  1. 1) D-Lee - I hate the double plays but I hate them more because he's batting third 2) Gathright- why is he here? Why do we need 5 outfielders when three of them can play center? 3) Gaudin - has been terrible since he's been here
  2. Ive got to applaud lou and Jim for making the right move with Koyie Hill and Marmol. I think we'll be a better team for it. Lets hope they keep Patton as well it'd be a shame to give him back after the way he has pitched.
  3. Pierre seems like a juicer to me. New drug testing rules correlate directly to his drastic decline. Maybe coincidence maybe not? True he never had any sort of power but lots of speed guys rely on roids and various blood builders to stay at peak performance and increase speed, recovery time, and strength. For Pierre a step or a step and half is all the difference between being an allstar and riding the pine for the dodgers. Just kind of thinking out loud here...
  4. You guys are nuts. Why dont I like him? I dont think he has proven much of anything. Ted Lilly was/ is much better. What I dont understand is why so much love for a guy with a 4 + era? Are you guys enamored by the strikeout? Do you know how many guys have shown a flash of brilliance and then fizzled out? If he was a great pitcher for 3/4 of a season or even a couple of seasons I would be on your side. The fact is he has so much going against him that this is pretty much his last chance. I trust that the cubs have made the right decision here because he wasn't good enough to even make this team. Ill take sean marshall over him anyday at least I know what pitcher is going to show up. There is no room for inconsistency in the mlb. What I want to know is why all the love for a mediocre pitcher with control problems?
  5. I think its pretty clear from this quote that I wasnt happy with his performance hence the qualifier "as a pitcher." I dont see how that is remotely about his personality. However, I do think that he does wilt when the pressure is on stats can support that. See the Arizona playoff game for a prime example and batting avg against in certain counts. Either way because I think he is mentally weak has nothing to do with a personal attack on him. There is obvious reason to think so and I am clearly not the only one You must have one heck of a man-crush on Rich Hill or you are a relative because this is ridiculous.
  6. Zambrano is far from perfect but he has showed consistent stretches of pitching at an exceptional level. Rich Hill on the other only has those few games to stand on and that was two or more years ago. What has he done to warrant the cubs keeping him around? Mark Prior was awesome in 03 does that mean he will be this year? Should we have kept him? Hee Sop Choi had an ops of .988 in april of 03 was it a mistake to get rid of him? Cause that is where your line of thinking goes. Rich has poor control, a sub par fast ball, and doesnt even have a third pitch. It makes him predictable and inefficient. Not to mention he is easy to rattle. Dont forget this is the same guy who had a 6.86 era in the Venezeulla Winter league. If you want to continue thinking that we traded the next Walter Johnson then fine, thats your perogative. But know that the stats point in the other direction.

He had one good month. You cant argue with the stats. I bet you guys think the guy below was a star too. 8. I should clarify when I said I never liked Rich Hill the pitcher, I meant I never thought he was that great, which is why I wrote Rich Hill the pitcher. Rich Hill the person, I could care less about. If you look at his 2007 stats he was not that great. Take away the month of april where he went 3-1 with a superb 1.77 era. and you have nothing more than a mediocre pitcher. He had a 4.40 era after april and a whip of 1.27 good for about 50th among starters with 100 or more innings that year. Thus for five months out of the year Rich Hill was nothing more than a league average pitcher. He had one good month thats pretty much it. NL West teams and NL east teams, the good divisions that year; manhandeled him. 7 of his 11 wins came against the central which if you guys remember correctly was mediocre. Vs everyone else Rich was 3 and 7 with a whip of 1.354. So forgive me but this is why I think Rich will get beat up in the AL. There are no Pirates, Reds, or Astros in the AL. ALso the AL is not kind to guys who have controll problems.
  9. I never liked rich hill as a pitcher but I will feel bad for him after the beating the AL East will give him this year. Even at his best he doesnt have the pitches, location, or tenacity to compete in that division. Its going to be ugly.
  10. This certainly wont endear Manny or Boras to anyone. People are losing their jobs in droves and 25 mil isnt enough for him? He has made $162,258,269 though out his career at what point does he have enough? If hes looking for respect the dodgers have already gone out of their way to show him respect. At this stage of his career place should be more important than price. The fact is he is a risk to flake out , 37 years old, a butcher in left field, and clearly a classless human being. Manny used to be my favorite player but now I hope he just retires.
  11. Coors field may boost his offense but it will certainly diminish what ever defensive skills he had. Imagine him trying to run down a ball in the gap. I agree with badnews, Murton is just not as good as everyone thinks he is, rather, wants him to be.
  12. Even when he was good it just seemed obvious that he was still fighting himself out there. He had that deer in the head lights look everytime someone got a big hit. And he was very pre-occupied with men on base. Plus you just cant live off of one pitch in the majors. Yeah he had a great hook but a mediocre 88-90 mph fast ball and a non-existant change makes it hard to be perfect.
  13. I never really bought in to Rich Hill and consistently said he should be traded. As Ive said before at best he's Al Lieter which isnt that great at worst he is ... Rich Hill. Im pretty confident he will never have much of a career at least as a starter. His worst attribute is his lack of mental toughness. Big hits, too many walks, men of base rattle this young man like it would a highschooler. I would imagine the AL east will be greeting him quite rudely. Its a shame he wasnt traded last year.
  14. Rich hill at his best would get knocked around in the AL East with or without RIck Kranitz. The NL West is where he needs to go if he want to have a career.
  15. seriously, six guys are not going to break out at each level. That would never happen even in the best farm system. As cubs fans we would be lucky to see one or two guys "breakout" total. That said i see Jay Jackson continuing his pitching dominance in higher levels and James Adduci establishing himself as an outfield prospect. Lets face it, there are no Evan Longoria's here who are going to fly through the system.
  16. This is a good trade. Olson is a live arm and Williamson has potential. I think pie will eventually figure it out but that wasnt going to happen here. Whether we parlay some of these pitching prospects into Peavy or another good pitcher or are just restoking the farm this is a good deal.
  17. uh, no. he wasnt heralded as much of anything thats why he got a 2 year 4 million dollar deal. But he ended up being really good. This kid is 19 and just got a major league contract for 11 mill. Thats pretty rare for a 19 year old.
  18. How bout we just get rid of that song it is horrible.
  19. 3 errors, one bif by theriot reaching barehanded for a ball he could have grabbed with is mit
  20. whats wrong with reed johnson in right? Fukudome is lost.
  21. I give z credit for remaining pretty calm. maybe, hopefully, he'll jack one out in this coming inning. Cause we need a spark bad.
  22. I have never seen anything like that in my life. These guys are playing tight.
