  1. While this probably wont happen, you guys are once again over valueing cubs players. Nobody wants murton his power has regressed alot and he is a mediocre defender at best. And like another poster said Hill has hit rock bottom and is struggling with AAA hitters. I was begging for Hill to be traded last year because he was likely to regress this year. He has a mediocre 89mph fastball, spotty command, a big predictable/overused curve ball, and a crappy change up that he never uses. Add into that the fact that he is 28 years old, cant hold runners on base, and despite his intelligence appears easily shook and mentally weak on the mound. Sure he k's alot of people but dont kid yourself other teams are going to look at all of that other stuff as well.
  2. I always wondered why some team hadt tried to convert a cricket player. Similar skill set. If this works out you might see more teams try that route. It would be cool to see what a pro cricket player could do in the majors though.
  3. Lou has done nothing to "ruin" his number two starter. hill has pitched like straight crap cut and dry. Its hard for me to understand that anyone can see it different because the guy hasnt been able to get the ball over the plate since day one of spring training. the problem is that you guys have put hill on a pedestal he does not belong on. Ive said it all along he cannot get by as a mlb starter with one good pitch, his fastball is mediocre, and his change non existant. Combine that with his consistent lack of controll and you have one very ineffective pitcher.
  4. There is no way the rays trade Brignac for anything short of another potential star probably a pitcher or two. Power hitting shortstops are way too rare commodity. That said, there have been questions about Brignac's staying power at shortstop and he is off to a slow start this year.
  5. I think the whole point was to let fukudome hit third out of respect. Or avoid a situation of misinterpreted disrespect. In any case 7 ab's isnt long enough to tell if he's a 3 hitter or nine.
  6. streaky thats how I'll remember him. Unbelievable for a month at a time.
  7. who ever said so, Bridgeport is not a bad nieghborhood. A neighborhood in transition yes, but certainly not "dangerous." I feel just as comfortable walking there as most other parts of the city.
  8. I would definetly go to the cell to watch a cubs game just like I go to milwaukee to watch a game. the cell is actually a pretty good place to watch a game, too.
  9. wow you guys need to re-read that article. McClaren says that Ichiro could steal eighty bases. Its basically an exageration saying that they want Ichiro to run more like in years past.
  10. These commitees are the always a misappropriation of funds. That said I'm tired of Roger's annual charade and his arrogance. I would love to see the feds stick it to him.
  11. apparently troy Patton is still injured according to rotoworld. So maybe, this will get things going. With patton out they need pitching. Perhaps marshall and two prospects can get this done.
  12. Derosa played shortstop for eight innings last year in a pinch. No errors, 2 catches, 1 putout, 1 assist.
  13. I think the reds will get pierre before the cubs do. Dusty loves Juan and if that means sitting Jay Bruce or another young player we know what Dusty will do.
  14. Bad News said: ontext. It means reading an entire paragraph to understand it as as whole to understand the individual statements, rather than pointing out the part that you personally dislike. The comparison of Rich hill to Al Lieter as opposed to Walter Johnson, arguably the best left hander to ever pitch a game, was in response to the "do not trade Rich Hill under any circumstances" argument. Essentially, all I'm saying is that Rich Hill should be available in trade talks because he is not a dominant lefty. Bedard has a better breaking ball, a much better fast ball, has faced better hitters with more success, and is younger. The fact that he may command more money in 2010 his free agent year is of no concern to me now if we can win now.
  15. Didnt Bill James have Rich Hill leading the 2007 NL in era and k's? At any rate, Id trade Rich Hill any day for that line up and that pitching staff. I cant understand the "dont trade Hill under any circumstances" argument. If it makes us better why not? We develop pitching pretty well. Trading it for position players, which we dont develop, is what we are supposed to do get better. Besides Hill is a lot closer to being Al Lieter than he is Walter Johnson.
  16. I'm glad someone mentioned that Gherig season. That was a gross oversight. Here are some more Nap Lajoie: 1901 A's .426 avg, 125 rbi's, 14hr (deadball era), 14 triples, 48 doubles, 350 total bases in 131 games Roger Horsby 1925 .401 avg, 143 rbi, 39 HR, ops 1.232 playing second base!
  17. soto dropped a lot of weight last off season and the hard work paid off. I doubt Soto was ever 'training' inotherwords taking steroids ala Roger Clemens. If anything he stopped hanging out with Cecil Fielder at the buffet line.
  18. I guess Burke is decent enough insurance for Orlando Hudson at second but will he be used anywhere else? When he had that five hit game against the cubs a couple of years ago I remember thinking he was going to be a real good player. But Houston kept moving him around so that Biggio could keep playing and he seemed to get worse with less playing time. Its too bad it doesnt look like he is going to see much more playing time in AZ.
  19. Id be interested in Colon if he promised not to stay at the buffet table too long. He is a poster child for what zambrano shouldnt do. But as I say if he loses weight he might be worth it.
  20. Its not the worst idea in the world. But i do know that Soriano speaks japanese pretty well from his years with the Hiroshima Carp, and Derek Lee spent a portion of his childhood there while his father was playing ball.
  21. the white sox did a turn back the clock with the cubs in 04 or 05 at the cell. It think Z pitched in the 1908 uni's. They looked sweet. Im not so crazy about the frown on the 48 jerseys.
  22. I think there is a great chance that Prior's chronic injuries were a manifestation of compensating for an injured shoulder rather than just being injury plagued. Ive got to believe that his shoulder problems led to his achilles problems in 04 and 05. Wood is another great example. His arm issues eventually led to knee surgery. The body's reaction to a mis-alignment is amazing.
  23. come on, al east hitters are equivilent to those of the NL central? Thats absurd. As for his mental toughness. I point toward his era with men on base, his inability to make adjustments in high pressure situations and his tendency to give up the long ball. You may see that as something else, but I see it as being rex grossmanesque ie cant take the pressure. Also assuming that his k rate will equal that of his minor league record is ignorant. Double A and Triple A hitters usually have trouble hitting curve balls and breaking balls. Good major leaguers dont. His stuff just isnt that great. His curve is good but 88-90mph fastball with out another secondary pitch isnt going to work in his favor. I say trade him now before he gets worse. You and I both know that the league makes adjustments they'll do the same with him and he has nothing else is his repotoire to throw them off. Trade him while he still has value.
  24. not sure who you were watching but theriot was pretty darn good defensively this year. As for Everett no way he takes a competition offer when he can get a starting gig with the twins, O's, blue jays, among others.
