  1. How ridiculous is it that UEFA WC qualifiers have neither goal line technology nor VAR?
  2. I wrote that before watching second half - I always feel more confident about young players with good movement - seems harder to learn to me so when he pops up in the right place all the time, it encourages me on Reyna. That said, letting the ball slide outside your foot on a through ball is a huge pet peeve . . . You could make a good argument Dest is the better player in terms of complete participation with his defensive effort. The two of them on the one side of the field looks absolutely lethal. The announcers were killing me with their constant talk of Dest needing to play right since that's where he plays for Barcelona. First, he plays wingback currently, which is not exactly the same position. Second, the USMNT will never be Barcelona - no international team will be. It's a totally different setup. Pretty sure Dest is fine on the left.
  3. Not sure I agree with either of these points - Dest is pretty damn tight. Good argument to be having. I haven't seen much wrong with Reyna.
  4. I know just being a smart ass.
  5. Here are some Barca goals heavily featuring outside backs . . . :D
  6. not to be argumentative, but I've watched a lot of Barca and don't recall ever once seeing a goal like that . . . they play left on left and right on right so not a likely scenario. in any case, a nice goal!
  7. I don't get all the Chelsea love. While they can compete with those three teams, I don't see them as favorites in any of those matchups - maybe a slight favorite versus Porto.
  8. on the plus side, it doubles the number of games between those teams.
  9. we're the biggest losers with all the good teams on one side.
  10. good first win for olympic qualifying.
  11. That has to be pretty disappointing. Didn't the Zagreb coach just go to prison this week also? Maybe he was the problem. Assuming they don’t go and win the next four league games to put themselves in UCL position, I hope City hammers them in the League Cup final. I read a few weeks ago part of the reason Jose was still there was because they were still in the Europa and had a final coming up. Playing in the crappy third tier European competition next year (the reward for winning the Peague Cup) does nothing for me. Never was a fan of this hire. The Dele Alli scenario was so predictable. Jose is toxic. Owners would be wise to stop trying to find magic fix retread managers and understand that getting the right players is what leads to wins.

  13. https://www.espn.com/soccer/english-premier-league/story/4336597/changes-to-offside-rule-could-help-avoid-risky-plays-like-patricios-head-injury I really don't get this argument. The injury happened in a normal soccer play - the fact that is was potentially offside is irrelevant. The fact that you can disallow a bunch of goals that should count is far worse than the risk that a player gets hurt on a play that didn't count. Glad he's ok, but for me, two players going for a header is far scarier.
  14. 18 year old with those skills and athleticism and he seems to be a great guy.
  15. Musah! This is big. https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4328933/valencias-yunus-musah-picks-united-states-over-england
  16. don't look now but Sargent seems to be scoring goals lately.
  17. ESPN has the result incorrect - Porto goes through on away goal 2-1 is correct? They should have started McKennie Yes, I was watching extra time on mute and wasn't sure if Porto had won or if it was going to penalties until I saw the post-match reaction. what a terrible goal for Juve to give up - you can't allow a free kick from there.
  18. or not ESPN has the result incorrect - Porto goes through on away goal 2-1 is correct? They should have started McKennie
  19. well, that is entertaining. Haaland scores again to make it 2-0 except he knocks down the defender before scoring. It's a 50/50 call (in my mind) but the ref is off the hook by a clear pull back on Haaland seconds earlier leading to a penalty for Dortmund. Haaland takes the penalty but it is saved along with a point blank follow up and then another rebound shot. The keeper goads Haaland only for replay to show he was off the line. Haaland sinks the retake off the keeper's hand then screams in his face. The replay showed the keeper was off the line again had he saved it.
  20. https://www.espn.com/soccer/chelsea/story/4333242/chelseas-tuchel-says-strong-from-bench-pulisic-needs-to-have-patience Well, it is hard to argue with the value of his two minutes of sub time!
  21. didn't get to watch but looks like it went well for Chelsea
  22. I've seen it numerous times from Chelsea perhaps it was with Lampard. Never works (though perhaps a 0-0 draw is what the coach was after). Ok so we are probably closer to the same page than we think. I wasn’t exactly a lampard out guy but I thought his use of the midfield was terrible and it’s why I supported his firing. I think the 3-4-2-1 tuchel is using is hamstringing the offense a bit but it’s definitely in order to make the defense stronger and a side effect is that he’s actually using the midfield appropriately with the jorghino/kovacic or Kante pairing. yes, that's what I saying. No Mount or Kante today against Everton.
  23. Yeah agreed. I suppose they wanted Kante to break up the midfield which he did (I believe he was motm) but offensively they had nothing and mount was mostly ineffective. But that’s only one game. You’ll always be able to find a lineup that didn’t work I've seen it numerous times from Chelsea perhaps it was with Lampard. Never works (though perhaps a 0-0 draw is what the coach was after).
