  1. Could Blanco break Joe DiMaggio's hit streak. He is getting hits everyday. I've seen it all now.
  2. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad Jacque homered, but it just amazes me. One would think at some point the Cubs might hit one with at least one runner on base.
  3. It's more in North Mississippi than South. Probably about 5 hours from the Gulf. Ya, our women are pretty cute in this state...at least the ones with all their teeth and a daddy who will spend money on them :-). Ronald Reagan once had a quote where he said that the prettiest girls in the Union hail from Mississippi. ...I have a tough time keeping them though...but maybe it's me, not them. Are these girls you know? Or a just random google image search for "Ole Miss" girls? I did a google image search of "Ole Miss" to see what came up on the first page. Check out the second pic in the top row of the first page if you do the search.
  4. Yeah, I remember that a comment was made that he liked the idea that Chicago because living there made it easily accesible to his Indiana home.
  5. Too easy. Plus, it is not too often you see an entire organization clean house unless maybe there is ownership change. In this scenario there is no change of ownership since it appears that the Tribune Co. will not be selling.
  6. The one thing the Cubs are good at is finding pitching prowess. Now maintaining healthy arms is a different story, but they are strong when it comes to recognizing pitching talent. Granted you may not see those pitchers in Cub uniforms down the road. Just ask the Marlins in a couple years. They might be able to attest to this point.
  7. These are some of their top prospects and you can't forget number one pick in the draft, Josh Hamilton. I had no idea Dukes had behavior issues. Here's something I found about Elijah Dukes: "Dukes was a multi-sport star in high school, and had a signed scholarship with NC State to play linebacker. However the Rays were able to persuade him to play on the diamond after taking him with the 74th overall pick in the '02 draft. Dukes actually slid quite a bit because of his football scholarship, but also because of some off-the-field issues. He has been arrested for assault, has taken anger management courses the last two years, and has had his share of ejections and arguments on the field. 8. I'm not a Cubs historian, which is why I put the question mark. I am aware of the basics as a fan of baseball history, but wasn't aware they went to the playoffs in '89. Sorry, as a Cub fan I we need to include all years. I jumped the gun by overlooking the question mark. If the Cubs would have defeated the Giants in 1989 to make it to the World Series, there would have been no live televised earthquake.
  9. 1989 doesn't count? For the sake of argument, the Red Sox World Series appearances where they inevitably lost seemed to be discounted even by Red Sox fans themselves. It was about winning the whole enchilada.
  10. I just got sick to my stomach listening to Mike North go on about why AJ should be considered the AL MVP. I don't want to completely derail thread, but yesterday A.J. Pyrzinski was on the local FOX sports show here in Chicago, The Final Word. He is a guest on the show every Sunday. And yesterday he did the show from his home in Lincoln Park. It seems these south side players live on the north side. Some also live in the southwest suburbs, but I know that Konerko, Pyrzinski andalthough he is gone Rowand are northsiders.
  11. Keep in mind they wouldn't even want DLee or Z considering their whole objective is getting rid of payroll and building their system with good, young affordable players. Otherwise they would just keep Cabrera for the remainder of the year unless they feel that they couldn't re sign him no matter how much they offer.
  12. Just spell it "Engines" in order to play it safe. No one will ever know.
  13. So if you could remove one of these men from the Cubs' organization who would you choose? I know that most people want all their heads to roll, but you only have the power to give one the axe. Note: In this hypothtical the Tribune Company retains ownership.
  14. Stop watching "Pepper Dennis".
  15. Phew......Dusty coming to save the day with the infamous double switch.
  16. Piven's new movie "Keeping Up With the Steins" about the competitive world of barmitzvahs. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j163/Niner74/CubsYamulke.jpg
  17. Did he use the B word or did I hear it wrong? WTH did that mean? That is just the line that his character in "Entourage" is known for saying. "Let's hug it out b*****"
  18. Santo tells Jeremy Piven, "I have to tell you...you have a funky windup."
  19. The Pirates are losing 5-1 in the 9th. They keeping hogging last place. I really think the Cubs have earned that spot or atleast some of it.
  20. You can't stop Blanco; you can only hope to contain him. Seriously, that ball must look like a grapefruit to him right now.
  21. Do the Cubs lead the league in solo shots? You would think occasionally a runner would be on base.
