  1. Pretty sure it's Scott Moore, one of the prospects we picked up when we shipped Farnsworth to the Tigers. I think he was a former first-round pick whose value was pretty low at the time of the deal because he had yet to have any success at the professional level. He had a pretty good year in the Cubs system in 2005, however, so he's worth keeping an eye on. Thanks Bob
  2. XM is carrying the WGN feed today its on channel 189, it keeps cutting out on me though peridodicly for like a second every now and then at random, very anoying.
  3. I dont have a problem with Grafinino, I know he is an upgrade defensively over Walker and over the course of a season Grafinino could put up similar numbers may slightly less power. Hard to say though really he's not been a starter in a while. Hes had about half the plate appearances of Walker the last couple seasons. Im not sure Id trade Willamson for him though I think thats a steep price to pay. He hit .298 with a .394 OBP last year but only in 215 plate apearances. If he could put up those same numbers over a whole season and play stelar defense it may not be that bad of an idea, if they want to upgrade the defense up the middle. I know most disagree with me though. Tony is the odd man out in Boston with Loretta being there now so you would think we could get him for much less than Willamson, maybe Welmeyer and some other mediocre minor leaguer.
  4. Pierre out on a bunt to third on a 2-1 count bah didnt see Brians post
  5. I recomend the Delphi MyFi, its small and portable. Mine came with a base for the home I have it set up where all I have to do is set it into the cradle and it plays through my computer setup. The antena thats pluged into the base just points to a window and I get perfect reception. When I leave the house I just lift it out of the cradle and drop it in the car cradle that is pluged into my car's cassette player and charger. The transition from car to indoor is seemless. I drive alot so I really enjoy listening to homeplate pretty much all day. I bought mine at Walmart for like 150.00 and it came with all the extra antenas and car kit and all. Its been well worth it.
  6. I thought this game was going to be televized when is the first TV game?
  7. What about the simple fact that he would have gone 9-10 months between meaningful starts? Even if he is physically 100%, including stamina, the ability to harness the art of starting pitching might take a while to get back. I know what you're saying, but I think he'll be fine. His effectiveness should be right about where it's always been. He may have some hiccups coming out of the gate, but the good news is he'll already be on a strict pitch count. With our improved bullpen and having either Williams or Rusch to do some long relief when needed, I'm not extremely worried. I think I'm going to reserve the right to remain cautious. I am going to assume he won't start a big league game until May, and he won't be all that good the first 4-5 times out. But I can live with it as long as he gets 25 starts and have a sub 4.00 ERA the rest of the way. I think those are pretty good expectations to have, at least then you wont be dissapointed and maybe he will even suprise a bit and do better.
  8. Sorry for belittling it was unintentional Here is some additional info: Hendry said Dr. Timothy Kremchek, who performed the surgery on Wood, has been encouraging when he has examined Wood in the last couple of months. thats from Suntimes : http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-kerry15.html
  9. When you jump to conclusions and spew information that is not backed up with any facts/sources and start talking doom and gloom you tend to get that type of response. Here is another link with some additional quotes: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2153676
  10. Here are some facts and links from various sources: The hour-long operation included reinforcement of the labrum, as well as a debridement of the rotator cuff and bursa. The procedure was performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek at Beacon Orthopedics in Sharonville, Ohio. "I spoke with Dr. Kremchek and this was what he was hoping to find when he got in there," Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal said before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. "This is exactly what he was looking for. We're very pleased with that." link - http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2005/08/31/kerry_wood_undergoes_shoulder_surgery?mode=PF this is the AP report basicly
  11. The success rate for labrum surgery (complete tear) is around 95% over 20 years. That's a pretty darn good rate. Wood did not have a tear and he should have been at 100% in terms of healing for a month or two now. The problem with the surgery is that it requires you to not do anything for a long period of time, thus resulting in a need to build back a lot of strength after 5-6 months. Assuming there were no complications with his operation, there should be no "setbacks". Building his strength and endurance back up are really the only things to be concerned with at this point. Did we ever get a clear description of what procedure they did? I feel like I've heard a couple different things. The most common story was that it was the same procedure Matt Morris had the year before. Matty wasn't that good before the surgery, so his mediocre 2005 isn't a great comparison for what Wood could do in 2006. But is it even realistic to think best case scenario is Wood being even close to his peak from the past? Reports that were made right after the surgery on the tribune page said that the doctor found no tear and simply cleaned up the area. There was also a report that when he went to have it checked out before spring training the guy that performed the surgery was very happy with how things looked (Im guessing they did an MRI in Dec/Jan). I wish I could find links. All the reports on Kerry have been possitive that I can remember.
  12. *sigh* Kerry Wood did not have a torn labrum....
  13. I think that's a pretty weak interpretation of what he wrote. I didn't get anything of the sort out of that article. I guess some of that interpretation is because I just heard an interview w/ Carrol earlier today on MLB Homeplate, he just sounds determined that Prior has an injury. You would think if he had a shoulder injury he wouldn't be throwing at this point.
  14. Wood's surgery was not to repair anything, it was just to clean up some scar tissue, at least thats how I understood it. There was no tear or anything that had to be reattached. I remain optimistic that Wood can pitch most of the season once he gets started mid to late April is what Im hoping for.
  15. He makes it sound like he is rooting for Prior to go down to an injury so he can validate his secret source and make himself out to be the know-it-all that he thinks he is. I like Will less and less these days.
  16. viewtopic.php?t=28740 That link is not working for me for some reason
  17. Id rather not see Willamson traded, I think it would weaken the bulpen, unless they can really make out like bandits on some sort of really really good 2nd baseman. I really like the way the bulpen looks this year.
  18. I wish I could get Hendry's opinion on Baker's outlook on walks. If they both share the feeling that walking "cloggs the bases" they should both be run out of town and quickly. As most of us know the Cubs inability to get on base was the glaring weakness of our offense. Its just frustrating as heck to hear the clogging line again, Im trying so hard to forget that Baker thinks this way. How can anyone rationalize thinking that way? AARRRGG! I think I need to go throw things now.
  19. I dont know who the pitching coach in Daytona is but isn't it possible that the Daytona coach has seen some things in his mechanics that he believes he can iron out and perhaps wants to work closely with Veal? Im just thinking since all the coaches are probably there in spring training this might be part of the reason they want to place him in Daytona. I wish we had some first hand info about some of these pitchers at springtraining. Tim are you going to AZ this year?
  20. When I first saw that picture of Soto I said to myself, "When did we sign Boy George". He is one freaky looking fellow.
  21. Personaly I think Rich Hill is a better option than Rusch. Id love to see: Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux Hill If Hill stinks then use Williams or Rush, but I think those 3 are interchangeable unless Williams weight loss and mind set have changed him a great deal over the offseason.
