  1. Nope, what people are saying is that pre-emptively lowering the prices leads them to believe the front office is shooting to make it 290 in 3 years. It's not pre-emptively lowering prices. It's simply lowering prices.
  2. So Soriano for Arod is coming down the pipe.
  3. I don't know about highway robbery (in that, teams at the deadline often over-value guys, and often times, over-value versatile guys with some pop (although I really haven't gone through trades to see if that's true, just feels that way), and it's not like Carreno is an elite arm), but yes ... getting cash (I believe that was the other component of the deal) and a semi-intriguing SP prospect for Baker, a guy who really didn't fit into our near future, is a dang good move. I read that they were still owed another player, but maybe that's changed.
  4. My opinion is that Tice is a bit of a meathead who wants his linemen nasty, and he viewed Williams as not tough enough. If you are going to fail as a linemen for Tice, you better do it with ferocity. Play through pain, go down swinging and all that. Williams has a little bit of a "soft" label on him.
  5. You're allowed to draft other positions. But point taken. Due to a decade of neglect, that year they really had no choice. It was similar to Hendry leaving himself in a position where he had to sign Soriano that year because they had no outfielders. If you fail to address a position that requires multiple bodies to fill for a multi-year period of time, it will bite you in the ass.
  6. Well the writing was on the wall but I still don't understand it.
  7. Please, please, please, please let the bye week give the offense an opportunity to gel. I didn't have a lot of high hopes for the offense early in the season, combining the weak line with the new OC/system. But if this group can get to above average this team has a real shot at being special.
  8. Okay, I understand that interpretation, but, didn't we already expect that to be the case? This isn't so much a sign of other things to come but another step in the process that was made clear long ago.
  9. I don't think so. I just think it's hard to justify raising prices for a team that finished with 100 losses. This is a very modest cut and I don't think this will effect Epstein & Co. rebuilding plans at all. It's not like their only options were to raise or lower them; I was expecting/hoping they'd leave them at their current level. I don't really see the "very, very bad sign". We knew they weren't trying to win in 2013. I guess if you thought they'd spend a ton this winter this could change your opinion. But they are selling a bad product and customers aren't as willing to spend to consume it, so they lowered the price incrementally. It's probably nothing more than a PR move, so they can't get criticized for raising prices and not trying.
  10. Yep. He just yells at everybody the entire game. The old perception of Jay was that he was aloof and didn't care, then he argues with a coach, yells at a teammate and walks away from a potential argument and suddenly he's the crazy hothead. Rivers does nothing but yell at the refs, teammates, opposition, coaches all game long.
  11. I would doubt it.
  12. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8511711/mike-holmgren-cleveland-browns-sale-official-sources-say Holmgren is out
  13. He's 21 with a body that has filled out but people still project his fast ball to accelerate? That seems odd to me. Is that like all the talk that Volstad would eventually throw harder? I've been under the impression that most guys top out velocity wise in their early 20's. Expecting more out of it, aside from a guy going from starter to reliever seems like a lot to ask.
  14. I hate Rivers.
  15. It's a close one, but it's existence can be blamed on the douche who started it so by default that is more tired.
  16. Philly is not a top ten team. Arizona "looking good at the time they played" is meaningless because Arizona isn't good. And they lost to them. They lost to a mediocre Pitt team and a mediocre Detroit team. They barely beat Baltimore and it was at home. And Baltimore isn't as good as you rated them either.
  17. I still don't see how Miami is "just outside the top 8" or how Indy is average. Miami is just another joke in the new joke of a division. And if not for a miraculous win one for the gipper victory last week Indy would be 1-5 with 3 blowout losses.
  18. not at all I assume
  19. Chicago Bears ‏@ChicagoBears LM: #Bears sign TE Brody Eldridge and waive RB Kahlil Bell.
  20. Derek Jeter mourning porn is kind of sexy
  21. FJM continues to wallow in his Boston sports fan self pity. Ken Tremendous ‏@KenTremendous If any person made me as upset, as often, as sports, I would totally not be friends with that person.
  22. Eagles are bad. Lions are still bad until they string some wins together. The Lions have been mediocre. Not bad. http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff2012 I guess it depends on your perspective. Last in the division (standings and DVOA) is bad. Last in a good division doesn't equal bad. Philly is quite mediocre, much like Detroit.
