Ozzie has already said that Thome will play some games at 1B at NL parks. Thome gets the start at first base tonight against the Pirates. -
We are getting guys signed fairly quickly IMO. With no 2/3/4 picks, the Cubs need to get what they can from the rest of the picks. Getting guys like Renshaw, Huseby, Andersen, Rundle, Samardzija, etc signed quickly and having them begin playing as soon as possible will help minimize the loss of those 3 early round picks. They are doing pretty good so far. We signed a couple of talented HS OFers that could help offset the loss of those picks in Rundle and Andersen. Even the Cubs recognize that they have a depleted minor league system especially in comparison forn years past. So they are making sure they get guys signed and signed quickly in order to re stock.

Exactly the same for me. I'm a bit of an Oakland fan as well since the Rockhounds are rather close, even though I've never been to a game. I've got a friend who got Zito's auto when he was pitching there as well as several others. If it weren't for the price of gas (and the fact that I don't have a vehicle that'd get me there) I wouldn't mind making to 3-3 1/2 trip every once in awhile. We have the Kane County Cougars (Single A of Oakland) here in the Chicago area. So that is part of the reason. Some good players have played there between the A's farmhands and when it was affliated with the Marlins....................Scott Podsednik, Dontrelle Willis, Josh Beckett, Ryan Dempster, Miguel Cabrera, Joe Blanton, and Huston Street t name a few. But, I just read about them. I've never even gone. I figure why go to a good game that can be economical on the wallet when I can spend an arm and a leg a Wrigley and watch a dismal team.

Why did Minnesota put him on waivers? Did he just happen to blossom in Boston? I don't really remember him, but then again I rarely paid much attention to the Twins.
