  1. I think it show that sales of those jerseys have floundered. I'm sure they evaluate which player's jersey sell which do not sell. Fans don't want to drop their money on a player they feel might not be with the team very much longer. So I think it is somewhat of a telling tale that the fans don't have faith in them and their effectiveness as Cub pitchers.
  2. Ha....If I recall Aardsma was also clocked at 104 at Wrigley(I think). They throw hard, but I believe those guns need to be better calibrated.
  3. That is why if you're Cedeno keep playing all out, continue to prove yourself and when the time comes get out of Dodge.
  4. Wow....you would think they might be able to come back at least one time.
  5. That is a big "gallon" of milk in right field. Does milk really need to be advertised? Does anyone look for a particular brand when buying milk?
  6. That is not a brain cramp. With the Cubs, that is a way of life. And he was out by 10+ feet He definitely wasn't out by ten feet, but there is no way he should have been stealing there. I wonder if Dusty called that, or if he just decided to take it upon himself to waste a hit. Based on Dusty's reaction....I'll say that was on Speier or Bynim himself.

  8. A love the shot of Neifi putting his spikes on. So predictable.
  9. Jim Hendry is on the phone looking for another second baseman.
  10. 1. If you want bars that are close to Wrigley, I heartily endorse the Goose Island Brewery. It's right on Clark, maybe two doors down from Wrigley. Depending on the type of crowd you're looking for, I would avoid the Cubbie Bear at all costs. It's an over-priced meatmarket that will be packed to the gills that weekend. For something more low-key, I would recommend Guthries on Addison (three blocks west of Wrigley) or any number of bars on Southport St. (five blocks west from Wrigley). 2. Since you're staying that the Lincoln Park Days Inn, I would keep your car with the valet. That way you don't have to deal with all the drivers trying to get to either the Kennedy or Lake Shore Drive. 3. Beware the beds of the Days Inn. I stayed there one night (yes, I live in Chicago. . . but it was for a good cause :) ) and they are horrible. Very springy. Overally, the Days Inn should be nothing more than a place to sleep. Don't expect too much. You'll also be right across the street from the Lincoln Park Zoo and a block away from Second City. Also, you'll be just a few steps away from where Dusty Baker and Michael Barrett live (I used to live in the building myself.) Hope this helps! Baker and Barrett live in the same building?
  11. Bold Prediction: Cubs win this one Aramis Ramirez: HR Prior: 5 IP.......No Decision Dempster: Save I'm not sure if this is bad message board ettiquette in terms of jinxing, but if that is the case I don't think it matters any more. If anything it will give me a reason to watch. Yhen I can see how my predictions go.
  12. Kill two bird with one stone.......criticize the Cubs and Brewers in one sign. "Even Milwaukee is laughing at us!!!!"
  13. The Twins were just Neified. Infield hit for Neifi and forces an error on the throw, Cubs score on the play. Yay!!!!!!
  14. I would second the choice of Sheffield's. Great bar and as mentioned excellent beer garden. http://www.sheffieldschicago.com/
  15. Yeah, but he bashes absolutely EVERYONE, even if it means double-speaking constantly. He's written so many articles where he'll completely counter an argument he made earlier. Back in the early 90's he did this all the time in terms of Jordan and the Bulls. This is when it became obnoxiously apparent that he just flip flops his argument. The guy sells papers. He must be doing something right?? Apparently not enough considering they're the number two paper in town. The Sun-Times is technically the "number two paper in town" however, it's sports section has been held in higher regard (than the Tribune's) for years. In fact, the Sun-Times is synonymous with sports in many circles and it's circulation is greater than the Trib's at the newsstand. True. I agree in terms of the sports page especially in terms of Illinois high school sports coverage. But like you said it has a greater circulation newstand wise. Tribune has a stronger distribution subscpition wise. One major reason the Sun-Times sells more newsstand wise is due to format. The tabloid style is easier to read on the daily commute. Just so you know, I wasn't arguing the Sun-Times is bettter than the Trib overall (I'm a Tribune subscriber). I didn't think you were arguing in favor of either, but rather assessing sales and reasoning for sales.

  18. Lots of Bynum and Neifi!!! Oh boy!!! Yep, because the 1991 World Champion Twins were speed demons! Kent Hrbek Dan Gladden Mike Pagliarulo Gary Gaetti(was he on this team?) Scott Leius Brian Harper Chili Davis(older and near retirement) These are some of the main guys I can think and in terms of speed Kirby Puckett, Chuck Knoblauch, and Shane Mack. Not really a roster built on speed and this was their home park. Someone please tell Dusty. Pucket was hardly a speed demon. And yes, Gaetti was on the 1991 twins...and the 1987 twins. Gladden actually stole more bases then Puckett usually did. But, Puckett was pretty quick in terms of tracking down balls in center, so I left him off the slow list. He would get those short legs moving and make some nice catches.

  20. CC Sabathia respectfully disagrees. This team historically struggles with the unknown. BOOF, baby. Yeah, I know they struggle with the unknowns, but the lefty thing takes precedent. The Sabathia thing was an aberration. Heck the winning that series at the Jake was just incomprehensible. The Indians may be a bit down this year, but they are so much better than the Cubs. Santana will baffle Cub hitters just as Pettite did at Wrigley last week.

  22. Because the Cubs will rally around Jacque in his return to Minnesota. Finally, the Cubs have something to play for and will not squander this opportunity.
  23. Got to go with Santana on this one. Lefty pitchers are like kryptonite to the Cubs. Even though relatively unknowns such as Bonser also fall into this category; I think that Santana is just too skilled for an "aggressive" Cub hitting team.
  24. If the Cardinals lose...... is this the first time they have been swept since the Cubs series in April???
  25. I got a kick out of the Aflac trivia question. Who was the last Cardinal to lead the league in strikeouts? Answer: Jose De Leon Darrin Jackson proceeds to say, "Jose spent some time here (as a White Sox pitcher)." Hawk responds, "Yes, he did." Conversation over. I'm sure that Darrin has no idea that Hawk was the man who traded for DeLeon and gave Bobby Bonilla in return to the Pirates. An Hawk did not seem to want to discuss that.
