  1. Reaching base three times in three plate appearances doesn't matter if the guy can't make outs from both sides of the plate.
  2. The Cubs are being pretty careful, but I don't think this is a case of holding him back too much. I slightly pulled something in the same area that Wood reported tightness and I can certainly see how that might hurt his mechanics. And if he hurts that muscle because he tried to pitch through it, that could really set him back since he wouldn't be able to throw at all while it was healing up. Jehrico- They've been saying recently that Miller was about two weeks behind Wood. Since they needed to make a move on the 40-man roster and since Miller looked like he could be ready in late May, they probably felt it was the best move. Worst-case scenario is that Miller will be ready a week before he can be activated. If that's the case, he can just get in another rehab start.
  3. Man. Ramirez doesn't have much luck as of late.
  4. Honestly, if you want to be an uber-pessimist, that's fine. But you don't have to preach it like the gospel. We can all see what is going on, and don't need people exacerbating our existing frustration. If you want to vent, that's fine. But the "I told you so" BS is really annoying. Sorry to have annoyed you. I will cut the "I told you so" B.S. immediately. It *definitely* seems like some people on this board won't accept any criticism of the Cubs whatsoever no matter what happens. Not singling anyone out----just seems that way. And that's fine too. But there needs to be some balance to the discussion when catastrophies like Wood & Prior or Lee happen. These are crushing blows. CRUSHING. Some like to ignore them and move on. I don't. And I don't see how either view should be attacked. Seems like people who try to say "things are not good" around here get attacked and labeled. I think that's completely unfair, especially in our current situation. It's a shame that Wood is going to join the long list of pitchers who had their careers cut short by being delayed a week with tightness below the armpit.
  5. I haven't been listening, but I'd imagine so. They're in a stretch of 20 straight days without a day off to start the season. After a day off on Wednesday, they'll play 21 games in 20 straight days without a day off. Not many off days in the minors. Especially at AAA, apparently.
  6. According to Gameday, Iowa started the top of the 6th with three walks by Fontenot, Deardorff, and Sing, but Fontenot ended up falling off the face of the earth (the log shows him getting thrown out at third, though). The I-Cubs failed to take advantage of another great scoring opportunity. Ryu is probably done after 103 pitches. 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K. Pinto finished with 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K Iowa returns to Des Moines tomorrow to start a nice homestand, by the way. All of the I-Cubs' home games on carried on MiLB.tv and are free for the rest of the month.
  7. The girl made sure order was restored. Thank goodness it didn't go another round.
  8. Haha. And that was just the best boxing commentary I've ever heard.
  9. For what? For Wood, if his arm hurts. No more setbacks. I don't know if that or something else would help him, I just want him to keep pitching. This is no excuse to push things back. Z gets these things all the time and doesn't even come out of the game sometimes, let alone miss time. This isn't even a shoulder issue. It's also not much of an arm issue, although the article was a little vague. For what? I guess so he can throw a few more simu-towel-games before having another surgery. Like most pitchers, I don't believe Wood does the towel drill. I don't recall too many pitchers having surgery in the under arm area before.
  10. For what?
  11. According to Cubs.com, Prior threw 25 pitches to hitters today and will throw a session on Sunday. Wood, however, stopped his warmup session and didn't throw a simulated game yesterday because of some tightness under his arm. He's scheduled to throw another simulated game but that will depend on how he feels when he throws tomorrow. Of course, this means that we probably can't expect to see him back until mid-May now.
  12. They won't need a fresh bullpen with Rusch going tomorrow.
  13. No Pie in the lineup tonight for Iowa.
  14. What's with the camera angles in this stadium? They're pretty bad.
  15. Nope: http://espn-att.starwave.com/photo/2006/0417/loveboat_275.jpg Of course, they're independent, but still.
  16. The Fire will be hosting Chelsea vs. the MLS All Stars out in Bridgeview this summer.
  17. Wells is scheduled to go tomorrow, according to a Lookouts release: Of course, that list doesn't give me much confidence in its accuracy.
  18. Shipman gives up a 2-out, 2-run game-winning double. Iowa loses 6-5.
  19. The paid attendance was only 993 tonight for the Diamond Jaxx. :(
  20. Sad but very true. Couldn't a bad sprain actually be worse than a break? That was that case with Pie last year. Hopefully there wasn't any other damage than just the fractures.
  21. 0-2 RBI bloop single for Pie makes it 5-2 Iowa in the 7th. He's 2-4 on the day with an RBI and run scored.
  22. Nice. Hopefully that's the start of a nice run for him. Montanez drives in a pair of unearned runs with two outs. Jaxx up 2-1. Hill gives up a 1-out RBI double. 'Topes tie it up at 1-1. 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 62 pitches
  23. The Iowa announcers? They probably would've said he got called up. Unless, of course, they said that earlier. Hill: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 29 pitches EPatt is 2-2 but with a CS and Hoffpauir is 1-1 so far with a walk. The Jaxx trail 1-0 after 4. They just said Restovich wasn't with the team and he was likely getting the callup tommorow. Well there's our answer. Good catch. Hill: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 41 pitches
