  1. Man, that would be incredible. 120+ HRs from that lineup's 1-4 would be well within reach. The Cubs would jump out to lots of early leads, which (possibly) would give our pitchers a big boost of confidence from the onset. Strike first, strike hard!
  2. I don't really see it here. Maybe if Barrett keeps eating those bacon cheeseburger pizzas from Gino's, then he'll be fat enough to do the truffle shuffle (the dance not the poster).
  3. http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/fEvCz62J.jpg http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/FNftJJRX.jpg http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/SfUnnYln.jpg Some ex-Cubs now with Texas. Funny how Sosa and the guy we got for trading him both ended up as NRI's for the Rangers.
  4. ahhh my eyes Keep it out of sunlight Never get it wet and never EVER feed it after midnight
  5. They're dead wrong!! It's Scott Eyre who's appeared in 163 games with the Cubs just last season alone. He's so fat that parts of him appear in games he doesn't even pitch?
  6. I hope for Sammy that this thread eventually becomes stickied and grows into the hundreds of pages, documenting his season-long return to greatness, or at least goodness.
  7. I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.
  8. My thinking as well.
  9. Thanks for all the replies. Well I ended up keeping Sizemore, Tejada, Bay, Roberts, Sheets, Lackey, Santana, and Young. It hurt to let go of Furcal but Roberts is about the same player and I have Tejada at SS and I wanted the flexibility in my Util spot. I really wanted to keep Uggla too, but same thing with Roberts at 2B. I couldn't afford to sit on Liriano for a year, and in a year and a half there's no guarantee he'll be the same lights-out pitcher he was in 2006. He may well be, but it remains to be seen. Sheets is always an injury risk, but he had a really solid 2nd half last year, so I hope he's back in form. Fantasy Draft time is one of my favorite times of the year.
  10. All those mentioned are awesome, but my fave is probably the shouting match he got in with Tony La Russa. Examples of that intensity were few and far between, but it sure was great to watch the boiling tensions of the storied Cubs/Cards rivalry manifested in its skippers.
  11. Reading just the first part of the thread title, I figured there was an incident in which a batter got plunked and actually got blown apart.
  12. I'm in a yahoo keeper league in which we hold over 8 players from last year. I've got my list and opinions, but I'd like to hear which 8 guys you'd keep from the same group. A couple tough decisions: Bay Eric Chavez S. Drew P. Feliz Furcal Mora Br Roberts Sizemore Tejada Thames Uggla Varitek Willingham A Benitez Ch Cordero Garland Lackey Liriano Lowry Marshall Rogers E. Santana Sheets Shields Chris R. Young I'll post mine soon, thanks for partaking in this completely useless activity.
  13. For those outside the Chicago area, is there any way to hear the WGN radio games? I know during the regular season, the normal station feed blacks out during games because of MLB's Gameday audio service, but I was hoping spring games might be streamed from WGN, or that Gameday is available as a free trial during ST. Anyone know the deal?
  14. Good idea, I didn't realize the limitations of geocities. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/mmcwilliams1114/floyd.jpg
  15. http://www.geocities.com/mmcwilliams1114/floyd.jpg My photoshop skills don't quite match up with some folks here, but this is what I had in mind.
  16. I interpretted the line "enjoy it while you can" as a reference to the gushing optimism that swells up inside the hearts of all Cubs fans this time of year, thinking "This could actually be the year". And then over the next 6 months all our hopes and dreams are slowly ground into a filmy residue, bitter in taste and foul in odor. This residue taints our souls for the following 3 to 4 months as we wait out the long cold months of winter, until around this time of year when spring training starts and we are once again clean.
  17. Just another assett to these big conglomerates, more numbers on the quarterly report. The Braves should still contend with Cox and Schuerholz at the helm, so long as Liberty doesn't tie their hands too much. It seems to be the concensus by other posters that Liberty will be worse for the Braves than being owned by Time Warner. What are these opinions based on?
  18. Looks like the Phillie's are going with the dreaded "All Catcher lineup", rarely used in contemporary baseball. Though this alignment leaves many areas of the field open, it provides stellar defense against pop fouls.
  19. Must only be in the US then. When I was in Japan a few weeks ago, there was an ad I saw run several times for Asahi beer, prominently featuring Hideki Matsui.
  20. I'm surprised there are no votes for Michael. I voted for Dwight, but Steve Carrell is freaking hilarious. Just a great emsemble cast.
  21. even though he's never played it, I think DeRosa could handle it. Just a hunch.
  22. it's not too late for freel to get another dui and incorporate him Ditto for Furcal. Rays OF Elijah Dukes just busted for pot.
  23. I'm hoping by April 1st we can amass an entire team of players arrested this offseason. We got a 2B, a couple of decent SPs in Peavy and Willis, and who knows? Maybe even a member of the 700 club that perjured himself...
  24. Of course he is. In a trick he learned from Maddux, Jacque's throws helped our pitching staff immensely last year by scuffing the ball as it bounced several times before hitting a cutoff man. This scuffing allowed our pitchers to have more movement on their breaking balls without the suspicion of having to doctor the ball on there on the mound. What, you don't think he'd just make those lousy throws by accident do you? [/sarcasm]
  25. I like Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee's production. They are a direct result of Bobby Hill and Hee Seop Choi so I wdon't find it depressing at all. The only bothersome part would be Don Baylor's choice to keep Jason Bere in the rotation over Juan Cruz. I honestly wasn't thinking about it in that sense. Of course I'm glad those trades were made before Choi and Hill fizzled and lost their value. I was mainly just thinking about Cruz and Prior, how we had two in the top 10 that are now worth nothing and next to nothing, respectively.
