  1. "Our pitchers walked 9 Braves today. Maybe next time they'll swing away like real men."
  2. It gets better, folks. Buck and McCarver are calling the game tomorrow. And even better for me, as I don't think I'll be watching it.
  3. There's already a thread on Montanez here: Premium Non-Premium
  4. Please post replies in the game thread.
  5. How many errors can you fit into a single play, Neifi?
  6. That was a pretty impressive swing by Francoeur. You rarely see someone wait back on a pitch from Z like that.
  7. Two is the plan. He'll throw a side session at Wrigley on Saturday, so I'm guessing the exact day won't be determined until late Saturday or Sunday.
  8. According to Cubs.com, Wood threw a side on Thursday and "passed the test," but will be pushed back to Monday. Sunday's starter is still TBD. In addition, Prior will make his first rehab start with Peoria (at home) on either Monday or Tuesday.
  9. Not sure what kind of money is at stake in ratings, but yeesh:
  10. There's no real reason not to appeal.
  11. Pie with his 3rd walk of the night. He only saw 1 strike in those 3 PAs.
  12. Hill: 5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 2 SB, HBP, 110 pitches - 70 strikes Pie is 0-2 with a K but scored twice after reaching on two walks. McGehee hit his 3rd HR of the year.
  13. Of course, 72.8% of those hits are singles. Just for the sake of comparison, Manny Ramirez, who is 2 years older and has 1971 hits, has hit only 55.4% singles.
  14. Let it be known that in 26 ABs this season against lefties, Restovich has a 1.203 OPS.
  15. Hill is getting hurt early. 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K, HBP, 2 SB, 54 pitches
  16. I don't like hearing "Pie" and "awkward slide" in the same sentence, but he obviously did pretty well after that and did play last night. I'm not sure what day it was, but I do know for a fact that it was a day game when the incident took place. So if Tuesday was a night game, it couldn't have been then. I assumed it was a night game, but it was Tuesday. Pie walked on 4 pitches to leadoff the first (Coats followed with a full count walk, which is nice to see) and scored on an RBI single by Restovich. Hill with a HBP, SB, and single allowed in the first, but got out of it thanks to a FC out at the plate.
  17. comcast sports net ++ , i think i saw that last year WCIU, ect BS I see WGN and WCIU listed as carrying games, and CSN, and then there's CSN+ in addition, usually when there's another game on. So that's just CLTV? I'm guessing the only reason they refer to it as CSN+ is because they may go to the game on CSN if their other programming is delayed (namely the White Sox are in a rain delay). That and that it's CSN's production and camera equipment.
  18. There are no three better words to sum up the problems with this organization than "Neifi saved us."
  19. That just makes it even sadder. It would be a nice (really small) step if they actually (privately) admit that they made a mistake with Murton.
  20. According to the game log, he was forced at second in the third inning. It does seem a little suspect, but it's hard to tell.
  21. no, but setting record attendance #'s with a 70 win team isn't incentive to go out of their way to win either. Until the ticket money drys up, we get token effort I don't think they're naive enough to think that near-capacity attendance will continue. And, in fact, it hasn't this season. They're only averaging 95.4% of capacity so far. They've only been over 3 million for two seasons and will be again this year only because of the increased capacity. They didn't even break 2.7 in 2002. There isn't much of a reason to believe that attendance won't suffer if this keeps up. If that happens, the Cubs will be losing a significant amount of potential revenue.
  22. Sullivan's Q&A may have been the most uninformative and mind-numbing waste of time in sports journalism history. It's amazing that they continue it.
  23. About Tuesday (?) night's game: I don't like hearing "Pie" and "awkward slide" in the same sentence, but he obviously did pretty well after that and did play last night.
  24. If Jim were to stress stats, I'd imagine the first one they'd look at is "clutchness." Hendry strikes me as a GM who would rather take Jeter over A-Rod because of Derek's fewer walks and greater clutchness.
  25. Not sure, but one of my friends that listens to the show said that he has snapped lately and has called for some changes. Should be interesting...with no game on tonight, I'll definitely be listening. Wow. If Kaplan has called for some changes with Hendry and Dusty in charge, you know something's wrong. I haven't listened to them in about two years, but maybe I'll tune in tonight.
