  1. How many teams in that league? Who was your first pick? 16 teams and I had like the 8th pick. I think I picked Young in the first round because the way the Comisioner had it set up (right before draft time) your roster was 2 players at each position and like 1 bench player. This was later changed, but I put a premium on SS because I felt if I was going to have to have 2 I better get a good one due to possitional scarcity. Then we switched back to a regular roster after the draft *sigh*. Kinda messed up some of my draft strategy but I still feel like I came out OK.
  2. *sigh* thats pretty ridiculous but your entitled you your opinion. Most of the people participating have been getting ready for quite a while they didnt just show up to spring training and expect to go all out early. Besides pitchers are the only ones that I think would experience anything different than a regular sping training game would be and they are on similar pitch counts to what they would be on during thier spring game rotations. What I think is sad is that there will be some players that will get hurt (happens every spring anyway) and when that happens there will be media and fans that will blame the tournament when the player would/could have suffered the same injury on a spring training game field. Its baseball, and these are baseball players, its what they do. I think they are quite capable of preparing early and knowing what they need to do to get ready to play competitively.
  3. Anyone know where I could find a good keeper league to join? Ive always wanted to get into one but didnt know where to look.
  4. C- Paul LaDuca 1B- Chris Shelton 2nd- Chone Figgins 3rd- Eric Chavez SS- Michael Young LF- Matt Holliday CF- Brad Wilkerson RF- Jeremy Hermida Utility- Jimmy Rollins SP- Félix Hernández SP- John Lackey SP- Javier Vazquez RP- Chris Ray RP- Dustin McGowan P- Brad Penny P- Chris Young/Rich Hill/Anthony Reyes Not bad though Id like to Upgrade at catcher and add a dependable/better RP than McGowan
  5. Honestly I dont think that players are anymore at risk playing WBC games then they are while playing spring training games, just my own opinion. I think the more WBC's take place the more players will want to take part in them. Since its never been done before there is a slight lack of interest from some players. I think in later years there is going to be less of people backing out. I think you'll see players seeing the bragging rights from it in years to come. I think when Lee faces Zambrano for instance its something they will both talk about for the rest of the season. If Venezula beats the US for instance, the US players will never hear the end of it from the Venezuelans on the team. The more they play this tournament the bigger its going to get. Its deffinantly something Im looking forward to and something I think is good for the game as a whole. Just my opinion.
  6. Prior looks "sickley" ROFL ...just kidding
  7. The only thing I have seen is this small blurb on the Cubs.com page about his recent bulpen sesion with Blanco. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060222&content_id=1319302&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  8. He must have shown up today, Cubs.com has an article quoting him about him playing in the WBC. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060221&content_id=1317559&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  9. When does extra innings become availible anyway? Sometime in March?
  10. Those are from December, but thanks =) Comcast had a small snipet from him on tonights show but still havent seen anything more recent.
  11. Has anyone seen a Juan Pierre Interview since he showed up for spring training? Is he just not making himself availible? Ive just been looking forward to hearing from him since he got to camp and I havent even seen 1 quote. Maybe Mr. Miles would know something about this. Just figured I'd ask. Someone needs to interview the new guy.
  12. Nothing would make me happier. Amen to that, I look forward to forgeting about Barry. I hope he comes no where near Hank's record.
  13. This doesn't take into account Angel Guzman making his major league debut at the all-star break and then being lights out the rest of the season. Or any trades we might make at the trade deadline. I never take preseason predictions seriously there are way to many factors involved during a season. I think its time for some of our injury bad luck to be transfered to the Cardinals.
  14. Jones is in camp, so he did show early but nothing there about him being any more buff than usual. Guess we will have to wait and see how much of Gwynn's advice rubed off on him. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060216cubsbits,1,3561086.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  15. I bought a Delphi-Myfi portable unit the other day, I can switch from listening on my computer to my car and even record shows and listen to them later. I love it. Home plate is a station where they talk about baseball 24/7, how can anyone not love that. I love it. I heard the whole interview with Stone it was good for the most part, he thinks that the Cardinals will have to play down to the Cubs level for them to win the division. He thinks we are better but only a little bit better. He talked about Sosa and his own playing days, over all it was a great interview. Steve is a great baseball mind and I really miss him on Cubs broadcast. I miss him as much as I miss Harry.
  16. Id love to see Rich Hill win a starting job out of spring training. It could happen...
  17. I got a kick out of this part: "Baker insists he has never had any young players to manage, but now he has them. Murton hit 7 homers in 51 games last season. He’s also a patient and selective hitter, but Baker never has shown tolerance for that kind of guy." lol
  18. Yes it does. I get Extra Innings through DirecTV and they did have quite a few CSN broadcasts last year. Thanks for the info NC, Im deffinantly going to get extra innings this year then.
  19. Yeah the Cubs were interested in trading for him last year but wanted to stick him in the outfield as well. Maybe he will really focus during spring training on improving his defense, it looks like Vidro might not be ready to start the season at 2nd due to his knees or whatever. If he hasnt improve to this point though he may never.
  20. Having both of our catchers in it will be a little odd, who's catching spring training games? Other than them and Lee who else is playing in it from the Cubs? Maybe we'll call in Jose Macias as our emergency catcher. As for who else is playing - I know Z is planning on pitching for Venezuela, but I believe those are the only four. whoops lol I cant believe I forgot Zambrano, of course.
  21. Im interested PM me with the info.
  22. Having both of our catchers in it will be a little odd, who's catching spring training games? Other than them and Lee who else is playing in it from the Cubs?
  23. Straight-up, give me Soriano over Walker. But... 10 mil, the players req'd to get him, and Soriano is not worth the desire for that improvement. Yeah he'd cost us far to much. I heard an interview with a Washington paper guy today, he was saying that the whole situation with Soriano not wanting to move positions is a real mess and he thinks that they will wind up trying to move him but that they will want a "frontline starter". He says that he doesnt see that happening soon though. He said there would not be many teams willing to give up a "frontline starter" at this point. Maybe at some point they get ansy to be rid of him and will take less, maybe a package that includes Rich Hill or something, I dunno...
  24. Oh lord! Please do not even attempt to argue that Walker is a better offensive player than Soriano. Walker didnt hit 36 HR or have 104 RBI. Walkers other stats weren't half what Soriano's were.
  25. Barrett was named to the 30 man US roster today. I remember reading an interview that said something about him not expecting to make the final roster. My only concern is that he wont be used enough to be as ready as he would be during a regular spring training. Its neat that he was chosen though.
