    You would think with the amount of success Rizzo has had more pitchers would try to work around him and you'd be seeing him either walk, K or hit to weaker contact. Why are people even attempting to pitch to him so much? I expect him to be challenged in the majors but are AAA pitchers just dumb? I guess they are trying to prove themselves against someone who's obviously majors ready but I think I'd work around him.

    Kerry Wood has to be my all time favorite Cub. I saw the 20k game live and it will go down in history to me as the greatest most dominantly pitched game of all time. it should have been a perfect game but Orie had no range and just missed the grounder. No one had or will ever have the "stuff" that Kerry had when he was at the top of his game. I'll miss him and it sucks he had to go out on a bad team pitching poorly. I hope he gets one more dominant inning.

    the city makes a crap load of money off the team from taxes, it has for a very long time. they're just asking for some of that money to be put back into the park before it falls apart. I don't see how what they are asking for is wrong. there are plenty of fat lazy people who don't add anything to the city or economy being supported by government money. there are plenty of places tax money is being wasted if they are looking to balance the budget. Doesn't this board have a place for politics? This is going to turn into a very politically driven thread very quickly. BTW yay for the Ricketts if they get involved in exposing Obama for the joke of a president he is. If the country had known him for what he really was the first time he ran he'd have never been elected. The media has and is doing a grand job of sheltering Obama. He's been easily the worst president of my lifetime.

    Not familiar with Amaya is he anyone of note? Yes - he was the 9th best prospect in the AZL per BA last year and is, imo, a top 30 prospect in the organization. Ah kool, should be interesting to see what he does in his limited chances there.

    When do you start getting angry? when the payroll looks like the pirates? I didn't want either of the big name first basemen but bidding 20 mil on Darvish pretty much as me pissed. Wtf are these guys planning on doing to improve the team? Getting other teams mediocre washed up has beens and drafting well is not going to be a productive strategy for winning before their contracts are up and there will be plenty of people calling for their heads if it hasn't happened by then.

    If we don't go big then I want a fire sale. Pretty much. If we went the firesale route and got some exciting young talent in return, I could still have fun following the team even if we only win 65 games. If keep what we have, don't add any big names (MLB or MILB) and only add a few low priced vets...I'll lose a lot of faith in the direction of the front office. I wouldn't be too upset over not adding Darvish. My guess is as good as anyone's as to whether he'll be successful here or not, but I wouldn't want Theo and Co. investing $100+ MM on something that could turn out to be an unknown. At least we know what Fielder is capable of because he's been doing it at this level for several years. We just can't afford a risk like that right now. I'd much rather have Darvish than Fielder, I'm sure I'm in the minority on that though. I think Darvish is more likely than Fielder to contribute to a winning team over the long haul. Fielder is going to break down quickly I don't see him being as productive as he has for more than 3 to 4 years. It's also easier to find production at first than it is to add an ace starter.

    Good, that means they are smarter than most of the other people on these boards. For someone who despises "these boards" as much as you appear to, you certainly can't help yourself commenting on it all the time. I've never said I despise these boards, but I didn't think Hoyer/Epstien were going to sign Puljos or Fielder to contracts longer than 5 years. I've pretty much said as much several times and been ridiculed for it. Now it looks very likely we won't be signing either one of them, and it feels good to be right.
