  1. Then Rotschild doesn't even know his own players. He said nothing was wrong with him structurally or physically. Perhaps he meant right now or that there isn't a reason they know of why this came up, but there was still something wrong.
  2. Having an owner who really wants to win, noticing Hendry, MacPhail (F A I L), and Dusty are dumb. Would fire them all and get people who knew what they are doing (along with wanting to win). MacPhail doesn't want to win. To sum up. If EVERYBODY in the "higher-ups" wanted to win. Things would change, RIGHT NOW. apparently, all steinbrenner has ever done is provide money. Steinbrenner is a great example of someone who spends a ton of money and has the desire to win but doesn't know how to go about doing it. The desire to win, which everyone working in baseball has, means nothing if you don't have the know-how. The Cubs want to win, they just have no idea how to actually do it.
  3. Jones denied the biting incident, according to cubs.com, but who cares. It's funny either way.
  4. There's a difference between there not being anything structurally wrong and there not being anything physically wrong. The MRI showed that there was something wrong.
  5. I think it's all across the board on the blame for this mess of a team. Lots of people to blame, but the buck stops w/ the trib. they make the big decisions. No they don't. That's the whole point. They don't want to be making the baseball decisions because they're not baseball people. As has been previously stated, this really isn't anything new. I'd imagine Hendry has been waiting a while to re-sign Baker. They hired the architect of this all, MacPhail. I don't see why this is so difficult to grasp... So they don't make the big decisions, then. Having a strong desire to win doesn't mean much. Dusty and Hendry want to win but they have no idea how to do it. Having an owner who's a big fan wouldn't help if they don't go about it in the right way.

  7. Wouldn't the Tribune Co. have a higher profit if the Cubs weren't spending that much money on Dusty?
  8. Yeah, Wood will start tomorrow. He didn't pitch on the side, though. Other news from Cubs.com: -Miller threw 43 pitches today to rookies in Mesa and everything went well. -Prior threw 45 pitches on the side and will pitch to rookies on Wednesday. He'll likely have a third outing in Mesa before going on a rehab assignment.
  9. When players compare themselves to other players, it's not in terms of what they expect to produce on the big league level. Rather, it's how they approach things on the field. Hill talked elsewhere about his pitches, specifically his 12-6, and compared what he did on the mound to other pitchers. I never had the pleasure of watching Koufax, but I believe he threw mostly (if not exclusively) his curveball and his fastball. And like Koufax, Hill was a strikeout pitcher. Hill obviously doesn't have his fastball, but especially in the minors, those were the two pitches he relied on. It's a fair comparisson if you're letting people know how you go about pitching. Not many people would be crazy enough to actually say that they're the next Sandy Koufax, and that includes Hill.
  10. Basically not much. His suspension is pretty bogus, although I don't think they'll drop it entirely.
  11. So if I may summarize... Reports of additional soreness after his start on Thursday and the possibility that they may give him additional time to rest can lead us to conclude one or more of the following: a) he's going on the DL b) his season is over c) his career is over d) he's a wimp e) he only wants to collect his paycheck and doesn't mind if he never pitches again Seems logical to me.
  12. 4 games/$2000. He also didn't appeal.
  13. He didn't say he was going to perform like Koufax and Zito. He said that his approach on the mound and his pitches were similar. I also doubt Hill saying that had anything to do with his demotion. I'm sick of Ozzie going on and on about teams other than his own. If he wants to respond, fine, but my goodness the guy is annoying.
  14. Looks like Von Joshua was ejected as a result of McGehee being called out on strikes. After the strikeout, though, Fontenot walked, Augie singled, Soto walked, Walrond struck out, and Pie was HBP to drive in a run and tie it up.
  15. That's 100% correct, but I'm taking it a step further based on everything Hill has said and done since he came up. It's like a cook showing up for his first day at work and saying, "Wait till you all see me work, I'm [deleted] Chef Boyardee" Then everybody who eats the food you made vomits uncontrollably until they die of dehydration. Then after that happens, you slam an experienced cook for cooking a steak on both sides instead of just throwing it on for awhile and then taking it off without even flipping it. That's how Hill's career has went so far. Please watch the language.
  16. Apparently it wasn't anything new, just a bogus teaser. viewtopic.php?t=31986
  17. Every pitcher is sore after starting.
  18. That makes two of us. The only thing is, we can just sign Lee and not even have to trade pie. Or trade Pie and Marshall for Cabrera and still sign Lee. I think Lee will be too expensive for the Trib's blood and they'll turn to a toolsy player like Soriano, who's attitude may drop his price some. Lee isn't coming off a great 2005. It's probably too early to conclude that Soriano would make significantly less than than Carlos Lee in the open market.
  19. that would have been a very bold move, but you're probably right. it would have been a better option than relying on the kids. of course, there could be long-term consequences. prior could still be really good. he probably needs to leave the cubs before that happens tho. the baseball gods won't allow him to be a successful cub. :( How would trading Prior for a slightly above average starter make this team any good? i agree that if prior was traded for tejada and they signed a pitcher (millwood), they'd be well over .500. And that's what, an extra $13+ million?
  20. sure, but then you run the chance of him really tearing something up. Yeah, I know. I just don't care. Wood's age, salary and impending free agency all make me not give a crap what could possibly happen to him long term. Other teams do it with their pitchers all the time. It isn't inhuman. You can't be serious.... Uh.....yeah I am. I see other teams shooting their players up all the time to get them back out there. If the Cubs don't want to do that with their young players, I'm fine with that, but at some point they should graduate to being treated like most if not all other major league pitchers when it comes to this stuff. Cortisone shots are not common. And its longterm effects can be rather serious, especially for a pitcher.

  22. He said he was more sore than usual (right spots), but apparently it's not clearing up in normal time. It's not like his shoulder is about to blow up.
  23. Yeah, he said he felt like he threw about 8 innings on Thursday and was a little more sore than he usually would be. If they push him back, though, does that mean Rusch would start Tuesday?
