  1. Enough ink has been spilled about this but if Nagy's whole thinking is like "Fields isn't going to start by week 4-5 but then will play" I find it absolutely baffling. If we're already accepting the fact that Fields is going to take the reins at some point this year, why not just do it now. What is 2-3 more weeks going to do. Just totally inane.
  2. It's good the Cubs have chosen a season nobody has any emotional investment in to blow I think 3 different games where they've held a 7-0 lead early on It's almost impossible to lose that many games like that
  3. Uhhhhh Well in 4 plays I think I saw how this season is gonna go for the most part
  4. Happ is absolutely murdering the ball the last month+. I think it’s safe to say he’s back, a solid 800+ OPS guy who you can count on in the future, right? Glad to see him right the ship.
  5. I gotta tip my hat to Jason Heyward, in an arch-disappointing season filled with awful performances, Heyward is flying under the radar in putting in his worst season as a Cub. Which is difficult because his 2016 was so bad. Currently at a .599 OPS. Keeping an eye on how poorly he ends the season.
  6. Friendship ended with Patrick Wisdom, now Frank Schwindel is my best friend
  7. As sad as it is to say, I think Soler got his one monstrous year out of the way and now he’s back to being Jorge Soler. Made of glass, butcher in the field, like a .750 OPS guy.
  8. Mets fans don’t know that that’s just regular Javy stuff. Honestly, I said it before and I’ll say it again: Javy was the one core guy I don’t want under contract into his 30s. He’s a valuable player now with all his physical talents intact, but I don’t want to know what he’s going to look like when his bat starts to slow and he can’t run like he used to. I mean, god bless him, he can’t manage a .300 OBP *now* consistently, what’s it gonna be like in 5 years?
  9. History says “never”, as OL has been a concern every year I’ve watched this team (under multiple coaches and GM’s) I'm straining to think of a period where the OL was good for a long stretch, but I'm pretty sure the 2005-2006 teams had good line play, or at least, they stayed healthy enough that it worked out well enough. The last 10 years have been just consistently awful though.
  10. Sometimes you think there must be something the fan isn't privy to, that the front office/coaching staff/medical team has some hidden insight into a player that justifies an acquisition and continued use of a player who keeps failing on the field. And other times you're just like, oh they're just as dumb as any of us - this guy is demonstrably done as a player and somehow keeps getting chances. Everything about Arrieta now bums me out. It would have been better for him to have vanished in a puff of smoke after 2016.
  11. Poor Chris Davis has to be in the running for worst contract of all time right? Everyone knew it was a bad idea at the time, he had the most pronounced 'old guy' skills of anyone ever, and then they gave him the GDP of a small country and he folded as a productive player immediately. There are other contracts that maybe garnered less value-to-money ratio, but this was like watching a train ram into a car from 5 miles away and the conductor being like "yes, lets do this".
  12. It's honestly a shame he's doing his best Jake Fox impression right now, and not during a season where they Cubs are trying. At least in a future year we could bank some value with this guy, because I don't think its gonna continue. Or maybe it will? Who knows, he got a kinda raw deal with how history has played out, so maybe he has a few good hitting years in him. But the vast majority of the time there are some pitching adjustments and blam, thats it.
  13. What an ignominious end for Arrieta and the Cubs. A shame. Probably shouldn't have brought him back in a desperate attempt to placate fans and give a little 2016 shine to this turd of a season. Will always wish him well, though I expect this is the end to his professional career, whether or not he bounces around for a while.
  14. Of horsefeathering course he does. It was only a matter of time when he decided against taking the vaccine. horsefeathering hell man.
  15. I’m still more sad about losing Len than any of the rest of the boys :|
  16. Coincidentally, he also has the lowest OPS of any hitter in the lineup
  17. i gotta give Jed credit in one way: he didn't half-ass it. No half measures here. We'll see if it pays off, because this is a team and a franchise in a division where one doesn't need to field an exceptionally strong team to contend for the playoffs year in year out.
  18. I’m kind of shocked how little Kimbrel netted us. Perhaps the best reliever in baseball with an option year with a lot of suitors. What the heck?
  19. well this took a blow within a couple hours
  20. I'm ok with this provided they go all out to extend Bryant (but I'm extremely skeptical they will)
  21. Absolutely bizarre. Though were I to bet I would think he’ll reconsider before too long.
  22. I must applaud this team. They’ve moved to “I actively hate their guts and root for them to lose” in record time.
  23. In less than a week I’ve transitioned from “actively rooting for the Cubs to win” to “I have completely accepted this team is dead and will sell its players off for parts and the best I can hope for is ok-ish parts”
