  1. Thanks for the update. Valdes gives up a quick pair on a double by Conrad. I-Cubs down 2-0, top 1. Make that 3-0.
  2. Well, according to Hendry, they're not going to a 4-man rotation, though they haven't decided who is starting Wednesday. Still no clue why wasn't Hill instead, although I have the feeling they didn't want three lefties starting in a row.
  3. Guzman's value is as a starter. A high ceiling starting pitching prospect. A team isn't going to take a few IP from a long relief role as an indicator of how good he can be. I'd much, much rather do that to Williams than Guzman. WGN Radio confirmed it, sadly...
  4. Williams. Had. Two. Bad. Outings. Have fun in Iowa, Jerome. He had a bad outing in 1 IP the second game of the year out of the bullpen. He followed that up with 4 scoreless innings and then made a pretty good start against Pittsburgh. Why not just keep him in the bullpen? I'm just waiting for Pie to be called up to watch Jones strike out from the bench.
  5. If they're going to carry eight bullpen pitchers, one or two of them aren't going to see much action. Guzman needs to be pitching period. He hasn't hit a groove yet in his starts with Iowa so far and he simply should not be pulled out of a rotation. I probably miscounted, though. If they start Guzman the next time they need a 5th starter, he'll have missed one turn in the rotation and then start two or three days after he should have made that second start. Either way, I don't like it. If they felt they needed an extra arm to rot on the bench, just call up Ryu or someone else.
  6. ??? How do you know he won't be in the rotation? According to what was posted in the game thread. He'll be used in the bullpen and the Cubs will use a 4-man rotation thanks to the off-day on Thursday.

  8. I love moves that don't make sense. Not only does this likely mean that Guzman will miss two starts so he can sit in the bullpen, but it means that we'll have EIGHT bullpen pitchers. EIGHT. We have a short bench and yet he doesn't bring up a bat when they go to a temporary 4-man rotation?
  9. Thanks for the update. And sigh...
  10. Weird. Unless they want Guzman to pitch on normal rest and throw Monday, pushing Z and the rest of the rotation back a day, I don't see why it wouldn't be Hill. Angel isn't up to full speed yet. And if it was in place of Marshall's scheduled Tuesday start, that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, either.
  11. Pie strikes out looking on a slider off the outside corner. Iowa loses 10-5.
  12. I don't think Skiles wanted him to chuck a three right away.
  13. The point was that it's in an area that may hurt his pitching and could get further aggrevated. I don't see what this has to do with Wood's pain endurance or ability to stay healthy. Let's not forget that this isn't even an arm issue. I assume he threw today. According to Cubs.com, he'll throw to hitters on Monday or Tuesday.
  14. Coats with a 3-run bomb to right! Iowa down just 4 now.
  15. No better way to take the lead than a Chandler rebound dunk.
  16. Did he leave the game? No, he was fine. The shortstop's back foot caught Pie on the side of the head after getting the inning-ending force at second. Felix was on the ground and holding his head for a little bit, though.
  17. Over, under...it still hurt.
  18. Yeesh. Pie just got kicked in the head while sliding into second over a leaping shortstop.
  19. You're supposed to have the momentum after a double technical, Bulls.
  20. Now THAT'S an ejection!
  21. Pie strikes out on a 1-2 curve to strand a pair.

  24. Aside from a few bloop hits, has the offense looked any different than they did the last two games in LA? Have Rusch and Williams looked all that different from the start of spring training? Has the bullpen looked different in the last two games? So not only is it a really, really, really small sample size, but there also hasn't been much of a difference.
  25. Williams blows the pickoff and then throws a wild pitch...
