  1. I would hate a manager like that. A manager should have to explain himself to the GM when asked, unless the GM is asking him about every little thing. If Joe can't handle a superior asking him why he did something it doesn't speak well for his ability to work within the hierarchy of an organization. I agree with you goon. The more I read about Girardi, the more I sour on him as manager of the Cubs. I'm not a big Girardi proponent, but reading too much into the little big of info that leaks out to the media is probably not a great way to evaluate the guy. I've read a lot about Loria being pretty petty when he wants to be too, so it's certainly feasible that he's leaking all the "bad" info about Girardi. I'm trying to limit my judgement to his actual game management performance, because there's just too much contradiction in the other stuff.
  2. A quick google of "Cubs Ichiro" came up with a Mariners message board where there's a thread about the Cubs having tried to get Ichiro for Maddux. Or course it's just a message board rumor, but this could show that there was previous interest by the Cubs... http://mb8.scout.com/fseattlemarinersfrm1.showMessage?topicID=10135.topic EDIT: Someone later in the thread indicates he has a NTC through '07.
  3. brain fart. But how about those Falcons?? :D
  4. Am I nuts for thinking that we can score on this team? I'm not sure this is going to be the low-scoring defensive struggle that I keep reading about. I'm probably thinking too highly of our offense after one nice outing, but I also think people may be thinking too highly of the Lions D after one nice outing. Carolina was without their best offensive player, and it was the first game of the season...lots of weird stuff happens in the first game of the season. Anyway, I'm going to say we win this 24-6. I don't think it's going to be as close as a lot of ppl think.

    Well then, we're all ears...
  6. We actually have a forum dedicated specifically to the draft. There's a thread there that should help you out... http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=30954 viewtopic.php?t=30954
  7. Roy Williams disagrees. He guaranteed a Lions' victory. I love how he backed off soon after. Some of those quotes in that article make me think he's mentally [expletive]. “When we play the way we’re supposed to play, like our defense played the way they did Sunday … I don’t think there’s no team in this league that can beat us.” What the hell's he smoking? So he thinks that no one in the league can beat them if they play the way they did Sunday. What was the result of that game, when they played the way they're supposed to? I think it was just a poorly worded sentence. What I think he was trying to say is "If our offense plays the way it's supposed to play...if it plays as well as our defense did on Sunday...I don't think there's a team in this league that can beat us". The problem is that he's using "we" to talk about the offense, and "us" to talk about the team. Of course he's still nuts for making the comments in the first place.
  8. Bobby Wade. Bobble Wade had a good game for the Titans yesterday: 5 rec/76 yards. Didn't know he was even playing...
  9. Wow...Peter King must really be harboring some kind of ill will against the Bears. The only mention he has of the Bears in his Monday Morning Quarterback column is in his Top 15 section, where he puts the Bears 4th, but says: Other than that, no mention of the Bears, of Grossman, of the defense, anything. Only quick mentions of how bad the Packers are.
  10. I always, always suck in the early season, then always figure things out and end up slightly above .500 for the season. I don't really get it. It's much harder to tell what teams are good early in the season. I imagine most people follow the same trend you do.
  11. There was just an Ebay commercial during the Indy-NYG game and it had a theme song from some old tv show...anyone know what it is? It was the one where a guy steals the "it" and there's a car chase... EDIT: figured it out...was Magnum PI.
  12. I think we might cover the spread...... :D
  13. Favre bein generous with the picks now.
  14. omg how did Vasher miss that??? :P
  15. If they could get in the endzone from the red zone, this would be a ridiculous blowout.
  16. The Bears figured out that have a fullback and tight end....
  17. absolutely pants? It's a term I'm ripping off from Michael Davies' ESPN World Cup blog. Basically, pants, in England, is a term to describe something terrible, as in "The 2006 Cubs were aboslute pants". It can also be used like this: "In 2005, Derrek Lee turned in a pantsless performance, putting up MVP numbers at 1B." So, to sum up, the scale goes from no pants to absolute pants. You crazy soccer ppl. I can't keep up with your crazy slang.... :)
  18. Yep...think those "experts" that predicted the upset are shaking their heads? Think Peter King has figured out who's playing QB and RB? :)
  19. Well that was a terrible kick...
  20. There's a Sportscenter commercial with the two of em that's pretty funny too.
