  1. we must not speak its name
  2. the two men up the middle are pretty solid rizzo is a lock outfield is outrageous luckily our rotation is solid and stable luis valbuena
  3. If $210m is correct, and the dodgers are getting 2m/game, that's about 10 games. It kind of seems like a no brainer. Sorry, forgot to carry, 100 games. carry what?
  4. i expected to be more up in arms about so few games, er, game, but it is what it is hopefully we get good news about hossa tomorrow
  5. is arizona's adjusted for the addition of campana?
  6. rolling them in a series on our way to hoisting lord stanley's cup will make this all better
  7. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/diamondbacks-acquire-tony-campanas-base-stealing entirely anecdotal yes, campana is fast. yes, he is incredibly successful at stealing bases. yes, in situations where he doesn't have hurt your team by wielding a heavy wooden stick, that is valuable now that we're through stating the obvious, let's just remember two things: a) the diamondbacks gave up non-filler prospects (TWO!) for that, and b) it is highly unlikely the diamondbacks only use him in the most optimal way way. singular.
  8. This is the only part of the Van spin that I agree with. I didn't see an arm up before the scrum happened after Hoss went down. yeah, that's actually true. and while the refs do tend to do a piss-poor job of recognition in these situations in general, that was a hard play to see from most angles, so you can't really put the miss on them so much but this incident is also a reminder of how tragic it is to the game to have a relatively brilliant hockey mind like AV be such an insufferable wench
  9. in re-watching the video a few times this morning, either hansen was going in there with the intent to do damage or he has the worst hand-eye coordination on earth. if he was playing the puck, he actually could have beat hossa to it. instead, he used the opportunity lunge laterally, forearm-first, into the head of another player. calling something a "hockey play" is just code for "acceptable damage". this isn't acceptable whether it's an elite player like duncan keith or hack like hansen (who, might i add, slashed the [expletive] out of bolland the last meeting, causing him to miss time, as well as pushed toews head-first into the goal post earlier in the game) while i love to see a little fistacuffs here and there as much as the next meatball, this is a high-speed, high-skill game with no place for this type of buffoonery
  10. gio exonerated lol that's like buying aspirin from a coke dealer not exonerated? http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/content/Image/02-20-2009/ryan-braun.jpg http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8963926/documents-south-florida-clinic-heart-mlb-performance-enhancing-drugs-investigation-link-five-baseball-players
  11. man that shaw winner was just nasty
  12. that POS said in the locker room that it was a hockey play, that they collided. umm no you gutless clown, you elbowed an elite player in the back of the head on purpose, and then skated backwards when someone tried to hold you accountable. no worries, he'll get his fists. but in the meantime, shanny best do the right thing at least as bad as what keith did, if not worse, given the context. 5 games min
  13. that win felt so good, though less so due to that gutless forearm by hansen. he better get suspended a long time for that garbage but yeah, FEELS GOOD to beat those jerks, even if we did almost give it away there. i don't even care about the record or whatever, i just love how good our team is. hopefully seabrook's change purse starts feeling better soon
  14. speak for yourselves
  15. i definitely get the anxiety over the thought that he may have meant that in terms of absolute dollar amount, but i don't think it takes a whole lot of imagination to assume that he was referring to spending that much money on the major league roster while the the rest of the organization was incredibly unhealthy, playing in a run-down facility, and failing to maximize revenue.
  16. tony campana walks up to the batter's box http://www.milb.com/images/2010/05/24/sb3LHbLC.jpg
  17. I don't get this, other than in the generic "we don't need any players at all because we're rebuilding." If he has a small amount of value, then I don't see why a bad team wouldn't benefit from his stolen bases even more because of their lack of SLG. So, you'd keep him on our 25 man roster over Sappelt? You've got Jackson in AAA too, waiting to be called up. Campana has one very nice tool and was squeezed out here. Plenty of value received for a 25th guy that wasn't even a fit to be our 25th guy. I don't think he said any of those things. i think maybe his point might have been that we were the 2nd-worst team in baseball and the large-bodied version of that nerdy kid from the little giants still wasn't worthy of the 25-man roster
  18. well those turds have swallowed up such a large share of low-SLG players that they likely can find one of the 500-something players that can SLG better than tiny tim
  19. Yes. no i mean, maybe, if we're not talking about a major league baseball team during the 80% of the season that they're limited to 25 players when you steal bases at a ratio of 3 for every 5 that you touch by virtue of a baseball bat, it is because no one was paying attention to you or likely even forgot you existed because you are terrible and forgettable and too minuscule to be seen in one's peripheral vision

The NY Times does the same thing, where a linked version of the article bypasses the pay wall. It's actually a very intelligent strategy. Plz explain. Because if you have a hard pay wall, then nobody will read your articles because nobody will link to your articles, and you won't get any clicks or any advertising money. The pay wall is for people who read the paper frequently and should be subscribers. They access the content from the home/front page. Yeah sure, someone could figure out that they can manually bypass the pay wall using google, but that's pretty tedious and actually not the norm. It has worked very well for the NY Times. Lots of content publishers are going to this model.
