  1. If anybody spent like a drunken sailor on foreigners the past years its' the Cubs with that one guy they signed just to give them a leg up on signing other guys. Most people went for what was reported and/or a reasonable level.
  2. Honestly, I'm not. Neither am I. The Cubs seem way to conservative right now and there too many teams willing to drop stupid money. The one thing they have seemed willing to do is spend money on guys they can control for several years. They've overspent just because they can and are more willing to do that than trade their quantity guys.

  4. Huh, I thought she was indeed due Sunday. Wasn't that what brought the issue up in the first place? No. In his original response he mentioned Monday being the day, he was just hoping it doesn't come early for some reason. Probably because babies have a tendancy to come earlier than expected.

  6. Doesn't sound like he believes he was wrong.
  7. not really

  9. Agreed. McCarthy is a funny guy on twitter and stuff, but on the mound he's just a worse version of Rich Harden. In what way is McCarthy any version of Harden? He's a good pitcher who has a terrible time staying healthy and pitched for the A's prior to (potentially) pitching for the Cubs. That's a very vague comparison. Harden was a dominating while able to pitch pitcher while McCarthy has been a nice arm to have around when he's been able to pitch.

  11. I'll gladly admit to that. However, I've no doubt a well-read nerd and baseball fan like yourself is aware of that photograph's existence. No? looking at picture books doesn't make one well read
  12. It shows him on his hands and knees biting his lip.
  13. Leave it to baseball fetishists to overemphasize the meaninglessness of a picture. It shows us nothing. A good sports photo shows us something that matters. Not a guy sliding into third.
  14. He wasn't exactly raking. Vitters performed above expectations in AAA this year but he didn't do anything special. Had he, then maybe he makes an appearance. The guy was about 50th in the PCL for OPS. I doubt Jackson would have been much higher if he stayed in AAA and they pretty much had the same ugly start in the majors. 46th, and all of one guy ahead of him was younger than him (Wil Myers, and Rizzo was the only other guy even the same "baseball age" as him) I believe Iowa is also one of the least hitter friendly of the PCL parks. You can put in qualifiers all you want, but he wasn't raking. He was doing well for his age and better than expected. But for a guy who most people have little or no interest in, you have to do a hell of a lot more than an ~860 OPS in the PCL to vault back up lists.

  16. By whom? I have no recollection of ever seeing that picture and there is nothing interesting about it.
  17. Eh, the winter classic is fun and all but it pales in comparison to the greatness of hockey as a whole. I don't even remember who has played which winter classic games other than Chicago and don't really care. I do care about how the final standings add up and how the playoffs play out.
  18. I think Hollandsworth is probably more of a courtesy interview than anything else. I have a feeling we're going to end up with Plesac, which isn't the worst case scenario, but is certainly far from the best. This is really a pretty pathetic list of finalists. I feel like Sutcliffe has to be in the lead if he is actually willing to interview, given how hard they've tried to get him in the past. Still hopeful it ends up being Karros. Considering the concerns that have popped up with Sut and booze, and the fallout from the disgrace of Grace, I wouldn't be surprised if they've cooled quite a bit on Sutcliffe.
  19. Personally, I thought it was the fact that they used the quick slant over an over again. The hurry up was a huge part too though because the Panthers weren't able to change their coverage to adjust to the play though. I just don't think the Bears use the quick slant enough, especially when it's the best weapon against a blitz happy team. I was screaming for a quick slant agains the Packers. Whatever it takes scheme-wise to punish them for the pass rush. Everybody comes hard after Jay on the first play of the game. I heard this morning that the Bears have started the game off with a rush 5 times, and with a pass 3 times, and on all 3 pass plays, they resulted in a sack. There has to be a way to take advantage of that over-eagerness by the opposing defense. In theory, a screen is a great option. I don't see the Bears going with hurry up as much as they may go with no huddle. They want time of possession. With a defense that is about patience and opportunism, and which often spends a lot of time on the field (including after scoring themselves), I think it could be very risky to go with a hurry up.
  20. Yeah I had the same issue with Kate Upton when I saw her making of swimsuit issue video. Kind of jarring.
  21. Yea, that's my issue with him. a little nasally, but that should work in Chicago. Sounds like a good talker to me
  22. The lisp is a really good start. I've never noticed one, and if we hire him and I do notice it and fixate on it, I will blame you. I'm not sure I'd describe it as a lisp, but maybe that is what it technically is. There's definitely a bit of an odd speech impediment of some sort. Yeah, lisp is the right description.
  23. Sure he got hits, but he forgot how he did it. That's the key takeaway.
