  1. The Cubs don't think so... And if he is, which of the 5 do you bump off the list?
  2. Beaten by a few minutes... http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=33906 viewtopic.php?t=33906
  3. Which makes me wonder if there's more to this suspension than we know.
  4. I'm not sure what was hostile in my post...I simply said the facts don't support your conclusion. Hope you find whatever you're looking for, because I'm not quite sure what that is.
  5. Since when? Good question JR. Maybe it happened in that parallel universe where Ozzie is a classy, open-minded genius. According to the figures I have, the Cubs have outsold the world champs by 35,849...in 4 less games. The Cubs average about 4 thousand more per game. stats My fault. I mean they will outsell them by season's end. But that's because of the playoffs, so it's not really fair to compare. My season ticket rep said the Sox have sold 2.6 million so far, and they're guaranteed to break 3 mil for the first time in the new park's history. Last year I thought I read the Cubs sold 2.7 mil. I don't know how you can come to that conclusion. The Cubs are averaging 4,000 more in attendance per game The Cubs have higher average attendance both at home and on the road. Last year the Cubs had 3.1 million. And so far this year the Cubs have 1.7 million, and the Sox have 1.6 million, not 2.6. There's no numbers on tickets sold for the remainder of the season, but there's really no evidence to support your conclusion.
  6. That killed me...they predicted against the Bears every freaking week.
  7. I really think the Bears are being a bit overlooked by the "experts" because of the offensive issues they had last year...this is from a chat with a Scouts, Inc. guy on ESPN.
  8. Says it was cancelled.
  9. Heh...a statistic stating how statisticians can't account for everything... No real point...just gave me a chuckle...
  10. This is just a really dumb NFC north preview. How do you have a preview like that, and essentially ignore the Bears? He mentions the Bears schedule and contract beefs, but says nothing of their strengths. Meh...I'm just ready for NFL season.
  11. He doesn't even say why Baker would be a good person to manage other than stability. Stable crap is still crap, Phil. There are so many other available managers he doesn't mention that it makes the article all but worthless... Larry Dierker Bob Brenly Bobby Valentine (if you can take him away from Japan) Those are just a few that weren't even mentioned in the article. I know more have been discussed here. Just a dumb article.
  12. The veracity of your "Moneyball, SABR, and all the adherents thereto," sure can be disputed though. You didn't say generally...you said all. And that's a mischaracterization. It's also a mischaracterization every time you say something "can't be disputed"...just because you believe it, doesn't make it indesputable.
  13. Those hippies and their crazy "rock" bands like CSNY.
  14. I Can't Dance.
  15. Moneyball, SABR, and all the adherents thereto. Hooray for generalizations.
  16. Actually, I think that goony disputed it quite well... And the "it takes one hit to score from first?" comments help clarify someone's position. Do they really mean that, is it hyperbole, or am I just mis-reading it?
  17. And I really think that's the only point that most people are making...don't give him away. If it seems like he's gotten a free pass, I imagine it's because despite his deficiencies, he's usually one of the more consistently good players on the team, if only because this team is just so bad. I don't think most people are opposed to trading Walker in a fair deal.
  18. Like most others in this thread, I really don't see the Cubs as having the slightest chance at Zito. On another note, "so he could sell his music" ? Never heard that as a negotiation point. :) It's so tough to sell your music in California...
  19. And he's acknowledging that. Despite what some want to say, this isn't the way things usually go with him and he's owning up to it. He had an extra crappy day on a team having a crappy day. Yeah, but I wonder if there'd be all this nsbb knob slobbing if, say, Neifi had done the same thing and then owned up to it. Like that 2 error play vs the Braves?
  20. I voted RHCP because Zepplin is gonna win anyway, and I like RHCP. Zepplin should win though.
  21. Craig Wilson would've looked nice in RF if Hendry could get him.
  22. For me, this is a case of "sell high". I just don't see Jacque being a part of a successful Cubs team. I think he's a defensive liability, and I don't see him maintaining this level of performance.
  23. I flat disagree with this. We need guys with good OBP. We have Lee, Ramirez - who have a lot of power. For the foreseeable future, we have guys like JJ and Barrett, who can contribute 20-25 HR, and 15-20 HR respectively. Add that to the 30-40 HRs a healthy Lee & ARam will have - and we have good power in the middle. Could we use another power guy? Sure, who couldn't use more power. But, what we need is OBP and lots of it. We don't need a 25 HR guy who gets on base at a .310 clip. Now, as others have said elsewhere, Hendry has no idea of the importance of OBP. As between a toolsy guy w/ no OBP and no power and a toolsy guy with no OBP and a high SLG, I'll take the latter. Thus, I hope we get a guy like Soriano, b/c Hendry just doesn't think a guy like Dunn is that valuable. True. I think with those 4, we have what we need for power, but not by all that much. If we trade any of them, we would be in trouble again in that department. Our power problems were really accentuated when Lee went down. If all 4 of them stay then, I would agree that the first priority is guys with high OBP for the starting positions. Maybe some more power on the bench that could start if one of power guys go down? That might do it-at the beginning of the year though, we had 4 slap hitters on the bench, and so when Lee went down there was simply not enough power in the lineup. You know what...I'd be happy with either of the ideas you guys have, because frankly it would show a commitment to a type of baseball that the Cubs have not been willing to commit to in the past. I'm just not all that picky at this point...just show me a willingness to move in the right direction.
  24. CSNY seems misplaced in a rock tourney.
