  1. We need a reliever who can't throw strikes! I just hope we can get a guy who can catch the ball.
  2. Thankfully, no. It sounds like Hendry is going to stay away from both of them. Whether it's because of money or because he's gotten smarter, I really don't care. I'm just glad neither of them will be on the Cubs.
  3. What if we got Miguel Cabrera instead? Then would you cry?
  4. http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=94526 In response to an online chat where Keith Law badmouthed Joe Crede, WSI produced gems such as... Who in the hell is Keith Law? He loses all credibility when saying RBI are meaningless. Sure, RBI totals partially depend on circumstances outside of the players control (like who bats in front of him), but they are most certainly not completely meaningless. Saying Joe Crede stinks is the biggest amount of bull**** I've ever heard. Is Keith Law Dayn Perry's understudy? Another unqualified ******* spewing forth. Anyone who wouldn't a take a healthy Joe Crede is absoultey nuts, we saw what he can do in 2006 and he had an amazing second half of '05...the biggest question mark with him right now is his health. That is the only reason that I think a team would be hesistant to acquire him. This is what happens when you let statistical nut cases try to run baseball. You're friend is right...Crede's bat finally came around in the second half of '05 and stayed around for all of '06. He is also one of the best defensive third basemen in the game. Aramis on the other hand...he's a mini-Manny at third base. Plays when he wants to, when he doesn't, he doesn't run out ground balls or pop flys, gets lots of meaningless hits when the team is well out of the game and is just a god awful defensive third baseman. A healthy Crede in a heart beat.
  5. I think there is a zero chance that the Cubs open 2008 with an outfield of Soriano, Pie and Murton. Without knowing what can happen out of house, I don't see a better option. I don't really see the Cubs having interest in Luis Gonzalez, even if it's Hendry.
  6. While I really want Fukudome, would Soriano-Pie-Murton be that bad? We really have no idea what to expect from Pie, but it's reasonable to expect an OPS above .850 from Soriano and one around .810-.830 from Murt. It all comes down to Pie, and he's going to be playing whether Fukudome comes or not.
  7. But will the Cubs acquire him? On a side note, I think this all but rules out k. Matsui, no? It would stand to reason that this is true, but I still have a bad feeling.
  8. No. The crappy Omar Infante will probably get 2m in arby. My bad. And what I don't think anyone has mentioned is that Infante, as bad as he is, might be better than Theriot. Any chance he's our starting shortstop next year?
  9. Didn't we save five million dollars, not three million dollars?
  10. Salary dump? I hope something big is coming.
  11. A win over Western Michigan in Iowa City is all Iowa needs to virtually assure itself of a bowl game. I've been down on Ferentz at times, but he's done a fantastic job this season. Iowa's going to be really good next year.
  12. I can't really be the first person to say this; too many !!'s in this thread.
  13. Haha, Romero is terrible.
  14. Just got back from an all day Iowa game adventure. Amazing that this team is - in all likelyhood - going to go 7-5 (4-4). Superb coaching job by Ferentz. And yeah, I want the Illini to win this one.
  15. My thoughts are pretty much that you're wrong. GMs can and will continue to pay outrageous contracts. Santana's camp will say "Zito got X, so I should get Y."
  16. Makes me realize how lucky we are to have classic uniforms. Can't beat uniforms like the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc...
  17. Stupid question, but when can free agents actually be signed?
  18. Why? because he has nothing left to prove at aaa anymore and he's probably going to put up better numbers than theriot with better defense. What he said. Cedeno won't be great, but he'll be an in-house improvement in all likelyhood.
  19. Sometimes there just aren't any realistic options out there. I'd like Ronny Cedeno, personally.
  20. How is A-Rod making your pitching worse? You have plenty of money. Get pitching and keep the best hitter in baseball.
  21. Without A-Rod, I doubt the Yankees are a playoff team. Like I said, Betimet will be good, but they need more improvement elsewhere.
  22. I'd almost guarantee Betimet is going to be the starting third baseman. Quite frankly, that's not a bad thing.
  23. With very rare exceptions, guys don't just "figure things out" when it comes to completely changing their career norms.
