  1. This season [expletive] rules God I'm having so much fun. It's not bravado at all to say the Cubs are a better current team than the Cardinals. It's too bad Arrieta will only be able to play 1 against them. [expletive] em up Cubs!
  2. Kyle Schwarber has so much swag for a dude that looks like an offensive linemen
  3. Arrieta didn't even have his best control today and he complete game shut out the 2nd best tr in the league. Schwarbers dinger, and his pimping of it, is a top fan moment of mine of all time. Glorious.
  4. That was cool and I liked it and it was very good
  5. A defense from the Pirates perspective on Rodriguez (I don't find it very convincing but whatevs) http://www.bucsdugout.com/2015/10/7/9473149/nl-wild-card-game-sean-rodriguez-in-pirates-lineup "Scenario A: The Pirates get to Jake Arrieta early and have a 3-0 lead in the third. Result: Rodriguez stays in the game as a sort of all-night defensive replacement; the Pirates don't risk Pedro Alvarez starting a Cubs rally with an error or two at first base. Scenario B: Neither the Pirates nor the Cubs score the first time through the order, and it's 0-0 through three. Result: The Pirates begin entertaining the idea of using Alvarez as a pinch-hitter almost immediately, and certainly have him pinch-hit for Rodriguez if Rodriguez is due to come to the plate when there's an opportunity to score. Scenario C: The Cubs get to Gerrit Cole early and have a 3-0 lead in the third. Result: Alvarez's defense no longer tops the Pirates' list of concerns, and he pinch-hits for Rodriguez or someone else at the earliest possible opportunity."
  6. .666 career OPS, OPSing .642 this year. I don't know what is going on with their roster but it does seem like a pretty poor bat to put in such a premium offensive position
  7. My initial reaction is to dislike that plan an awful lot. An outfield of Schwarber-Bryant-Soler/Coghlan would be hilariously bad defensively Wonder what the chance is they keep Jackson around
  8. Arrieta batting 9th, Schwarber in RF batting 2nd, Bryant in LF I'm cool with it
  9. Multiple people have brought up LaStella's ability to put the ball in play on the relatively rare chance he's up to bat in a 3rd and <2 out scenario, and I think thats really weird. LaStella might be the choice to play, but his ability in such a rare scenario is not the reason why.
  10. Yeah I had the same humbling thought that, [expletive], to win this division in the future they'll likely have to improve and (I imagine the Cardinals will return to earth somewhat, but the Pirates are still on the come-up) and you can only do so much to get better when you're so close to the top. I'm afraid they'll increase their talent level but not get as "lucky" (one-run games, sequencing luck, etc etc) but that's just baseball.
  11. Go Blue Jays, they're cool and hit dongers and aren't the Yankees love those throwback insignias for the playoff bracket
  12. David, as much as you're committed to fighting irrational posting in the game threads, it's always gonna be a pure id-driven emotionally charged place. Doubly so for the playoffs, as emotions run higher and even more randos come into the threads. I mean, I wish you the best, but it's gonna be a losing battle (and if I'm near a phone or computer and not hanging with folks, I'll probably engage in it as well)
  13. what was even the point of keeping Matt Williams after like, August, when the team was completely lost. I never get that when its completely obvious a guy is gonna get fired, but they let him play out the string anyway
  14. If we win on Wednesday, wanna bet you change your mind about that? Maybe. I don't think so though. I don't think I can feel more humiliated by a rival more than the 2010 Packers in the NFL Championship game, its completely dulled my capacity for those feelings. Yeah I guess this sums me up about it. I feel like its playing with house money, we wouldn't be favored or expected to win, we're starting off on a decade of competitiveness, we can only really humiliate them.
  15. That's pretty cool. And considering batting order (which is something I think rarely rarely rarely factors in to peformance EXCEPT-) I expect many Shortstops bat 8th right in front of the pitcher and that inflates their BB even more than it "naturally" would.
  16. This game is going to destroy me. I want to make the Divisional Series so bad, I just want to see this team get multiple games in the playoffs, it actually doesn't aggravate me that much that they will play the Cardinals and could lose in extra-heartbreaking fashion to the top rival. I just want to see this team get 3 more guaranteed games.
  17. Maybe Hendricks *is* the third starter we all have been waiting for (Starts against garbage teams not trying factored in)
  18. This is kind of silly, but also kinda neat http://grantland.com/the-triangle/2015-mlb-mvp-debate-bryce-harper-yoenis-cespedes-anthony-rizzo/?ex_cid=story-twitter "Rizzo has slashed .278/.388/.511 overall, a little more than 40 percent better than the average NL hitter after adjusting for the friendly confines. But he’s excelled in crucial spots, batting .313/.438/.553 with men on, .296/.417/.578 with runners in scoring position, and .283/.479/.547 with two outs and runners in scoring position. And because he plays for a postseason team, Rizzo’s clutchness counts"
  19. The Reds may have a bunch of stupid little hits today but they also have zero (0) walks, which matters to me much more
  20. Addison Russell within striking distance of that .700 OPS. Just gotta get a couple more extra base hits and continue getting on base, Addy! This is very important btw
  21. I don't know how many huge situations Rodney will face, as he's behind a few faces on the totem pole. Given Maddon's love of him and some of Grimm's uneasiness of late, I fully expect Rodney to get some innings in the playoffs (if the Cubs move on) Those will be my most butt clenched moments
  22. I definitely have visions of Rodney blowing a huge situation in the playoffs This has more to do with my intense hatred of Fernando Rodney than anything else, but I can't change that
  23. Yeah I'm kinda curious how a .286/.324/.400 only equals a .311 wOBA and a 95 wRC+, I guess the Wrigley adjustments have swung in the other direction?
