  1. What would Baker have had to do to get a higher percentage? I'm just not sure what more a manager can do to deserve being fired. I agree that Baker should be fired. I think everyone should be fired from top to bottom. Manager, coaches, trainers, everybody. It's so pathetic to see how far this team has fallen in 3 years. Ok....now I'm really really confused. What the heck are we arguing about then? I believe the relative level of anger that should be directed toward each responsible party. Well then I'm done arguing, because frankly who cares...they both suck.

  3. You mean Valentin. Valentine is a former Mets manager. I thought Valentine playing 2B would be highly entertaining... :)

  5. You didn't hear complaints about Dusty in '03?? Wow. A little something about overusing pitchers maybe?
  6. Do you really think that Baker has nothing to do with that?
  7. Hill should be pitching instead of Rusch. Guzman rotted on the bench. Murton got benched for Nevin instead of playing through his slump. He's hitting again now with more playing time. Baker has always looked upon young players as an obstacle to overcome, instead of the potential success that they might bring. Baker would be horrible managing the Marlins. EDIT: Ugh, had to go fix all those quotes...it was giving me a headache.
  8. Hey, I'm not absolving Hendry here, but a good manager should've been playing .500 ball with this team. I firmly believe that.
  9. I think you're giving Girardi a little too much credit. Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, Josh Willingham, Mike Jacobs, and Jeremy Hermida were good long before Joe Girardi got ahold of them. I think it's impressive what's going on in Florida this year but they have some really good young talent. Do you think with the same players, that Dusty Baker would be doing as well? Or do you think he'd have picked up players like Tony Womack or Phil Nevin to take over for one of the kids after they struggle for a week?
  10. I wonder if the deal would be contingent on Schmidt signing an extension? That would change the deal some...
  11. I don't understand your point here...wouldn't Walker be attractive to other teams for all the same reasons you think he's attractive to keep for the Cubs? Maybe you're right...it's a gut feeling we won't get a lot for him though. If they're going to have a fire sale, then fine...trade him and get what you need. But I guess I just don't see that they have a real plan for 2B. Maybe they do, and if they do, fine. It's just my feeling that Walker is one of the few OBP sources you have on this team, and we're going to trade him away while keeping much worse players. I'm not even a huge Walker fan, or really all that attached to him, I just don't evision getting a player back for Walker that will make this team better. Maybe it's just the pessimissim that's been slowly growing in me while watching the Cubs the last couple of years.
  12. I didn't hear the whole interview, just a very small bit of it, but Lou was actually defending Baker, essentially giving the "you don't forget how to win" argument, using Baker's manager of the year awards as a basis for him being a good manager now. But then Lou throws this gem at us...: "It's hard to win with so many young players starting all the time." Oh how quick can we sign this guy up??? :depress:
  13. This is such a bogus argument. First off, Lou P. as a manager would be the same as Dusty, so lets pretend he's not a candidate, because it would make me cry. Second, no one's saying that a manager is going to make Phil Nevin into Barry Bonds, that's just hyperbole. But a new manager can make smart decisions about lineups, in game strategy, bullpen usage, and who to actually put into the game. They can play the younger players in order to see what we have going into next season, and can stop making excuses for a horrible team.
  14. Two things baffle me: Glendon Rusch on that list (though his last start will really help Hendry), and Neifi NOT on that list... But Walker is a great piece for a playoff contender; I can see the Mets being very interested, for one. And I'd be interested to see what Theriot can do in the bigs... (although the departure of Walker will probably just mean an everyday slot for Neifi... d'oh!) The thing about Walker is that he's the best 2B that we have the roster as far as all around package, he doesn't cost much at all, and he's one of the few guys that's performed a decent level this season. I also don't think he'll bring much in a trade, so I just don't see the need. But like Hoops said...I don't think he figures into the 2007 plans, because it's clear that the Cubs don't like the guy for whatever reason. So that's fine...whatever. I just wouldn't do it personally.
  15. Putting Todd Walker on the market baffles me...but whatever. I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over it either.
  16. A lot of the value from pitchers comes from putting in the innings, though. A guy who pitches great for 100 IP doesn't provide the same value as someone who pitches equally well for 220 IP. I suppose. I guess my problem with it comes back to those that have the time (or the interest) in making pitching changes to make sure that they're bench pitchers are getting in there every day, thus getting more total innings and stats. But I guess that's kinda what was discussed back at the beginning of the season when discussing daily vs weekly lineup changes.
  17. Personally, my issue with the stats right now is that pitching more innings is going to get you more points. I know we're in the middle of the season, so maybe it isn't something that we'd want to change for this season, but I'd love to have pitchers stats be on a per 9 innings basis. I don't even know if that's possible with the sportsline software.
  18. So...what was this like the 4th doctor visit since he last pitched? And they just NOW decided it was a torn rotator cuff? That just really seems weird. They were so sure it was just a muscular strain or something...
  19. More and more I think Hendry really wants to ride out the season with Dusty so he doesn't have to fire him, he can just not re-sign him.
  20. I sent a post asking if he was going to ask Dusty out on a date soon.
  21. OMG, I posted that! What a dumb answer too. Baker had no other choice... I posted a follow up. We'll see if it gets answered. I've posted 3....he hasn't answered them thus far.

  23. This is good stuff. I think Wojo has a crush on Baker.
