    With an off day Thursday I'd hope Maddon only lets Jake go only one more inning. Save his bullets.

    Assuming that Lackey is DL'ed, I hope the Cubs still go with a 6th starter and let Montgomery/Cahill start as well as Z.

    My guess Rivero finally gets his shot, Z becomes first pitcher drafted in the Epstein era to make it the show. Papelbon having not pitched in two weeks goes to Iowa for a tune up.

    Not sure why Lester is being sent out to start the 7th with 103 pitches. 5 run lead/12 game lead. Fresh arm in bullpen with Patton up today.

    Rondon hasn't pitched since August 2. With the off day Monday and doubleheader Tuesday why haven't they just DL'ed him at this point? Its not like he doesn't have a history of arm troubles and we don't have a 13 game lead. The Cubs could start and Cahill and Mautz on Tuesday andd then release Mautz again when it's Rondon time.

    With the off day Monday and the Cubs electing to go with the extra arm , they should have the bullpen start a game this weekend and give the rotation even more rest. Montgermey is still stretched out from starting with the Mariners and Grimm can go multiple innings Sunday before he's optioned down.

    I like it for the time being. Lastalla gets a bunch of ABs in Iowa and stays sharp. Cubs try strike lighting in a bottle with hopes of a Coghlan 2015 showing up. Maddon gets the luxury of "rest" for Heyward and protect Fowlers hammy.

    With three catchers on the roster , would like to see a pinch runner for Ross in a tight game like that.

    why does Maddon refuse to use Richard with big leads? up 7-1 , it would be nice to use are others arms in the pen besides Strop. No point in caring 7-8 relivers if you not going to get them work. Even now warming up Rondon is wasting bullets for later in the year.

    Talked with a Cubs scout today and he mentioned that the Cubs have had multiple scouts following each of Rich Hill's last 3 starts. He's a favorite of Jared Porters, the Cubs also had discussions with Hill during the offseason but not could guarantee him a spot in the rotation. The Cubs view Hill as an Andrew Miller type out of the bullpen for the stretch run while also providing a way to lengthen the Cubs rotation. With high upside SP/multi years control pitchers not growing on trees the Cubs are looking at rentals to fill needs.

    why not sendHeyward to the 15 day DL? He's had a lingering sore wrist and now this new injury. Taylor Davis would make sense as a third catcher on this roster , he can be a bat off the bench /and fill in at 3B/OF in a pinch. Ca

    "Edmondsed" This needs to become a term BA and other outlets use. Felt like he got such a great jump he didn't need to dive for it.

    Baez leads the Cubs in HR and SB at at the All-Star break as a result of Schwarber getting more starts behind the plate than anyway saw coming.

    Badler at BA had a big update on Cuban free agents today that included the Cubs among others. Anyone has the info on the Cubs? Not having a a big draft pool this year and losing our top two picks it would be nice to snag a few more Cubans free agents to deepen the system.

He's still an above average outfielder with some speed and pop. Scuzr has options. Small sample size but in link above it has two great plays Victoriano makes last year with the Angels. Sticking him in LF late in games with Fowler and Heyward covering the rest of the outfield should fun.

    It's fun reading this thread before the Fowler news broke. Odd Junior Lake brought a better return than Coghlan.

    I'd love Holland for next year , but i'm more interested in taking a flier on Joe Nathan for this season.
