  1. I hope the Cubs can win the WS just for that poor guy's sake. He's been through a whole lot of crap for doing what any of us would have done. Please stop saying this. Maybe you would have done it but I know not everyone would. I know I wouldn't want my hands anywhere near those of one Moises Alou. Yecch.
  2. No new information of course, but it just occurred to me again that Marquis is making twice as much as DeRosa this year and for the following two. That just doesn't sit right with me. DeRo has been huge this year with his patience, versatility, and all-around smart play. No, he's not going to net you 30/100, but up against the middle infielders/supersubs we've had here in recent years.... Derosa's just miles beyond.
  3. So were Skinner and Krabapple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2Nl0sGh768
  4. Guys, Baseball and MDMA don't mix.... til you get to the WS, then shoot smack for alls I care
  5. And you've got your computer next to you posting this? Care to do some play-by-play analysis? Sheeeeesh... the brewers/padres game got muted after the 7th, next thing I know the score is a final in more ways than one. \:D/
  6. I made my lady a delicious dinner, we polished off a bottle and a half of wine, and were having relations just as the Cubs clinched the division. It's been a very, very good night.
  7. Give me an example of when a player is somehow more valuable than what he produces. For the sake of discussion...not being argumentative. Depending on how you define value, the most valuable player could be the most cost effectively productive player. Although I would tend to agree with your general theme. I'll take most productive over most grittiest. That's a valid and interesting point. I'm not sure who the MVP in terms of cost-effective value would be on the Cubs, either. Maybe Rich Hill? Theriot certainly comes into the team picture on this one. Cost-effectiveness? It's gotta be Marmol for me. And while I wasn't sold on the Derosa signing at first, I think he's earned every cent of his contract in his first season with the Cubs. He's solid all over the field, has made a few web gem plays, he's got some pop and that .375 OBP is surpassing my expectations. I'm not saying MVP, but I think he's been an integral part of this year's success, perhaps more than a straight read of his numbers might indicate.
  8. I went to the game today and saw a fair scattering of Cubs garb. It was one of the more exciting games I've been to at Turner Field (2003 NLDS aside). I succumbed the the exercise in groupthought and did a little chopping myself. But people around me got tired of me voicing every Cubs update from the out of town scoreboard. The play where Ned Yost got tossed was a real hoot to be there for. Everyone around me thought the runner was out going back to second, but the tag wasn't there. I though Yost's tantrum was a huge turning point in the game, as well as a manifestation of the entire team's frustration recently. I could not have enjoyed witnessing a meltdown any more than I did today.
  9. While I think Holliday will likely win the MVP - and deservedly so - I think that Jimmy Rollins will get some significant votes. He's having an excellent season, leading the NL in runs, 2nd in hits, 37/43 in SBs, 1 shy of 30 HR, and 90 RBI out of the leadoff spot, and will K less than 100 times. Granted, he benefits from playing in a stacked lineup, but I think if Philly gets into the playoffs he's got to ge some consideration. I think the top 5 will go something like: Holliday Rollins H. Ramirez Fielder Wright
  10. Now there's a quote that's truly sig-worthy.
  11. Ouch for Griffey. Ouch for Theriot missing Quade waving him home.
  12. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw their 3B coach windmilling him on home, I was just hoping that Sori wouldn't airmail it. Great throw, now time for a big hit!
  13. come on guys you gotta catch the foul pop!
  14. Another base hit! Awesome! Soto now 4-4 on the day
  15. Since Canada has one and at one time two major league teams, I'd like to know why MLB hasn't thought to expand into Mexico. It's certainly not due to lack of popularity of the sport in Latin American countries. Could anybody tell me briefly what the major obstacles are to Mexico becoming home to an MLB team? It's an issue I know nothing about, are the ecomics just not favorable?
  16. Well that is certainly the funniest/scariest/lamest thing I've seen all day, thank you very much. Holy crap, wow. I had no idea he sang. Maybe Jessica Simpson told him "crossover star" is the way to go.
  17. Bill Hicks is one of my all-time faves, a huge firebrand and scathingly brilliant. One of the most underrated and influential. Dennis Leary has Hicks' anger, but not the disarming wit, nor does he seems as nice a person, at least going by his writings and albums. I think the standup that David Cross has done is very reminiscient of Bill Hicks, if more in the subject matter and sentiment than in delivery. Some current or recent comedians I find funnier than Dane Cook: Zach Galifiniakis Patton Oswalt Mitch Hedberg (RIP) David Cross George Carlin Steven Wright Demitri Martin Eddie Izzard Tim and Eric (Their live show was insane) Maria Bamford Lewis Black Mike Birbiglia Dave Chapelle Emo Phillips Jim Gaffigan Stephen Lynch at least 3 people I saw at an open mic tonight (seriously) And a few comics that are worse than Dane Cook: Carlos Mencia Nick DiPaulo Rich Vos Lisa Lampanelli Larry the Cable Guy Jeff Foxworthy (the other 2 blue collar guys are tolerable) Gilbert Gottfried Any fat comedian whose only material is about being fat kinda moved off-topic from the MLB playoff promos... split to Social?
  18. Yes, it has been immensely frustrating watching Lee this year take so many pitches for strikes, ones that are belt-high on the outside corner or right over the heart of the plate. Then the next pitch he'll chase something low and strike out or hit weak ground balls. His pitch recognition just doesn't seem to be working, and he is definitely standing too far off the plate. Attention Gerald Perry! DLee needs some serious attention!
  19. I sure do hate me some Hunter Pence
  20. Marshall sure was lucky to get out of that inning having only alllowed one run. Looks like we'll be taxing the pen again today.
  21. Looked like Murton didn't take the best route to that ball, nor did he throw it back to the cutoff with much zip. I think Sori might've gunned down Pence.
  22. Stros with an early lead on a Berkman RBI double, 1-0
  23. I'll take a 2006 Soriano please
