  1. Seriously, does he even pay attention? On the pregame show today, he said that there's always a guy who goes 0-7 in a game that long.
  2. Kudos to him. That's pretty impressive stupidity.
  3. You'd think all sports writers would be familiar with what a strain is by now. Guess not.
  4. McGehee lined out to second with the tying run on 3rd to end the game. A few batters earlier, Coats was ejected after arguing about a 3-2 pitch that was called a strike. Quade was also tossed. Lightenberg gave up a 3 runs (1 earned) and picked up the BS and loss. I-Cubs lose 6-5.
  5. He was just as good as stealing bases with the Cubs. He didn't get on base very much though. He went through a lot of hitting coaches here, so there is more to it than just different coaching. He primarily worked with Clines in terms of trying to convert his swing to slap the ball around. He worked with others for bunting and fielding, but Clines was his primary hitting coach last season. And before that he was doing a pretty decent job at the plate. I think there's a pretty clear link between the coaching staff and Corey's struggles last year. I'm just glad that Elia knew what the Cubs did wrong (and made a nice little dig at them in the process).
  6. Pie will likely finish 3-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a K.
  7. Yeah, there's tearing involved in a moderate strain. But the difference is that it's not fully "torn."
  8. Come again? How can Taylor and Teasley combine for 9 scoreless innings if Kane County was leading 1-0 in the 6th? It was the game resumed from yesterday. Veal gave up a run in two innings.
  9. Paul Sullivan's take: And here's how Kent McDill of the Daily Herald put it: Funny, there's no mention of Zambrano's anger being directed at Dusty... Perhaps that's because Z only talked about his performance and not about Dusty pulling him (other than to respond to a question by saying it was his decision). Not a first for Sullivan, though.
  10. According to DaytonaCubs.com, Craig, Fox, and Gallagher will all be playing for the East. Congrats to them. Unfortunately, Fuld wasn't selected.
  11. Seriously, what's his deal? He's allowed 15 earned runs this season but 12 unearned. And with that K/BB, his ERA isn't likely to stay that low for much longer.
  12. I still don't know what evidence fans have/can have for calling his problems psychological. Elia speaks:
  13. Lincecum, as well. My gut says they'd go with him over Lincoln.
  14. Now Pierre can be thrown out by the second baseman even quicker. I'm sure the pitchers are ecstatic, too.
  15. Sounds like some of that grass didn't go to waste, too.
  16. SMALL? It was a smidge over a half season. He produced that for 5 months in 2004 too - while coming back quicker than anticipated from an injury. And whether or not Corey has a similar avg/obp to Pierre, he'll be well ahead of Juan in the slugging department. And as Tim pointed out, all while being much cheaper than Juan and not costing the Cubs three solid young pitchers. Given the same coaches were here, what makes you think any adjustments would be made with him and he'd be performing like he is away from Chicago? I'm not certain the coaches had a lot to do with him. They may not have helped much, but I don't think they were the sole reason for his disappointing time in Chicago. Corey was always an overaggressive hitter with poor discipline--- that's the Cubs philosophy even in the minor league system, so for him, being in the Cub organization should have been heaven. I still think he was rushed through the system, though. From spring training 2005, though, it was about trying to sacrifice power for the sake of putting the ball in play. That's what Hendry was looking for in a center fielder/leadoff hitter.
  17. It's pretty hard to tell what kind of an effect that had and how he responded to it. It certainly didn't help, but I don't know if it was a significant contributor.
