  1. it sucks that hendry couldn't deal Dempster to the Tigers in this trade. Hendry saved three million dollars in this deal and created room in the outfield for Fukodome. A fews years back this board was high on Infante , he's a guy that can play all over the diamond and has some speed and power. Huge upgrade of Fontento. Hopefully Hendry can find ways to continue to shed payroll by punching a ticket of town for Dempster,Ohman,Marquis, to get us in line to make some impact moves.
  2. Fukudome seems to be Hendrys guy this offseason. Hendry targeted Soranio last offseason and got it done quickly expect the same with Fukudome.
  3. Ohman has to have some trade vaule . Romero and Mahay are going to be robbing the bank this winter.
  4. if Wood is resigned or not I would take a look at Gagne in an incentive laden deal.
  5. So take a pay cut and then give him an incentive that relies greatly on the other 24 players around him? Nah, I don't think that will happen. and how pissed would the other 24 players be when he gets $100M for his WS share? Hey, just thinking outside of the box. AROD already has more money than God. Maybe he opted out because he didn't want to be a Yankee. We all know that it's going to be very tough for anyone to beat the Yankees financial offer without being creative. And, it's not like he's getting paid 0, its $20M/year for 5 years with a chance to cash in again in 5 years when he's getting ready to break all of the all time records. Remember, 7 years ago, the guy signed a contract that no one thought he would ever opt out of, now he has a chance to make even more than the $252 million (he already turned down a larger contact with the Yanks) And...if the other players on the Cubs won the WS, I'm sure they wouldn't be hurting financially at all. Look at all of the fringe 85 Bears and the endorsements that they got. Guys like freaking Emery Moorehead got rich by being on that team. I'm sure Zambrano and Lee would have no problem making millions off of endorsements and I'm sure they all have clauses that get them at least some sort of a payout if they win the WS. That contract would not be allowed. You are not allowed to put in incentives based on the performance of the team. Could they do an incentive for WS-at-bats?
  6. I think he's just about run out of gas, If we are going the free agent route and are going to add a starter I would rather gamble on Bartlo Colon.
  7. Charity auction would have been a nice gesture. I would have taken it off there hands . I would have turned into a modern art sculpture i'm sure it would look in my studio apartment.
  8. I really would like abreu on a two year deal and use Lurton as trade bait for a shortstop or a starter.
  9. Abreu would be nice short term soultion in the outfield he still runs pretty well and has a strong arm. I say give Pie the job in center and let's see what he can do, Soranio, Pie , Abreu would be a solid outfield defense. Murton along with others could be shopped to net an upgrade at short .
  10. any idea's who would have been a bigger impact than a guy like Lilly was that Hendry was trying to swing a deal for at the deadline.
  11. depending on what we can do in the outfield , I would do that move. I don't think Cedeno and Patterson are going to play big roles with the Cubs the next few years. The only one you hate to lose in that deal is Gallegher but if Tejeda can return to being a 30 homer threat while hitting in the cubs lineup and getting out Baltimore should help.
  12. besides A-rod , if the yankee's don't pick up Abreu that would a short term deal I wouldn't mind the Cubs exploring.
  13. Depending who's named on this list and who knew what this might bode well for the Cubs having a guy like Cuban in baseball will be some nice postive press 4 them.
  14. huge market, wrigley field, Uncle Lou will allow Alex to be comfortable in his skin again. I honestly think the Cubs get in on this.
  15. Marshall Ohman Patterson Jones These guys are all trade bait and could end up netting the Cubs Renteria, but I would prefer they make a huge run at A-Rod. I'm in favor of keeping Dempster and Wood next season. Let the bullpen be a strength. It would be nice to have Marmol and Howry not be burned out by seasons end again. This isn't a team that needs to be rebuilt it's a team that could easily win 90 plus games with the addition of a healthy Prior and Arod at short. The Cubs for the first time in my lifetime have three young promising postion players ready to contribute in Soto,Pie, Murton. Not to mention some already helping in Hill, Marmol, Theriot, ect. Sorry guys I know this playoff run was brutal but it was three games. Small sample size. We didn't even get a shot to see what Soranio can really do this season with his injurys and postions switches.
  16. Would have like to see Monroe at first today as he is more likely to make the playoff roster.
  17. Next poll Cubs vs mini bears who wins?
  18. Vance I know Garwilly has your info so when your in town we can meet up just again just like at the convention I'm sure I'll have some pieces for you.
  19. I filled up the back of my jeeps bed with a ton of sod last night at about 4:30 a.m after work. Vance you really me to send you some?
  20. I think the Cubs will dump Eyre and Jones on someone , I think counting the Cubs with new ownership, big market, and uncle Lou out of the Arod is silly before the offseason even begins. I have no problem handing right field over to Murton/Floyd with Soranio in left and Pie in center.
  21. Kendall is my choice for backup next season I think he would jump at the chance to return if Hendry can get him to agree to a deal under 2 million . He's a better bet to stay healthy and I think his numbers would improve from the rest of not having to play everyday. Blanco just can't do anything offensively he's a black hole.
  22. The upside is too huge and maybe his health has turned the corner after he gets more inngs as reliver he'll turn the corner.
  23. I would trade Marmol for the right impact bat in the outfield but Dye is not that bat. He's struggled this year, and has a history of injuries. Dye and Matt Thorton for Marmol would give me pause.
  24. This is exactly what I was thinking last season, as I had noted his dismal Septembers around the ASB. I wondered if it would be different this time since the Reds were technically in contention. He responded with his worst numbers yet, I'm afraid. Though he did draw 20 walks in September and no one else on the team was hitting. It's possible he simply wasn't getting anything to hit but still pressed to try to make something happen. I'd love to see what he'd do in a Cubs lineup as more of a complementary player, but if it doesn't happen it may be just as well. yeah, I'd forgotten about last year as I wrote that. maybe I'm biased, but I just like to think that coming to the Chicago Cubs in a playoff race would bring out the best in a player... except maybe Jason Kendall. :( Let's not also Forget Griffey would be back playing for his favorite manager in a very good lineup Fonsie Theriot/DeRosa/Fontenot Lee Ramirez Griffey Derosa Kendall Pie
  25. If there is a three team deal in the works between the Reds/Cubs/Braves I hope the Cubs can find a way to get Renteria along with Griffey.
