  1. I knew this would be a tough game with Lowe's sinker and the cool weather but I had no idea dempster would choose today to revisit 2007. Our one two and five hitters cant go 0 for 12. Plain and simple. All the pressure is back on Z so lets see what happens tomorrow.
  2. quite honestly we signed him at 28 years old and he did have some success prior to his abysmal 05 year with the cardinals. Not to mention he has always had good "stuff." Its always been his inability to consistently pitch to his strengths that has hurt him. Based on all of this I understand why we signed him.
  3. Grant Johnson does look alot better lately. I wonder about the present velocity because he looked terrible from the pen early on. Maybe he does have back-end of the rotation potential after all. Nice to see a 2001 highschool alumni regain some form.
  4. I think its funny that you guys quote stats all day to argue with people. But when one of your favorites ie Rich Hill or Derek Lee is performing bad its simply a statistical anomaly.
  5. I think the point is we dont want a repeat of the 07 playoffs. Lee in the three hole pumping out groundballs is not going to get us to the WS. He needs to start hitting or sitting. Either way Hoffpauir has shown us he deserves to be up here. His numbers in 60 games played at iowa are crazy. Bring up the Hoff and let Lee "freshen up" and hopefully he gets his head straight.
  6. Sheffield actually admitted to not playing hard and purposely making errors to get out of Milwaukee. By far the most selfish player ever. Two things happen if we claim him one, he goes on a crazy tear or the most likely senario he becomes such a distraction that we miss the playoffs. High risk, high reward. If he would be a bench guy id take him over ward because he could play 1st, lf, or Rf. For this to be an option Detroit would have to pay all of this year and at least ten mil of next years salary.
  7. If lou is putting fukudome on notice shouldnt he put Lee on notice? Not that either of them are going anywhere but lee is the one killing our offense right now. The gidp's are becoming a joke he is on pace to set the major league all-time record. In the last thirty days hes batting .245 his power is gone. He currently has the lowest ops he has had since 2001. Shoot derosa almost has as many rbi's. If lou is calling people out he better call out lee also because lee's hitting in the three hole affects us much more than Fukudome batting eighth.
  8. "Part of the reason why Donaldson was drafted in the supplemental round and not as a legit first rounder was due to questions about his future as a catcher." - Cubs Hub scouting report for Donaldson I guess "dropped" isnt exactly the right word to use because he didnt slide on draft day, but my point was that his offense certainly top notch and had there not been questions about his staying power at the catching position than he would have been drafted higher. You're kind of splitting hairs though.
  9. Portland would be good because it would make for a great rivalry with the mariners who as it stands really dont have a geographic rival. And instead of bleachers they can just do a general admission big grassy nole like at minor league parks. The hippies out there would love it. I could also see teams in Jersey City, Nashville or Memphis, Sacramento, and Austin. Jersey City could probably do very well do to proximity to the NYC financial district and existing public tranportation systems. Think the Meadowlands where the Giants play. I would love to see more teams though. Especially if it evens divisions out.
  10. I wonder if they will start to dh donaldson. If I remember correctly he was a top 20 pick offensively but lacked a defensive position, which is why he fell to the cubs and why they moved him to catcher. He was definitely the sleeper of the deal, in my oppinion the guy with the highest ceiling of all four players traded to A's.
  11. Rules: post one potential waiver wire player with a description and potential destination. Adam Dunn, LF Reds Surprised he didnt get moved at the 31st deadline. Most people believe hes not in the future for the Reds. The fact is he is a butcher in the field. However he still has an ops over .900 32 dingers and 74 rbi's and hes actually picked up his terrible average ten points in his last ten games. so he still has quite a bit of value for the right team. A move to the american league is obvious and the rays were known to be interested but couldnt get a deal worked out in time. Potential destination: Rays. Takes over as DH and makes a dangerous team even better. Now your turn.
  12. on another note Hendry has mentioned Rios in the past
  13. I think that this points to a larger problem. Ramirez and Lee are way too streaky. Add Soriano to the mix and you have three of your your top four guys who flip the switch from week to week especially when facing good pitching. This is why we did bad in the playoffs last year. These guys couldnt turn it on when neccessary. I dont know how you fix the problem. But I can tell you from watching everygame that when lee does gets his hits they are more than often with out base runners in scoring position. Despite his seemingly good numbers his lack of timely hitting makes me dread his presence in the three hole. I dont know what if anything can be done about this through.
  14. as far as the trop goes and domes in general; the ceiling should be painted blue or a darker color. There is no way that it should be almost the same color as the ball. Also isnt their something up with the color of the batters eye in the trop? I remember Len and Bob talking about how that makes Kazmir almost unhittable at home. Back to bonds. I have no doubt in my mind he could still play. he'd be a great pinch hitter and probably a good dh in the AL. Plenty of guys juiced but no player I have ever seen has the hand eye coordination that Bonds has. The fact that he posted this line at age 43: .276/.480/.565./1.045 with 28 homers and 66 rbi's in limited play on a crap team is pretty darn good. Good enough to keep playing at least. In baseball just about anything goes: cheaters, drug addicts, wife beaters, fellons etc. If Bonds didnt spend 21 years alienating himself from everyone in baseball he'd probably still be playing.
  15. Everyone here assumes that it is Lou but it could just as likely be a nagging injury, Hart's potential to pitch more innings, or the fact that righties are batting .292 against him.
  16. The dodgers offer is not that great Ive seen enough of Hu and LaRoche and they are decent prospects but not perennial allstars. Laporta has that talent. Despite this years anemic offense Cleveland should be looking for pitching. Without Sabathia their staff doesnt look great. Carmona will be back, Laffey has looked good but Lee will come back down to earth and Westbrook is a question mark going forward. Prospect David Huff is good but is he ready? Their top prospect Adam Miller cant stay healthy to save his life. Beyond that it is slim pickens. They've got alot of questions about a rotation w/out sabathia. Biggest needs are a front line starter or two good starters and bullpen help/potential closers.
  17. I'll go ahead and say that Fukudome shouldnt be an all star based on numbers but he definetly makes the all star team better defensively. I just dont get Griffey getting votes like he is and that really why I hate the whole voting thing anyways. There sure are a lot of NL outfielders having a down/injury plagued year.
  18. I was thinking along the lines of murton vs lefties and kroeger vs righties would be a decent bandaid until we get some of these other guys back.
  19. With E patt in the lou's dog house and likely on his way back to iowa and murton not showing much of anything is it time to call up Josh Kroeger? lefty, decent power numbers, hits righties well I assume he can play left if hes playing right in Iowa. might be a good spark until soriano/johnson comes back. Or he might not, discuss. AA 07 .382 .449 .609 1058 11 hrs AAA 07 263 .338 .474 812 10 hrs AAA 08 .284 .354 .488 .842 10 hrs
  20. mark pawelak our first round draft pick a couple of years ago. Tripped over his playstation while going for a glass of water in the middle of the night and broke his non pitching arm.
  21. we already have one mediocre lefty with a gimmick hook. why do we need an overpaid, older version who walks just as many batters?
  22. his career high for gidp is 18 so he already surpassed it today thats pretty drastic. On pace to double his previous high and surpass the record. Whats more concerning is that he just looks like hes guessing instead of making a decision based on pitch recognition. Yeah, i dont think hes a three hitter anymore either.
  23. I think e-patt could be a decent, cheap, centerfield option but as many have noted he probably wont be around come trade time. wasnt he the shortstop a Georgia Tech? Too bad he couldnt stick there. As far as the Matt Murton love, yeah hes been ok for us but his poor defense and alarming decrease in power make him nothing more than a bench guy. I gotta believe with his build that his swing can be tweaked/changed to generate more power. He puts the ball on the ground more than most which means hes turning over on the ball way too often. Until he figures it out hes no more than a AAAA guy.
  24. I never said I want Coco Crisp, instead I mentioned that it probably wont happen because we already have a glut of outfielders. Hill has only had one season in the mlb when he pitched well. He was crap from sept on last year and good from the august forward the year before. As per velocity he doesnt have much 89-91 what ever its got no movement so it might as well be 86. Hes got nothing to go with the curve ball which is why he throws it three or four times an at bat.
