  2. I was thinking that too when he said it.
  3. Nevin is scary out there. At least on that catch.
  4. Dan Jiggetts has just conducted a phone interview with John Rocker in regards to the Ozzie Guillen situation. Rocker continues to defend Guillen and explains that if you break it down it is essentially the same as "two kids calling each other names". The last question Jiggetts asked was,"how do repsond when people call you racist or homophobic?" He responded by saying that let them think what they want. But, wsa quick to add that "I'm dating a black girl". The way he threw it in there just seemed so contrived. If you're in the Chicago area and want to watch the replay it is on at 11:00 pm cst.
  5. How so? What did they do or say?
  6. it just bothers me because i've seen so many people do it (derek, derrick, derreck). I don't get what's so hard about spelling a name correctly. If it was Mientkiewicz or something, fine. But Derrek? Ugh. Just a pet peeve. It's not spelled correctly so often because it was poorly spelled by his parents. Blame them. Derek is how you spell Derek in America. If you want to spell it differently, expect mistakes. How about Chone (Shawn/Sean) Figgins???
  7. Yes. No matter how you slice it drafting Colvin was pretty much a waste. Wow. I understand we reached for him, but give the kid a couple years before you call him a "waste." Agreed. He was STILL considered a 1st rd guy. So, if for nothing else, he went about 15 picks before he should have gone. But Tyler Colvin, will be a very good player for the Cubs. Not even close. Who told you this? He was ranked 170th by BA, well outside the first few rounds. Here, read this: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5713564 Or this: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060607cubsdraftsep,1,2979325.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines This was a reach of the most extreme variety. There can't even be an argument about this. Seriously man, this pick just shows what a complete mess the Cubs are as a franchise. They're treading water in a sea of poor decisions and bad information. During the Draft-Day Blog or one of their articles, BA mentioned that Colvin was shooting up the charts and that atleast one other team besides the Cubs (the White Sox supposedly) thought Colvin was a 1st rounder. Doesn't Tim Wilken have a good track record? And if that is the case, should this pick be written off?
  8. No, he has 1,299 career K's. Sadly, the 401-K is probably the only "K" that Kerry will see at least for this year.
  9. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14901686.htm Well, time to make a poster of the pics of him with his girls in Philly I guess... :-k Baltimore....not correcting you just to correct you, but rather to let you know just in case it is part of the signage.
  10. Vance, AJ might be reading NSBB and directing this statement at you!!!! http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14901686.htm
  11. doesn't really explain the worst offense in baseball, however. Let's see, Marshall Marmol (3 games) Guzman (1 game?) Ryu (not even 1 game) Can't think of any more. Not quite exactly 6 or 7 dustybag. And how many games did you give Rusch? You didn't use the Kids ENOUGH dumby!! Also Hill
  12. If you're close enough to the Sox dugout, you might be able to encourage Ozzie to direct a curse laden tirade your way.
  13. You think they fire him before the White Sox series? With no offday in between? That'd be awesome. Maybe they'll fire him mid-game. Right in the middle of the field preferably. Like when he is out making a pitching change. Hendry should walk out to the mound, take dusty's hat off, and make him walk out of the park. Through the stands so everyone can throw their beer on him and laugh at him. Right when Dusty is about to exercise a double switch.
  14. Is what I highlighted a reference to this past draft?
  15. Kelly Leek did it!
  16. Wasn't this contract turned down for a less intricate contract which happens to be less lucrative contract? I believe you are correct but I don't know the details of Samardzija's contract. From what I understand it is pretty minimal. Here it is.... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0606250354jun25,1,5364759.story?ctrack=1&cset=true " Samardzija should get about eight starts for the Cubs' farm team before returning to South Bend, Ind., for football practice the first week of August. He will get a $250,000 signing bonus, which is about normal for a fifth-round draft pick. Baseball America reported Samardzija and the Cubs had agreed to a $7.25 million bonus spread over five years, with the bulk of the money backloaded toward the end of the contract. But the complicated deal never was completed, and the Cubs and Samardzija's agent apparently opted for a simpler contract at less money and years."
  17. Wasn't this contract turned down for a less intricate contract which happens to be less lucrative contract? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0606250354jun25,1,5364759.story?ctrack=1&cset=true The sad fact is that World Series winner still has less of a fan base than a lowly team teetering on last place. Wait a sec! I thought prior to stating this, he said the interest and allegiance to the Cubs is waning and starting to migrate to the south side. I'm confused. So are they Cubs fans attending games at Wrigley while fighting the urge to become Sox fans?
  18. I remember the Mets a couple of years ago were a terrible team with a close to 100 million dollar payroll... It's like 1969 all over again!
  19. From a financial standpoint, is this the worst team ever assembled in MLB?
  20. So the Cubs still have a chance! But, then again what is the stat in regards to the Cubs losing in the eighth inning.
  21. I don't even want this team to come home. I want them to just stay on the road. I don't want to see a packed Wrigley Field and this horrendous team on the field. Blech.
  22. I saw this discussed briefly in another thread. This debate never really flourished in that thread so I was curious to see what other posters here thought.................... So you're building your team and you have a choice between two 28 year old Chicago third basemen. Granted Joe Crede is having an excellent year with a contending team and Aramis Ramirez is struggling with a not so good ball club. But, there is no reason to think that Ramirez will not turn it around even if it isn't necessarily this season. So who would be your third baseman?
  23. Tigers have just beaten the Cardinals 4-1 to complete the sweep.
