  1. Does the baseball pay-per-view package carry the CSN games?
  2. I think Spring training might be the best of the 3 choices. The big wigs are going to say having it after the Series is anti-climactic. I like the idea of having it after the season but I think you'd have alot less interest from the American players and I dont know how you'd deal with the long layoff that most pitchers would have. The season is already long enough, to tack that on to the end of it would make most players think twice about participating I think.
  3. mi spiling steenks *sigh*
  4. Pitchers and catchers report Wensday or Thursday?
  5. Though I love the idea of the WBC and I think it'll be fun and entertaining, I dont think there is a good time for it. Being during spring training you risk having guys injured going into the season. Have it after the World Series and you have pitchers that havent seen action in at least what 3 weeks, which is kinda dangerous to pitchers. If you have it in the middle of the season during the allstar break you take away from the all-star game and you make the break to long. So I cant see anytime as being good for it really.
  6. All games will be broadcast on XM satelite, for those that get it. Just thought Id throw that out there.
  7. What about Tony Graffanino, he would be an upgrade defensively and he hit over .300. He shouldn't be to hard to get since he is just playing a utlity roll with the Redsox.
  8. CubsWin brings up a great point about Dunn becoming very very expensive. We already have expensive players in so many possitions, have you seen our payroll numbers? Granted much of that money has been spent unwisely, but at some point we have to fill more roster spots with inexpensive talent (see the Atlanta Braves) from the minors instead of expensive free agents. If we were producing more quality prospects we wouldn't have to sign mediocre players like JJ to 3 year deals for more than they are worth. While I'd love to have Dunn, Id rather produce a player from our own system that is as good or better. Is Pie a sure thing? No, but there is a limit to how much the Tribune is prepared to spend on payroll Im sure, and Id rather lock up Prior and Zambrano to multi-year deals than have to spend money on possitions we could have developed through our minors. Im really looking forward to seeing what Pie can do, Im hoping he is young enough to refine his batters eye and start drawing more walks with less strike outs.
  9. Yeah I can see the resemblence, if he can get the majority of the playing time I think he will do great this season, Im looking forward to seeing how he and Murton do. Im hoping Rich Hill gets a shot at some point as well. Good to have you aboard danesoz!
  10. thanks Tree, I knew someone had to know =)
  11. Basicly PECOTA is just forcasting what a player might do I guess eh? Still trying to figure out what it stands for though lol.
  12. Wasn't sure where to ask this, so sorry if its in the wrong place. Is anyone familar with BaseballProspectus.com? Is membership worth it? What the heck is a PECOTA? Does it stand for something? I was looking at the free access portions of the PECOTA player cards, they have some really interesting info on them. Well I thought Id get some of you guys opinion on the site, maybe someone here has membership and could give me thier take on the site.
  13. It is out. MVP 2006: The Road to Omaha bah everyone knows baseball with aluminum bats is not real baseball. Someone bought the exclusive rights to make MLB games didnt they? I couldnt remember who. I was hoping it was EA they always do a great job with the MVP games.
  14. I hate to stray off topic but I wonder when MVP 2006 is coming out.
  15. Cedeno or Murton either one would make a better 2 hitter than JJ. JJ should hit 8th.
  16. I've been saying all along that I thought Dusty would play Walker at 2b if he were still on the team. Let's hope that happens. Typical superficial Cub-bashing by BP. They really don't understand the situation either in LF or 2B. I'm wondering what about that analysis is causing problems for you. Everyone in the Cubs organizatin recognizes that Murton is going to be the everyday LF for the Cubs, INCLUDING DUSTY. BP assumes that because Murton and Cedeno are young that Dusty can't wait to replace them with Neifi! and Hairston. Dusty can be faulted for being extra cautious, if somewhat outright biased, against rookies, but he's not stupid. Not stupid? I think thats debateable. I would not be suprised at all to see Dusty play Nefi and Hariston over Murton and Cedeno.
  17. Dusty's veteran fetish really sickens me, I really really hope he gets caned by the allstar break or at least is not resigned for next year. Just my 2 cents. I cant remember a manager that bothered me more filling out a line up than Baker (except maybe Don Baylor, who is basicly just Baker with a different face).
  18. Wasnt Damon Berryhill our catcher in 89? Im thinking that was pre-Wilken. I remember Mclendon doing some catching during the playoffs but I cant rember for the life of me who was the starting catcher.
  19. I guess Im in the minority but Id rather watch a spring training game than a NCAA basketball game of any kind. Im always irritated that it gets all the press during spring training, Im more interested in who the Cubs "B" team beat in a split squad game than who's going to the final 4.
  20. They ought to chain him to his bunk in Mesa, or, failing that, have the Cubs put on Venezuelan uniforms and just tell him they're playing in the WBC. LOL I like the uniform idea.
  21. Well to be honest there is not much else going on. Some of us are deperately bored and ready to watch just about any competitive baseball. I guess since Blanco is our only Cub representative there we may as well root for the guy. Thanks for the updates. *sigh* this is a very boring time of the year. Im sooo ready for spring training to start.
  22. Thanks Balsa I guess thats what I get for not reading all 10 previous pages. Doesnt really look like Lugo is all that much better than Walker defensively. Id love to see upgrade defensively at 2nd but not at great cost and the player would have to be a good deal better than Walker defensively. Im not sure anyone like that is really availible.
  23. It certainly happens and it's possible it happened in Lugo's case. You're right I shouldn't have slapped the label on him. But here's another reason not to want Lugo on the team: Lugo .276/.340/.400 career; .295/.362/.403 '05 Walker .290/.348/.441 career; .305/.355/.474 '05 Lugo/Cedeno is only greater than Cedeno/Walker defensively. Now if you can send Neifi back in the deal, I might be interested. CFP Defense seems to be the main reason they want to get rid of Walker, so if they are looking at Lugo thats probably the reasoning behind it. Im only for getting Lugo if he comes cheap, which is not very likely. I cant profess to know much about Lugo's defense, can someone give me a scouting report or something? How does Lugo's defense compare with Walkers? His range has to be better.
  24. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060202cubs,1,56493.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines This article mentions Zambrano already throwing off the mound and preparing for the WBC. Im guessing he is doing his prep in Arizona training camp. Looks like they are keeping a close eye on him.
  25. dang! Wasn't sure how the playoff system worked for winterball. Thanks for the info.
