  1. He's being fired but will coach in the bowl game, apparently. Isn't Wanny doing the same in Pittsburgh? Wannstedt technically resigned, though, and is staying with the athletic department. Maryland wanted Friedgen to resign, but he wouldn't.

  3. Consensus is that it's a pretty great stadium. Opposite end of the spectrum from having to play in the dome for the Gophers. great in September and October, maybe. Seems completely inadequate in cold weather That's kind of like saying they botched Madison Square Garden because it's not suited for international soccer competitions. Ecept not at all. It's a football field in Minnesota not designed for weather you can easily get in college football season. And there was talk of the Vikings sharing it at one point. Just makes no sense. There has been absolutely nothing to suggest that the Minneapolis weather will ever create such problems on the field during the college football season. Minneapolis Novembers are too warm for that and although sub-freezing weather certainly occurs, just like it does at lots of places, it doesn't happen for such an extended period of time during the college football season to create these conditions.

Seems completely inadequate in cold weather That's kind of like saying they botched Madison Square Garden because it's not suited for international soccer competitions. Or it's not like that at all considering it's an outdoor football stadium in freaking Minnesota. It gets cold up there pretty early. I was up there at the end of October and was pretty well bundled up when I went running and it got much colder a couple weeks after that when the Gophers were still playing. There's no reason for them not to have made some kind of plans to be prepared for cold or snowy weather. It's perfectly suited for cold weather through the college football season. Do you really expect Minnesota to spend more money because some day the MetroDome's roof might collapse in December and the Vikings will have to play there? It's a very nice college football stadium that works really well for college football. It's not like they were vying for a Super Bowl.

Seems completely inadequate in cold weather yea because they designed it for late January Is it January? Does it never get below freezing during college football season in Minneapolis? High of 27 and low of 11 when Minnesota hosted the season finale on late afternoon Thanksgiving Saturday. No problems with the field at all. And the average high doesn't drop to freezing until the last day of November up there.

  8. Harping on not kicking it out of bound while completely ignoring the fact that it turned out as well as it could have short of it actually going out of bounds. They had what, 6 blue jerseys surrounding him? They let him go straight up the middle. Awful, awful coverage.
  9. I'm glad they're enforcing the potential secondary violation suspension so quickly.
  10. The media has been asking them questions about it all week, so of course they're going to provide a few quotes. It's like any other non-issue. You can't equate a few quotes when reporters are trying to write a specific story with how players truly feel about it or how it's actually going to affect their performance.
  11. Soldier Field got stuck with a first round date on June 12th, not even the semifinals or quarterfinals.
  12. Likely secondary recruiting violations at Arkansas. Pretty stupid. The article also references the new rule that coaches can be suspended by the NCAA for secondary recruiting violations. I can't wait to see that happen.
  13. And that was after barely taking any shots in the 1st half. He opted to pad his assist total instead. I lost track of his dunk total. I think he's somewhere around 8 in 6 games this season. Just need to work on that FT shooting. Though the best thing about last night may be Drew Crawford's new haircut.
  14. Someone has to say it... Just a small part of the overall team salary, though. I prefer players aren't the only ones to decide on Auburn despite getting offered more money elsewhere.
  15. $1.3 million for a coordinator is ridiculous. He's making more than many/most head coaches.
  16. What's going on at Iowa? Wegher was granted his release last week, now Jewel Hampton made a "former Hawkeye" statement on his Facebook page that may or may not have been referring to himself. And there are lots of rumors about potential positive drug tests for other players. Other rumors include both Hampton and Adam Robinson being kicked off the team for refusing drug tests. McNutt's name is also being tossed around.
  17. Malzahn has decided not to accept the Vanderbilt job per ESPN's Chris Low.
  18. I think it's dumb to have JoePa's name on the trophy when A) He's still alive and still an active Big 10 coach, and B) He spent the large majority of his career coaching outside the Big 10, and won all his championships before joining the conference. It is the Stagg-Paterno championship. Paterno coached outside the big 10 most of the time and Stagg's team hasn't been in the big 10 in like a century. This is like the everybody gets a trophy syndrome times two with everybody gets a trophy named after them. Delany made it pretty clear that they were honoring the history of the Big Ten and the Big Ten institutions. Stagg coached in the Big Ten for over 40 years and was instrumental in the development of the conference and the game. Paterno coached at Penn State, a current Big Ten school, for over 40 years, as well. That trophy makes quite a lot of sense. Both are very, very deserving. Probably more so than any other coach, includes Hayes and Schembechler.
  19. Still not a big fan of the division names, but they make a lot more sense considering the trophies they've announced.
  20. "Legends" is okay and I'm glad Northwestern is in that one. But they couldn't do any better than "Leaders?"
  21. Don't you get it? The logo can say B10 or BIG or BIGTEN or B10TEN Yeah, but I thought they do something clever where it would show a 12 in there somehow. That would just set them up to have to spend a lot more money in the future if there's more realignment/expansion. I believe Delany said a while ago that they wouldn't try and fit in "12."
  22. I think they did a pretty decent job on the new logos, especially the B1G (both "BIG" and "B10") logo. Here's the main logo: http://twitpic.com/3fmd0f Apparently new trophies are being announced today, as well.
  23. The BTN will carry the announcement of the Big Ten division names, new logo, and some other stuff at 11 AM CT today.
  24. Al Golden is leaving Temple and taking the job at Miami, though the deal hasn't been finalized.
  25. No not really. Yes because giving up 5-8 yards consistently to good teams is a good idea. Cover 2 is reliance on luck when you cannot get a consistent pressure from your front four. Everyone knew coming into this game that Welker and Woodhead would be getting a ton of yards on the underneath crap. The defense gave up 2 pretty brutal drives for 14 points. Outside of that, they gave up essentially nothing. The 1st drive was a 3 and out, they gave up 18 yards on the 4th drive resulting in a FG, and gave up 2 yards on the 5th drive, also resulting in a FG.
