Whoever we end up getting, I hope they encourage Caleb to throw the horsefeathers ball downfield into coverage sometimes. It's very nice that he doesn't throw a lot of picks, but you can see how it makes his game suffer in every other single way. He's still at this moment like, better than Fields ever was, but he can be so much more.

If there's a good Center prospect in the first couple rounds, I wouldn't hate spending a high pick on one. It's such an important position to lock down, I think it has to be a priority, and someone young that you can keep around for a while. Turns out I was super wrong last year when I was like 'hey, we're pretty set across the board after we take Caleb, just take best player available" lol

Yeah I don't agree with whatever person has said Odunze has been a disappointment. I think he's been really good for a rookie on the whole. Moore, on the other hand, hasn't been awesome. Kmet has completely disappeared, and I don't know how much that has to do with him or with the play design. Relying so much on Keenan Allen who absolutely wont be here next year is also worrisome. Did someone kill Tyler Scott? Whatever happened to that guy?

i feel like i'm losing my mind here: every new coach goes to a "bad" situation, or else the previous coach would still be coaching! there are the rare exceptions of guys who retire in glory, like Bill Cowher retiring to Mike Tomlin, but its rare!

the good news is that once you have secured a good QB, every season can be the turnaround season but Caleb's gotta get better, of course, and he's got some bad habits already he'll have to unlearn

Definitely feeling justified in not watching this one. Is Caleb going to set a franchise record for sacks taken in a season? I'm not sure I know what it is and it could be something ludicrous like Randall Cunningham's rookie season edit: oh lmao, he's already set it with 3.5 games to go! amazing

uhhhh the only time I remember Amegadjie out there was a stretch of like 5 plays against Washington (I think?) when he came in and immediately got blown up on every single play and then got injured.

I would like to fully apologize to the person I made fun of for saying the Bears were looking at 7-10 as an optimistic outcome after they lost the Washington game. I was obviously wrong, and I accept all punishment/embarrassment/humiliation/etc.

With the way their coach takes risk? Absolutely not I fully expect they blow a playoff game in a very similar fashion to last year (I want to be very clear that I think Dan Campbell is a 'good coach' but that I think he's bent the stick a little too far in his risk assessment and he gets punished for it against very good teams)

If Poles wanted to fire Eberflus before this season and McCaskey overruled hiim and said he couldn't, I may actually join the meatballs in the belief that its impossible for the Bears to do anything until the McCaskey's sell the team. As it is though, everything is unconfirmed. I've seen conflicting reports that Poles fought hard for Eberflus in the off-season, that Poles wanted Eberflus gone and was overruled, to etc etc. I have no idea what the true story is.

I mean every team thats bad and losing usually looks like a mess organizationally. There are a number of franchises I'd say are worse and less appealing than the Bears - The Panthers, The Jets probably, the Browns... and none of the teams that are looking for a new coach have a promising asset as tantalizing as Caleb Williams. So we have that. On the other hand, even though we're probably in a better spot than the worst of the worst, the ownership is still really bad and who knows whats going on with the GM, who could possibly be fired next year. So that gums things up.

But the NFL’s changed, he’s 72 years old, and his teams looked completely washed after Brady left. No. No John Fox 2.0. give me a young hungry guy who understands offense. That’s all I want. There are like 19 of those guys floating around. Get the least dumb one.☝️

I made fun of it at the time, and I still don’t think there are any RBs that should warrant a first round pick given where the NFL is at these days, but I still gotta hand it to the Lions for making the most of it. (And I will still think virtually any position player is more valuable as a 1st rounder aside from maybe linebacker)

The Bears's cycle over the past 20+ years isn't sustained badness, its periods of intense competitiveness followed by long stretches of mediocrity and badness. We get a tantalizing season or two of being contenders before disappearing for the next 5-6 years, only to repeat the process over and over again.

How much would I savor a week 18 win vs. the Packers if they have nothing to play for and rest people? Well, it would at least break the most shameful streak they have going. And would start Williams off for 2025 with a big win. So it's something.

I dunno maybe I'll end up looking real stupid, but if the McCaskey's were that concerned about a few million, they'd just keep going with Eberflus for a couple more years and let him play out his contract I don't think its exactly penny pinching that has them do their thing- its organizational inertia and conservatism (not politically, just in terms of how they view their business and the sport)
