  1. false. Look at Patterson's numbers when he isn't bunting for a base hit. Awful. Same tired argument. Lets not rehash it here. Besides, even if you're right about that, your quoted statement is still wrong for the reasons I pointed out.
  2. Vince Coleman was brought in to help with baserunning, not bunting. And it wasn't specifically for CP...it was for the whole team. Here's a nice article referencing "Minor League baserunning instructor Vince Coleman" http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-050521cubsside,1,4019823.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  3. Funny, I know of a place in Chicago with walls covered in ivy where he would be treated like royalty. Until he strikes out a couple times. Unfortunately there's entirely too much truth in this statement. I don't think so...Nomar was struggling through much of his time as a Cub and was still loved by most Cub fans. I don't think there'd be any problem with A-rod as a Cub. There's too many other problems for us to focus on, that even if he's having a rough time, he's still not a "problem".
  4. I thought the Andrew Jones to the White Sox was an interesting rumor on there too...that would really make the Sox a scary team.
  5. That was my favorite part as well. It was kind of a validation of what a lot of folks here on the board have been saying.
  6. I love when people deny things they said on the radio, like someone doesn't have a transcript word for word. He was dead on with his initial comments...I wish he'd stuck to his guns.
  7. Please reply in the fire sale thread: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=33405 viewtopic.php?t=33405
  8. I've got my horses back. The hits are starting to fall in there. *Insert random Dusty cliche*
  9. That was not a double switch.... jones entered the game as a pinch hitter and stayed in. Still stupid. Hey now...don't call Fred stupid!
  10. Is it just me, or does this make it sound like Piniella would take the Cubs job if it was offered? This reaction only makes sense if there was a possiblity he would take it. If he wasn't interested, I don't think he'd have a problem going down there... Or am I reading too much into it?
  11. There is already a thread about this here: Premium: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=33317 Non-Premium: viewtopic.php?t=33317
  12. I have a buddy at work that is a Cardinal fan, and even though he secretly loves that the Cubs are sucking, he can see the same things we all see are wrong with this team....anyway...he told me at the beginning of this year that Dempster was bad, and even though he was on his saves streak, he would come back down to being "Ryan Dempster". That's always his argument about it to. "It's Ryan Freaking Dempster!"
  13. He could do it ya know....
  14. Hey hey hey....you left Rusch out!!!

Time to talk about important stuff..... I really like Toronto's hat!!!
  16. Wow...um...you just completely contradicted yourself.... Ok, that's called average... And that's called OBP, and I don't think we agree on that. Hits are better than walks, but hits+walks > hits. So what you're essentially saying above is Average > OBP but then you say... Uhhhhhh
  17. What if people believe that Dusty helped cause his injuries, but that he can still be a very good pitcher with the right managerial staff in place? Maybe it's not a black and white thing?
  18. Whoa whoa whoa...I just now actually looked at this game.... Juan Freaking Pierre hit a homer??
  19. The only reasoning I could come up with is that he thinks if he starts using him in non-save situations a lot again, he thinks everyone will start complaining about that again. Given that, he probably views the current situation as the lesser of two evils because at least if Dempster gets hurt, people won't put it all on Dusty for overworking another pitcher. In his defense, I can see why he would think irrationally. People have been complaining about his overuse of both the starters and relievers since he got here. No matter what he does, it's wrong, and that sucks for him. There are so many things that people have complained about that he hasn't listened to though, that I doubt this is the case.
  20. I think a little cartoon word balloon is in order in this pic.
  21. I'm not complaining that Dempster is still closer...he should be. But the fact that Dusty realizes that Dempster is underused, and yet still allowed it to happen infuriates me.
  22. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060628&content_id=1527665&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Omg....Dusty it's your job to make sure he gets enough work. arrrrrrgggghhhh.
  23. No offense to MustangMike at all, but MODS, can we be consistent here. We couldn't use Sam ME, we couldn't use K and Patt, can we not allow posters to use Dumpster? If the previous two were juvenile, so is Dumpster. As I think goony said pretty well, it wasn't so much about the names themselves, as it was the sheer frequency of use. If "Dumpster" becomes a problem, we'll address it. Also, in the future, it's probably best to PM a mod with these type of concerns, as it can be missed in the middle of a thread.
