  1. tuukka rask, teammate of the year
  2. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/2823999/toewsjam_medium.gif really, this is a problem with the rules. a hit like this is technically legal because toews changes position and boychuk's initial point of contact isn't the head, but these are merely technicalities. there's a non-trivial difference between the initial and the primary points of contact, that latter of which was toews' ear. and yes, toews position changes, but so does boychuk's, by straightening up and putting him in better position to make a very dangerous hit. this is after chara makes contact with toews head twice on the same play. the league is doing a terrible job of policing away from intentional injury
  3. it's definitely a skill, but it's also part of how well they collapse and crowd out the middle by putting themselves in the high puck traffic areas. it's a really smart defensive scheme that is executed well more often than not. the hawks antidote to this is to stretch the ice and get shots on rask with as few bruins defenders in the area as possible but that's only one side to swinging things back in the right direction. we have to play better defense, especially from those yippy swedes. of course, a hossa-for-smith swap should work wonders
  4. things looked worse against the wings things looked worse against the wings things looked worse against the wings
  5. lol you guys. the hawks are the better team. while that doesn't mean that they will win, it definitely means that they have a better chance of winning what is now a best of five i don't expect anyone to back off of the ledge, and i don't even necessarily want you to. i just think this should be pointed out
  6. i mean if it were me i would just do the same thing back to them
  7. yeah wow http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=673796&navid=DL|NHL|home
  8. hahahahah, my tivo did the same thing a little earlier in the 3OT, but i was maybe 2 min behind so i had this sinking feeling thinking that the game ended sometime in that gap. nope
  9. also, this very easily could have been 7-3 in favor of the bruins had crow not been outstanding. i feel confident that we have the best goalie in this series, that goofy looking tuuuuukkkkkka rask ain't [expletive]
  10. The game looked different in my eyes. Bruins defense prevented them from losing 10-3 but the Hawks controlled for the most part. yeah, the numbers don't lie. i guess i was just amazed at how well boston dealt with the hawks in the defensive zone, especially controlling the quality of chance in many cases. but i was definitely a overzealous in my declaration of boston's performance last night saad lighting the lamp was awesome. good for him, he earned it
  11. ONE MORE THING before i pass out COREY CRAWFORD
  12. OH i almost forgot... GREAT NEWS! someone reanimated the corpse of dave bolland, or maybe he finally shook his post-concussion badness. either way, good to have you back, rat
  13. i wish i would have tallied how many times i thought to myself, "man, the blackhawks are going to have a lot of work to do after this loss." the bruins were just better in pretty much every way for most of the game, the exception being goaltending. the hawks definitely carried play at times, but as soon as it was noticeable, the bruins forecheck and general stick wizardry would break it up and things would get back to the neutral zone quickly i just am unimpressed with rask. he's overconfident, i knew he was going to get beat when he misplayed that shot before the winner. he just has an incredible defense in front of him that is able to drive down the quality of shot that is put on him. i suppose that's not a knock on him, but in the end, we scored twice as many goals in this game as pittsburgh did all series. he's just catching all the glory for what is a great, great defense we stole this one, hopefully we make the adjustments needed to not have to rely on thievery
  14. I think this means we'll see Kane get double shifted a lot in game 1. With the long layoff after game 1 it's not a terrible idea. Though the same could be accomplished by dressing Stalberg who's a much better player despite having little to show for it so far in the playoffs. a better player, sure, but better performing? he's started in the offensive zone 75% of the time, leading the team in the playoffs, and nothing to show for it. he's either seriously unlucky or not doing the right things at the right times to get his production where it needs to be. hopefully he can breakthrough in the final at some point, lord knows we can use all we can get
  15. which is dumb, the pens were not even close to the best team in the east, let alone both conferences, entering the playoffs. of course, being that dumb isn't good enough. when the team you thought was the best team gets swept in the playoffs, rather than think "oh maybe my original thoughts on this were wrong", people think "OMFG BOSTON WILL ROLL THE HAWKS". uhh, no. the hawks are the better team. i would not at all be surprised if, rather than be buoyed by their wins over the pens, they probably brought them down a notch since they were such a terrible competitor. this boston team has never faced anything like what the hawks will be throwing at them, four lines deep. they are about to play the best team in the nhl, the likes of which they didn't even come close to playing this season
  16. i blame the coal dust I wonder if AV will get the Pens job. As I type this, somewhere in Pittsburgh someone is burning Bylsma in effigy. One of my Pens fan friends said that the Pens might try to get Bernier from the Kings and they're throwing around Malkin's name as trade bait since they can't pay him with the lower cap. yeah, i could see vigneault going to the pens if bylsma's head rolls (which it probably should). i don't think bernier should be a target for them, some picks and a good-to-great defenseman is what they need, considering they're already paying 7 mil to goalies next year. marc-andre fleury's cristobal huet impression probably has more to do with a nonexistent defense than a newfound ability to tend goal cross-eyed
  17. Whoever wrote that really needs a thesaurus. I also liked the comment "We should call him the MArquis du Saad and teach him about pain". A saddist likes administering pain, not receiving it. That's a masochist. yeah, boston pro sports sites are usually just an abortion of humor. they're trying so hard to make flip comments that they end up stringing maybe a few coherent sentences together. yeah, that was so bad that the "linesmen pop out of the ether to stop it" part seemed almost smile-worthy in relief
  18. i'd also like to remind you that you thought we lost each and every game of the series at some point lol they ended up not matching up as well as i thought they would. i think that has more to do with the hawks level of play, which has elevated in the last 8 or 9 games that was my reverse jinx mojo yeah but that's backwards. it becomes reverse jinx mojo, but only because you're actually freaking out. to be like "aww man lost that faceoff too bad so sad series down the draaaain" with no zest or conviction would be more like reverse reverse mojo. only the 'MOTHER OF GOD HOW IS THAT SLASHING THESE DAMN REFS ARE GOING TO GIVE THE DAMN SERIES TO THESE CLOWNS' full-throttle rejection of anything resembling patience or reason can effectively work as reverse jinx mojo and besides, i think the elevated play of the hawks, the health of the kings (ex. brown, torn pcl), and whatever was wrong with jonathan quick had more to do with the quick exit than the paper matchup
  19. that thing has really jumped the shark, and the homophobic jokes are pretty distasteful
  20. i'd also like to remind you that you thought we lost each and every game of the series at some point lol they ended up not matching up as well as i thought they would. i think that has more to do with the hawks level of play, which has elevated in the last 8 or 9 games
  21. patrick kane is better than everyone
