  1. I thought the Cubs traded a player to the A's to allow them to keep Scott Chiasson who was a Rule 5 pick. I could be wrong. I would much rather trade Guzman at this point. I would rather gamble on the younger Gaudin staying healthy, and repeating his sucess he's already had against the AL east as a starter/long man. Guzman being cheaper should be more marketable on the trade front.
  2. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-02-cubs-bits-chicago-apr02,0,5554744.story I'm not interested unless it's a minor league deal.
  3. How about Jeff Baker for Angel Guzman and Randy Wells.

  5. Viz has looked pretty solid his last couple outings , Fox has looked great all spring, Hart has been striking everyone out his last few outings . Guzman looks to be trade bait, I would hope they don't have to outright release him .
  6. http://blogs.chron.com/baseballblog/archives/2009/03/drayton_mclanes.html Ed Wade shoots down the rumor , although he did the same thing with Pudge until he was signed.
  7. Astros making some late offseason noise , there close to a one year agreement with Pedro according to ESPN.
  8. on XM this morning they mentioned the Giants as being in contact along with Marlins.
  9. His 06/07 numbers aren't bad for a backup middle infielder, although i would prefer Koskie's power on the bench. Is German above average at any postion with the glove?
  10. He looked terrible tonight, the pickoff throw brutal to watch. What a game though.
  11. If Pedro continues to impress in the classic I would love to have him as a back end of the bullpen option like the Cardinals and Larussa have discussed recently. Getting Pedro would help push Lou to go with five starters this April which I think is in our starters best interest health wise and it pushes Heilman,Marshall ,Guadin to the pen, allowing Shark to start in Iowa for the time being.
  12. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/23188906026EC011862575700079AE16?OpenDocument Seems like they overpaid with Beimel and Ohman still on the market.
  13. Cubs Bobby Crosby Rumor By Tim Dierkes [March 4 at 11:41am CST] According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle: Shortstop Bobby Crosby becomes the A's backup middle infielder with the Orlando Cabrera acquisition, but there could be some interest in him before the spring is over - including from the Cubs, according to one source. One of Chicago's top scouts was watching Tuesday's game and is known to have been a fan of Crosby in the past. The biggest hurdle for a Crosby trade, of course, is the $5.25MM owed to him in 2009. I spoke to a source familiar with the Cubs' thinking, and he said there's "nothing to it." He said the Cubs scout was watching the A's as part of general coverage of all teams.
  14. finally Z is going to get some at bats this spring. I really thought right field would be good for him but if he can handle it behind the plate even better.
  15. I don't know if Rosy ever had the run Hoff has been the last couple spring trainings not even including the hot start he is off to now. He's mashed at triple AAA too, I thought most of Roosvelt Brown prospect status came from his tools and one good showing in the AFL.
  16. It's worth a gamble. That said Pedro or Schilling?
  17. Dennis Reyes is also still without a job and wouldn't look too bad in the back of the bullpen. Hendry might be able to nab a decent b prospect for Cotts if he eats some salary and ships him off to a team like the Marlins.
  18. Sorry I meant Bruce Levine. I can't understand why Hendry hasn't matched thePhillies offer in case Oakland isn't in the bidding and Nomar decides not to hang it up just yet without a ring.
  19. Bruce mentioned the Cubs had interest earlier in the offseason. The Cubs could offer just as many at-bats as the Phillies and a better shot at the post season than Oakland. Lou would be able to find at-bats for Nomar between SS,2B,3B,1B,DH,PH ect. I really hope Hendry will take another look at Nomar.
  20. Fukodome/Johnson Soranio Bradley Ramirez Lee Soto little mike Theriot
  21. With Soto playing in the WBC Hill should get plenty of at-bats to out hit Bako by a large enough gap to hopefully win a job.
  22. If Hudson came cheap enough I would have no problem letting Fontento/Theriot split time at short and letting Miles have a reduced role.
