The hyperbole in this thread is astouding. None of the people saying that his power was leaving him never said he wasn't a vastly valuable player, but a lot of his value came from his power. If he can still hit .300+ get on base 40% of the time and still slug more than .500 he's an incredible valuable player and one of the best 15 or so players in the whole major leagues. He just wont be the best like he was in 2005.

Its still somewhat meaningless...if we keep outscoring opponents, we're going to start winning games. I just hope the Pitchers don't get all bummed about being time and time let down by the hitting and just stop giving a crap.

I was 10 and they broke my heart. 80-82 marked the high water mark until 1984 when they re-broke my heart OH sweet, average baseball players.

Tillman and Briggs are two prime examples. Both were considered reaches when we drafted them. Then there's guys like Anderson, who were just sitting around for no reason at all. Berrian was kind of like that. It's good to have a GM who doesn't flap just because everyone else is, and is capable of picking up that great value. The only flaw is the spotty 1st round performance, and I still can't really figure out why he misses so often with the big picks. Pressure to deliver a superstar? I'd rather he trade down in the top 25 or so picks. So he'll pick up Danieal Manning (A fine backup/starter in a pinch) and Devin Hester (a superstar in waiting) rather than one bust. But in the 31 spot, I think that pressure is lifted, and he can finagle what he'd like to do. Maybe thats a big reason why he didn't make the trade to the 6 spot with Briggs.

Apples and oranges. The Bulls won 75% of their home games this season. The Cubs won 54% of their home games in 2003. Not to mention the Cubs won game 6 that year. And no amount of logic, reason, "truth", or therapy will ever get me to believe differently. The only reality is the Party's reality. Doublethink. I love Big Brother.

ok...but putting that in context...seattle didn't make the postseason...therefore, it has no event on my arguement are you serious? yes I'm confused as to why the Seattle record "has no event". The point was that Seattle had a winning record in one run games, and yet that didn't affect their overall record. Indians had a losing record in one run games, and yet they managed to still win 93 games. Those are both significant in that it shows that one run games have little to no effect on overall record. Who made the playoffs has nothing to do with anything. yeah, i meant to say no bearing...i am just waking up...sorry for the shoddy typing... but i am not relating it to the season...i am trying to relate it to the postseason and series I think if you did the research it would show little to no correlation between "record in 1 run games" and "postseason success"

I think if we can blow teams out for 40 straight games we'd be sittin pretty. Do people not understand that blowing teams out is more impressive than winning close games? I think its a pretty common misconception. Winning close games just means you got a little lucky and was evenly matched with another team. Blowing a team out means you beat them in every sense of the game.

Who cares if hes knocking the ball all over the place and his OPS is still .938 for the season. I'm pretty sure I covered that. His OPS in 2005 was an insane 1.150 or something though. Look, if he's still OBPing .400 and SLG .500+ then I'm happy.
