  1. http://people.stat.sfu.ca/~tim/papers/goalie.pdf it doesn't really matter what the likelihood of getting scored on is. you're already losing, you can't lose more
  2. Obviously not a perfect match but I think they are more Dodgers than Cubs. Terrific success in the middle of the last century and then not much since then. Maybe a combination of Dodgers/Indians/Cubs. I could see the Indians part. Do people really hate the Dodgers? It seems like all of hockey has an inherent contempt for the Leafs. do people hate the indians? plus, the tribe made it to the WS twice in the mid/late 90's
  3. that jerk is a damn liar http://web.tigerwoods.com/aboutTiger/inTheBag in some parallel universe where i am an alcoholic fringe tour player, i'm hopefully making fun of him for using a game improvement club
  4. wow, crazy ending to the series no one wanted to win
  5. he waffles on the 2 iron, swapping it in and out depending on the course and probably the weather (i think he almost always uses his 2 iron at the open championship, for example, where lower ball flight is desireable)
  6. umm go wings? this is weird
  7. bergeron is pretty awesome, but sequin seems to have an edge when looking at some of the underlying info that wouldn't be colored by the 6 extra games he played seguin's and marchand's corsi/fenwick were horrible with bergeron out (i saw the stat a week ago and now i can't find it -- i wanna say they were registering about 30% of all shot attempts while on the ice for that 6 game stretch). bergeron also has the disadvantage, i guess, of getting more d-zone starts b/c he can win draws. when he loses those draws, i have to imagine that hurts his numbers a bit. seguin and marchand both presumably saw time away from bergeron at times during the season, which would ease their matchups and help their numbers. hmm, that's the most important thing that i was not able to really grasp or track down, how sequin really fared away from bergeron. mostly because the time away is sparse, and difficult to draw conclusions from. though, the fen/corsi numbers you posted are consistently bad, so there's probably something to that awesome post man
  8. yeah sergio is such a lil bitch and man, wins in 4/6 tournaments this year? if he hadn't hit that damn flag and triple-bogeyed we'd probably be talking about a tiger grand slam right now

  10. bergeron is pretty awesome, but sequin seems to have an edge when looking at some of the underlying info that wouldn't be colored by the 6 extra games he played haha, what a dope, i used a "q" instead of a "g". anyway i thought about this more, and i'm curious why you say that bergeron is "much, much" better. granted, my exposure to the bruins is limited to nationally televised games or a feed here or there cause i don't have the nhl network, but from what i have seen and what the numbers seem to say, seguin has the edge

  12. toews will always have a tough time with this as long as there are elite players on the same team, given the way the hart trophy is qualified (most valuable to team). datsyuk makes sense, getzlaf to a lesser extent. but the most valuable to the team thing makes it silly that crosby was nominated given the pretty good performance of the pens without him. however, if you're talking most valuable of all players, that ovechkin and tavares are on the list is awful. there were mounds of players more valuable than them. if i had to rank league most valuable i would say 1) crosby 2) toews 3) seguin a bit of a flier on seguin since the points aren't there, but he was really, really good this year and is a big reason why boston won hockey games. they did very well when he was on the ice, esp. at even strength
  13. saad for the calder this too many trophies thing really does throw you for a loop
  14. the worst part might be the sobotka jersey
  15. so much of the awesome http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/eulogy-remembering-2012-13-vancouver-canucks-164011848.html#more-58053 well maybe, we'll see. but still, YES also this
  16. not worried about torres or sharks. i'm looking forward to play a team that can actually compete and challenge the hawks to be better. this was basically 5 scrimmages so their skating muscles wouldn't atrophy
  17. Just love that guy. Man, I don't know who it was he leveled, but he really put a shoulder into a guy last night. tom gilbert http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=35&id=247472&lang=en that hit made me cringe a little when i saw the replay last night. it's the definition of a hockey play, a good, solid hit to the body. unfortunately for gilbert, his head is attached to his body and became a secondary point of contact. though i guess luckily for him, his head is still attached to his body, cause he got worked
  18. Yeah, and hey, it'll actually be relevant soon. My 6yo son is starting "Minor Hawks" in June. http://www.ahai.org/page/show/255822-minor-hawks just tape a 10 lb weight to the back of his stick blade so it never leaves the ice
  19. Usually they like to have a former player/coach in the color spot. they should hire glanville and put color in the color spot
  20. They're also less talented than the Kings and therefore less of a threat for the upset too. so true. i don't really want to play the kings at all
  21. this is for all you young players out there
  22. man i hate the blues, but i kind of want them to win that series in the hopes that their demise can come at the hands of the hawks. they're the only team left that i want a spite win out of now that the nucks are golfing
  23. leddy isn't very good offensively. it just seems that way because he can go coast-to-coast in like five strides and you're so in awe that you fail to process that he didn't do anything when he got past the blue line part of the problem is our defensemen take such low-percentage shots. it's a disease. they rip wild slapshots into the shins of those hapless players who are hoping to actually do something useful
  24. Man, this Deng stuff is scary. hotel pizza >:0
