  1. Can we just hate Miles and want a better player than Ronny Cedeno please? EDIT: Oh sure Keener, you just made that post seconds before mine on PURPOSE! ;)
  2. Where's all this patience the Cubs supposedly have?
  3. I agree. That .328 OPS would look miiiiighty fine right about now. Oh damn you showed me. If you think Miles is a better option at the plate than Cedeno, I dont know what to tell you. You can miss Cedeno. I'll miss Mark Derosa.
  4. Marquis is always better at the beginning of the season, too.
  5. The Cubs should hire Jim Edmonds to watch for Cubs tipping their pitches. He was always great at that.
  6. That horrible call at 1b set up that inning. Harden would have been out of the inning if the 1b ump wasn't blind as a bat. The Rockies might still be batting if the ump hadn't blown the call at third to end the inning, or so it appeared on the one replay I saw. The second bad call doesn't happen without the first.
  7. Somehow, every year, I convince myself that the game threads will be less over-the-top reactionary. And every year, I feel foolish for believing such things.
  8. Fontenot, Johnson, Soto to start the inning. That wouldn't be a terrible start to the lineup.
  9. Fukudome was the one that was gunned down. Yeah...my bad. Gamecast on mlb was slow, and I assumed it was Theriot... You guys weren't supposed to notice that post buried at the end of the last page :P
  10. I wonder if Lou is giving a signal to run, or if he's just given Theriot the green light. Here's to hoping he takes that away.
  11. Carpenter to the DL; Thompson to the minors; Chris Perez and Mitch Boggs called up. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/commishs-hot-stove/commishs-hot-stove/cardinal-beat-updates/2009/04/carpenter-to-dl-dominoes-fall/
  12. They've never had a QB that could remotely pull off that kind of offense before. I'm not sure any of us know what they'll do offensively this year. Although when they had Rex and Berrian at their peak, they stretched the field a lot and went to the Super Bowl...and presumeably Cutler is a smidge better than Rex.
  13. Don Banks is good at hiding that deep down Bears fan.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/04/14/snaps.schedule/index.html?eref=T1
  14. I realize this is reading a HUGE amount into the first week of the season, and we're a long ways from the trading deadline, but if Cleveland continues to be a sad excuse for a baseball team, surely Kerry Wood would be available. He's only got a 2 year deal, at $10 million this year, and $10.5 million next. He does have a 3rd year at $11 million vesting if he finishes 55 games in either of the 2 years of the contract. If Kevin Gregg continues to be crap on a stick, would bringing Kerry back be something you'd be interested in? Especially if the never-ending Peavy thing doesn't pan out. If it was a salary clearing move, you might even be able to get him relatively cheaply.
  15. You mean other than last night's, right? I have a bet with my buddy that Carpenter won't win 10 games this season due to injuries.
  16. Maybe, but it's not like Bradley has been some major contributer so far, and we've been ok.
  17. people make this argument all the time, and it's obvious that either a) it's not as easy as you think to throw certain pitches in certain spots all the time or b) he truly doesn't flail at every slider away. otherwise he'd be ryan harvey and not a borderline HOFer. Or C, professional baseball pitchers are cocky sons of bitches that think they can get anybody with their heat and don't need to [expletive] foot around with nothing but breaking balls. well, that's not true. baseball players probably aren't the brightest bunch, but they're smart enough to know that if all they have to do to get out soriano is throw him crap, they'd throw crap. They sure knew how to throw crap every time to get Fukudome out the second half of last season.
  18. http://espn.go.com/chicago/story?id=4066139 The headline says it's a hammy, but the first sentence says groin strain, which is what they were saying yesterday.
  19. Fantastic. I hope we see a lot more Cutler-Olsen association.

I need to remember the bad shots more often though so I don't repeat them as often as I unfortunately do. Tiger banging that shot off the tree looked all too familiar. I try to think of it as the routine. When I hit a good shot, I remember what my routine was. Keep head down, front arm straight, don't slow down on follow-through. It's a mind game, but it's more of "do this" than "don't do that." I wonder what the pros think when they're addressing the ball. Surely they aren't thinking about mechanics.
