittsburgh.
  8. The plan failed, but overhauling the minor league system and focusing on developing your own players then adding what you need from the free agent pile after your kids start to contribute is the same thing. It failed. But it's the same plan. Hopefully these guys do a better job implementing it.
  9. Parallel fronts says what?
  10. http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/enhanced/terminal05/2012/9/19/15/enhanced-buzz-29958-1348081729-8.jpg DOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN'TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT CCCCCAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRREEEEEEEE
  11. It's not even the first time we've had this plan. It's not? No, not even close. This isn't new. It's new people doing it and hopefully they will do it better, but this has all been done before.
  12. In the battle of backup QBs, who you got? Bradford or Kolb?
  13. Hochuli interacts and communicates with fans. Years ago he was just the ref with the guns, but he made himself a celebrity by responding to all the commentary.
  14. The Cubs problem is the lack of stars and too many black holes. You can get by with scrubs if you have stars and you can get by without stars if you have no scrubs.
  15. Yeah, I don't see the justification for over the top praise, I think B+ might make sense.
  16. He comes off like a prick? Interesting.
  17. Kind of, but even if you read it the "right" way it doesn't make any sense.
  18. The point I got is this guy is disgusted by Cutler but tired of getting crapped on for being such a douchebag about displaying his disgust for Cutler.
  19. That largely depends if you're buying into the Cardinals and Vikings long term. It's the Texans/49ers back to back that still seems like the real potential speed bump for the season. Unrelated, but a pretty good article about how people are tired of the "Cutler is a jerk" story.... http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/47246/the-jay-cutler-personality-debate-is-over It is unacceptable to disrespect a coach yet every single QB in the history of the game has had a heated argument with a coach. Does not compute. The point I heard being made yesterday is that it's fine to argue, but that walking away is disrespectful. Except when there is an actual argument the QB is being disrespectful.

  21. I really should have paid more attention to these things.
  22. You would be angry if they finished the first half 6-2? Personally, I would not be angry. Perhaps I'd lament lost opportunity, but 6-2 would be quite nice.
  23. So you admit there are low expectations. End of discussion, game over.
  24. 2.9 million people are showing up for a team everybody knew was going to suck from Day 1 and has managed to underperform. People are willingly accepting management of one of the most valuable franchises in the game deliberately taking a multi-year dive. Don't pretend low expectations aren't a thing.
