    We aren't ready to go after better players. When Hanson was 22, he was a much better prospect than Delgado ever has been. But, he's 26 now, getting hit harder and has a noticeable loss of velo. Delgado needs a bit of work on his control, but has 2 starter upside. Is Hanson currently a better pitcher? Probably. Will he be at this time next year? My opinion is no. The real question is who will be better in 2016.

    ugga. Really? Why? He'll turn 24 so he won't be that young, but he's only got 1000 professional PA of largely uninspiring performance. If he's got a chance to be a 4th OF why not just wait until 2014 at least so you get the entirety of his prime at dirt cheap prices without the worry of theoretically wasting his performance in the minors (like some may say they did with Rizzo).

    I think somebody would have interest, just not a whole lot by the elite franchises that actually pay big money. And he's not a free agent anyway so there is no point in worrying about it.

    You know damn well this isn't how it works. Some head coaches come from a defensive background, others come from an offensive background. Whichever one it is, they generally oversee that side of the ball and the other is left more under the control of the coordinator. This is how it works throughout the league. Also, one unit is pretty much half the game (a little less, but they've been consistently excellent on special teams too), so being elite on one whole freaking side of the ball is pretty damn impactful and important. And, what's your point? I stated his team has been barely above average and sulley stupidly tried to claim the defensive rankings refute that. This is an offensive/passing first league. That is what matters. Lovie is a 54 year old coach with 3 playoff appearances in his career. He's got a year left on his deal already. There is absolutely no risk of losing Lovie if you don't want to lose him.

    Only to the extent that Lovie finally changed his stance on how the offense should work. I hated Lovie's defense and run the ball first devotion. When in doubt punt. I hated what he did with personnel when he got more power after the SB season. But I have consistently noted that Lovie gets the most out of people. As long as there is greater offensive/passing influence elsewhere on the staff (and as long as he went away from that stupid "college teacher" attitude toward his staff") and they actually win more, he's fine.

    Just nitpicking this point, but you don't think a lot of teams would like to have Lovie? There's a lot of bad head coaches in the league. Absolutely not. Lovie is a joke among a good part of the population. Head coach is as much a strategist as he is a salesman, and you aren't going to sell fan interest with Lovie. He's been in Chicago for a decade and that team has a reputation as defensively dangerous but offensively inept. This is an offense first league. You win with offense, specifically throwing the ball. Lovie's had multiple first round QBs to work with, multiple offensive coordinators, and the best they can do is be respectable with the ball (so far). He's fine here, and probably has more value to the Bears since they like consistency and "good people". They don't want Rex Ryan types and they've shown little to no interest in putting their faith in an up and coming offensive mind. But it would be pointless to sign him to an extension today. The season started out as playoffs or bust, don't be stupid and assume the best from a solid start.

FO's weighted defensive rankings since Lovie arrived: 2012: 1 2011: 1 2010: 5 2009: 21 2008: 7 2007: 4 2006: 2 2005: 2 2004: 12 his defenses have been consistently excellent, not merely "barely above average for years now". He's the head coach, not defensive coordinator. Who the F cares what one unit was ranked. If he wants to go back to being a DC he'll be in demand.

    He gets the most out of these guys, but they've been barely above average for years now. I see no reason to jump the gun. It's not like they are at risk of losing the guy. He is not in high demand around the league and is already under contract through next year. An extension now is pointless.

    Then you have to pay more. Do it now, maybe get a discount. Lots of bad coaches out there. Lovie's at least decent. I don't think they'd have to pay that much more. Going into this season it was playoffs or bust. They fully expected to have to pay up for Lovie if they did well. Now let's wait and see if they actually do well. I see no reason to sign anything today. I assume any talks were about what will they be expecting if/when they actually do accomplish something this year.

    It's hardly sudden. Pittsburgh has a built in love/respect based on years of solid performance.

    I don't get where the Eagles apologist comes up with that. Philly is lucky to be 3-2 and he says "they don't deserve better than 3-2."     In all fairness, would you want to tackle Lance Briggs if you were 40-60 lbs lighter? Head on, no. But coming up on his heals yes, absolutely. Why wouldn't you? It's less of an impact than having a safety trying to tackle you.

    That WR should be getting ripped watching film. As the INT occurs they are essentially moving toward one another. His momentum is already back toward his QB, and a few steps after the INT he's within 2-3 yards of Briggs, and never gets any closer the entire time.

    wtf? Grow up? What the heck is Cutler doing that's not mature? Sorry he's not a media suckup and doesn't really open himself up to the public, but taking shots at him like that is just odd. Oh poor Terry got an interview request turned down (presumably) and now wants to act like an interview with him is the biggest honor you can get in the NFL. Sorry but I can't stand the people who hate on Cutler because he refuses to reform into the stereotypical NFL personality. You have to love one of the most childish morons in sports media chiding somebody for maturity issues. I had heard something about Terry Bradshaw bad mouthing Cutler, and then in the postgame there were comments about it from the other Fox guys, but didn't know what he said until I saw that this morning. I think it was David Haugh who keeps harping on that issue on twitter.

    Marmallard has been yelling at his teammates and coaches more vocally, frequently and obnoxiously for a longer time than Cutler. I wouldn't even compare the two. Back when they faced each other and were mortal enemies and I was an unbiased observer, I could not stand Rivers and the way he acts on the field. He just yells at everybody out there the entire game.
