  1. I don't know if he was rushed back. They expected his arm strength to get better more quickly than it has, but I don't think that was an unrealistic expectation. Plus, I don't think there's been any harm done to his shoulder. In retrospect, it would have been better to bring him along more slowly, but it's probably not a big deal. In the end, the timeline probably wouldn't have been that different (although he probably would've performed better with the Cubs, but it's not like they're in the middle of a race right now).
  2. Wow, you messed up THE DON day? I'm disappointed.
  3. I had to turn back to ESPN2 for the reasoning. Apparently it was "passive" offsides.
  4. Wow those are some great chances.
  5. Agreed, as well. Wow, that ball looked over. I think they got robbed. And congrats to T+T. Only saw the end, but that was big.
  6. Atlee with 2 hits and a strikeout in his first inning with Iowa of the season.
  7. How the heck do you let your closer go a week without pitching?
  8. Some people make those kinds of sacrifices... Fontenot just hit his 4th HR of the year. Restovich also has an RBI double and Coats has an RBI single. I-Cubs up 3-1 in the 4th.
  9. It's also on Univision (30th minute), which is probably better.
  10. Jerome Williams gets the start for Iowa. Pie is batting 2nd.
  11. It's not about him feeling worse. It's about him not being able to start every 5 days right now and throw enough innings each start. With the way it was going now, he's needed an extra day or two between starts and Dusty has had to make sure that he had long relief ready for when he did start. You can't do that with a big league team. He just needs to work through the extra stiffness and get to the point where he can go every five days.
  12. What has Wood done that he deserves to be booed? Because Wood told the Cubs to put him on the DL just so he could collect money without pitching and hurt the value of the contract he'll receive this offseason. That and he's intentionally trying to make his arm a little more sore after he starts just out of spite to Cubs fans.
  13. Yeah, the plan isn't even to shut him down:
  14. Fill the seats? Not only are they not selling out, but how many fans out there would actually buy a ticket because of a good draft? 0?
  15. That wasn't even that close at first.
  16. A minor league deal wouldn't be fair. I missed Rothschild on the pregame, but have their plans for Wood been discussed at all? Are they shutting him down or will he be pitching when he can? If Wood can't go every 5th day right now he can't be on the team, but that doesn't mean he can't pitch. It'll take longer than they would've liked for him to work through this, but I don't think he reinjured anything. And Wood out of the bullpen wouldn't really do any good for anyone. The Cubs don't have a need for that and it wouldn't help Wood's career.
  17. That is painful just to look at.
  18. Two off the goal in about five minutes for Poland. At least the end to this one was entertaining.
  19. Sounds good, Ron. It seems like his arm strength is building up a little slower than they would have liked, but it's getting there. But I was especially glad to hear his curve ball improving over the course of the game last night.
  20. Can't say I blame the Poland fans for looking stunned.
  21. Nic Jackson hit his first of the year for West Tenn (a solo shot) in the bottom of the first. It also extends his hit streak to 11.
  22. He hasn't been picked up yet. Apparently the Red Sox released mostly because of his loss of velocity.
  23. Not sure if this was already posted, but not only is Jeremy Papelbon the brother of Jonathan Papelbon, but Jeremy's twin brother Joshua was drafted in the 48th round by Boston.
  24. I know that's what the staff at Baseball America suspects, but that might not be the case. Samardzija wasn't guaranteed to be there in the 5th round. It's possible they're just very high on Colvin. No, we don't know for certain. Personally, though, it's enough for me to make that jump. Not that I'm terribly familiar with Wilken, but Colvin just doesn't make sense to me otherwise.
  25. They'll be out of a 5th round pick, but the decision also cost them an overdraft with their 1st round pick. Not much else to add. I've seen those scouting reports and it just seems like there's too much weighted against this pick for my liking. When you combine his future decision about football, possibly injuries that may result from football, his poor overall college stats (especially his K/BB rates) when he has pitched, his age, etc., making up your mind to pick Samardzija and then overdrafting Colvin as a result just doesn't seem worth it to me. And he probably wouldn't be on the fast track to the majors even if he decided to quit football starting in 2007. Someone like Drabek would've seemed like a better risk overall at 13 than Colvin and Samardzija.
