  1. I think they called it stress reaction
  2. Yeah, this is what matters most here. It's pretty pointless to talk about going after Rodgers if you have the chance. The Bears are lucky they had the opportunity to get Cutler. They aren't going to stumble into another franchise's elite QB. I'm a believer in drafting QBs on a somewhat regular basis in the middle of drafts and trying to develop them. It helps if you have a competent offensive staff to do the work. But it's useful. I hate wasting millions on veteran backup QBs. If in the next draft there's an intriguing QB available, go ahead and take him.
  3. I'm definitely not disagreeing with you, but I am trying to think of examples of historicaly inept passing teams acquiring a pro bowl caliber QB and the results they got from it. The only thing I can think of is Kurt Warner going to the Giants and watching his career go down the tubes, only to be resurrected in Arizona. I can think of examples of QBs starting their careers at more offensively inept teams and getting traded/cut and then signing with the right team and blowing up. Steve Young and Brett Favre come to mind. There are also a few journeymen QBs that I can think of that get passed around the league and every few years have a revival with the right team. Vinny Testaverde and Kerry Collins are 2 that might fit that mold. New England went to the Super Bowl with Bledsoe a few years after getting past the Eason, Grogan, Wilson, Flutie era. The Rams spent many a year in the throes of mediocrity before Warner changed things. New Orleans never had much.
  4. Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 #Cubs say Garza elbow scan shows normal healing. On track for spring training
  5. there are 4 teams in the league who have made fewer pass attempts than the Bears, and 4 teams in the league who have given up more sacks. There are loads of teams out there who realized long ago that you win consistently in this league through the air. The Bears have paid lip service to that notion only recently but still live with a defense/special teams/running game commitment before passing. I guarantee you Tom Brady would not be Tom Brady if he was drafted by the Bears. Drew Brees would not be Drew Brees in Chicago. Roethlisberger may have been able to do many of the same things he has, although he'd have had to do it with far less at receiver and in the coaching department. Rodgers is a special player, but it helps that he was drafted by a high powered offensive team like Green Bay with a commitment to winning through the air. This is not baseball. Your team, teammates and coaches matter. You cannot simply bring a QB to an offensively inept organization and expect him to put up numbers that QBs on passing-centric teams put up.
  6. My god that is a stupid point to try and make.
  7. It would help if they had a real OC as well.
  8. are you kidding me? The Colts and Packers haven't had a lot of trouble with the position, but nearly every other franchise has struggled with it for decades at a time. San Fran went from Joe Montana to Steve Young. But they haven't exactly been rolling out the studs since the 90's. New England went from Bledsoe to Brady, but prior to that they had garbage. That is why it is so important to protect the one you have when you get it, give him all the tools you can to maximize his abilities, but first and foremost, recognize what you have when you have it.
  9. One word comes into my mind when players anonymously rip a teammate in the press: coward. That's dumb.
  10. They re-sod the thing multiple times every year.
  11. They said he should be stretched out to 5-6 innings by the start of the season. They will use him as a starter if/when he is ready to be pitching in games.
  12. http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2012/11/eric-berry-has-crippling-horse-phobia.html eric berry is afraid of horses
  13. That wasn't the point I was arguing. It's ridiculous to think there are only 4 or 5 QBs who have been doing a better job than him when that number right now is closer to 24 or 25. A QB on an offensive minded dome team isn't necessarily doing better than Cutler just based off a couple numbers. Cutler is on a defensive minded offensively inept organization with a dolt in his first year as OC. Cutler has to run around and throw to Marshall to make any play.
  14. There's almost 4 or 5 in his division who have been better. or 1
  15. I highly doubt that. You think we'll give a 32 year-old with his injury history an extension? I don't think giving him 2-3 years after this year would be all that unrealistic. I mean it's unrealistic to expect him to pitch particularly well before the trade deadline coming off his surgery, so banking on that to make him a worthwhile trade target doesn't make much sense. Considering they will most likely be in the same boat, money to burn and many holes to fill in the rotation, I would agree. If it's just a clean 1 year deal with no option that will make things difficult. You would assume the player would like a full healthy season to perform before hitting free agency. But if you lay the groundwork now maybe you can get a more team friendly extension before he actually hit free agency. There's a chance he will show enough by July to draw trade interest, but that's probably not a great chance.
  16. I tend to think, as of now, that 2015 is probably the most realistic year to begin to make a push. The short of it is, barring some surprises, there just aren't many pieces that we are going to add to the core of Castro/Rizzo in the next year or two. At best, it feels like maybe an piece or two will develop into capable starters, but there just isn't much that we are adding to the core to build around. Thankfully, Castro/Rizzo are young enough that we can take that time. Most of our prime prospects are a few years away, and it's not like we have a ton of assets to bring in a lot of upper level, closer to ready quality talent. I'm not enthused about it. I can understand it, and I'm okay "punting" 2013. I don't know if the general fan base can take 3 years of horrid play, though. we're at 3 years of pretty bad already.
  17. Ideally when signing one of these rehabbers you build yourself in a reward with a cheapish option in exchange for what is a pretty sizable guarantee to a guy who is going to be a major question on opening day.
  18. The sort of genetic abnormalities necessary to create humans capable of playing basketball lends itself to that sort of ugliness.
  19. That's such a stupid pointless comment. People clung to the notion of how ridiculous it was to think this team could lose 100 games this year until they lost 100 games. They put together a crap team that was designed to lose, and it lost. The fact that they kept Garza doesn't change that fact at all. They planned on trading him when they thought they could get peak return and missed an opportunity due to injury. They kept Rizzo at AAA longer than he needed because they were not interested in getting the most they could out of the 2012 team. The notion that some people still pretend that they didn't take a dive this year is mind boggling. I don't know if you need to pretend that isn't the case to convince yourself of something else, but they took a dive. Everybody knows it.
  20. There's like 4 or 5 guys who have been doing a better job than him. He's not going to put up the numbers that a QB from an offensively focused dome team will be able to but he's much better than mediocre. You aren't paying attention if you think he's mediocre. You're not paying attention to the NFL if you don't think his decision making and throwing accuracy leave A LOT to be desired. I think there's plenty of room for improvement, no doubt. But every QB makes bad decisions/throws, and most of them are much worse than Cutler.
  21. Why would that concern you? Oh maybe I would like to post about my alma mater's football team like everyone else without people whining and crying that no one cares about A&M on here. It's what happened over & over a few months ago so I stopped posting about the Aggies. Now others are posting about them so I guess it's OK if I do too. Now I guess you can go back to your HYSTERICAL schtick of confusing A&M with Texas State or Texas Tech. Start talking about Lubbock when you really mean College Station again like the good old days. So [expletive] funny to see that posted over and over and over and over and over. Which one is where those asstomouth freaks are from? Cause I love 'em this week.
  22. There's like 4 or 5 guys who have been doing a better job than him. He's not going to put up the numbers that a QB from an offensively focused dome team will be able to but he's much better than mediocre. You aren't paying attention if you think he's mediocre.
  23. Absolutely, as long as he's not part of the crazies in that organization that implimented that navy seal training for their prospects. As a scout I would doubt it, and my guess would be that is part of the reason he wanted out.
  24. Thank goodness the Cubs franchise has never had that perception! It's not a matter of perception, but reality. The Cubs actively tried to lose last year. They not only accepted it but sought it out. There may have been a perception of the Cubs as lovable losers, but from at least the mid-80's through a couple years ago they were trying really hard to win. The payroll went from middle of the pack to top of the NL and among the highest in baseball. They just really sucked at what they were trying to do. When you actively take a dive as management and you stay on the ground for a prolonged period of time you risk institutionalizing an acceptance of failure. And it's not about the fans, but the organization itself. This is the definition of absurd. Oh, so you're denying they took a dive? I didn't think anybody was still pretending otherwise.
