  1. The BABIP Gods are doing everything they possibly can for Heyward
  2. Nice. Back to positive winning percentage. Cards lose. All good things.
  3. Kolten Wong is really, really, really annoying
  4. Watching this Cardinals team makes me think that perhaps...defense is important
  5. Heyward really giving us those BABIP hits. Not playing any better but at least he's inflating his value
  6. I find it less annoying than the fact that during football season they have a minimum 3 football guests a day - and they all cover the same ground of a terrible Bears team. At least with callers there's a chance there's going to be something totally bizarre and funny. Goff and Bernstein is a good combo. The best era of the show was when Goff was a producer and Boers was still engaged, and they virtually had a 3 host show there. My only concern is, as someone who will sometimes listen to both shows, that whoever replaces him on Spiegel's show will be vanilla nonsense. This is the worst time of year for sports radio (if you have a terrible football team) anyway because there isn't much to talk about really.
  7. this is cool and will help bridge the gap of attention i'll sorely need before baseball really gets going again That Brian Matusz game was the only game I was able to go to this year, and like a ding dong, I left before the come back and victory
  8. Listening to the final show now. B&B were the lifeline that got me through really dull jobs for the past 5 years that also graciously allowed me to listen to the radio. Hope Boers can enjoy sometime in retirement but it doesn't sound good. Bernstein definitely needs a strong personality that can keep him in check for the show to be listenable, we shall see.
  9. One of the best things about the 2015 playoffs was Mike Shannon struggling to pronounce Cubs players' names as they dong his team to death. (IIRC he had a "Schwaba" and a "Solar" call) This deal seems fine to me and I overall approve of the Cubs strategy regarding relief pitchers. Its not as Hot Stove Satisfying as last years moves, but it all makes sense.
  10. It's gonna be really fun watching Almora play CF over 150+ games, at least
  11. I love Dex, I would have been fine if they vanity signed him to a stupid big and long contract here, but its also not a great baseball move to sign a 31 year old to a huge contract when a lot of his game relies on athleticism. I am a little bummed that it seems like no matter what we're going to see a decline in play from the CF spot - but mostly because Dex was so good and had a career year. It's gonna suck to not have the first 4 players in our batting order basically .400 OBP players. That was nice. But we get Schwarber and (probably) Heyward back in some offensive fashion.
  12. I was one of Soler's biggest boosters on this board, and I'm ok with this deal. I think we're seeing the front office's philosophy regarding elite relievers play out between this and the Chapman trade: They really don't want to give long deals to relievers. They're more than fine with having stopgaps after stopgaps, perhaps they prefer it that way. (Well, stopgaps and fireballing young pitchers) Whether or not that's the strongest philosophy, I don't know, but its certainly being illustrated.
  13. Huh, so not a lot changed but some good changes. I, an actual child, like that the season will start earlier because that means I don't have to wait so long for the season, even if it means the playing conditions in late March/earl April are fraught.
  14. If Terry shows up at one of their remotes I'll consider taking a half day or something and visiting one to say Hi, given how much I've listened to that damn show over the years
  15. :( Terry Boers has always been a really likable guy, even when Dan can be very very irritating. Terry just seemed like a good dude. It's real sad.
  16. The White Sox making this grand proclamation that they wont trade with the Cubs so epitomizes why that organization is totally adrift, mediocre and myopic. Yes, make some empty gesture that ends up spiting yourself more than anybody else because you're terrified of helping the better organization that shares the city with you. God damn its stupid.
  17. *long exaggerated shrug*
  18. there's not greater torture than forcing the Bears to play 6 more games this season
  19. I really wont believe the White Sox will trade Sale until they do, despite the fact they should have traded him basically at any point in the past few years. I look forward to them trying to reload again and winning 78 games like they always do.
  20. I think Jim Hendry did a bad job and wasn't and will never be a very good executive, but it does give me some warm fuzzies to know he was given credit for getting some of the talent (some very meaningful talent) that led to the World Series.
