  1. Actually I think you'll find Riggleman to be more appreciated than you think by most fans, at least on this board. He had a bad team in 1998 that he got to the wild card (largely thanks to Sammy). It would be interesting to see what he could do with a team that had talent out of more than one great slugger and one amazing rookie pitcher..

The secondary hasn't really impressed me all that much in preseason, but then they've had Brown and Vasher both out...
  3. See my thread in rants... :P
  4. $1400???? That article was saying like around $200 for world series tickets! The $1400 would cover all playoff games, would it not? Therefore, the price per game would be somewhere around $127. That makes much more sense.
  5. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/jon_heyman/08/28/al.busts/1.html In the same article, they rank A-rod as the #1 AL disappointment.

  7. If you go with the Benny Hill theme, you almost have to have the highlights going at like double speed, dontcha think?

The paper this morning said the Berrian thing was minor, and although he'll sit out the preseason game, that mainly because the last preseason game means less than nothing, so why not let him rest it. Bradley will be playing a good chunk of this game, and with his performance, the paper speculates that he could be pushing Berrian for a starting job soon. All that said, I get your point, and I would really like to see us play a game without someone going down.
  9. In the paper either yesterday or the day before, there was a quote where Lee put the fault of the season on the players, and said he'd like to have Dusty back.
  10. Of course he would've made the team better, but to say he would've won that many games on his own is really reaching. This last month is going to be just full of excuses, isn't it?
  11. Thats a very Hendry-like philosopny. The most successful GM's, are the ones who take the most risk's. But not just ANY risk! I could get to work faster by driving the wrong way down a one way street, but that's a risk that doesn't have a high enough reward for me to take. They chances that crappy players will stop being crappy players when they come to a certain team, is probably not a risk vs reward winner. The risks worth taking are things like a historically good pitcher coming off of surgery (Carpenter), or trading a 1b prospect for an up and coming slugger (D Lee), and both GM's have done a good job of that in some instances, but they've taken far far to many risks that just didn't have the payoff potential.
  12. They clearly didn't listen.

    From Foxsports.com:
  14. I think it was Mike Greenberg who said something to the effect of "I would be shocked if Girardi isn't managing the Cubs next year, assuming he leaves Florida." I'm not sure how much stock I put into his predictions/analysis. Agreed. Hendry will go through his "interviews" to make it look like he's going through his whole process, the way he did with Melvin, and Showalter, and Garner, and whoever else he interviewed when he had Dusty in his sights the whole time. I imagine Jim already knows what he wants to do, and who he wants to replace Dusty. I just hope that it's not Piniella.

I didn't see him a lot in '04, but I can tell you he drops balls too often. He has a tendency to make the really difficult plays, and muff the easy ones....imo.

Alex says he'll play in Green Bay, and wasn't wearing a sling yesterday.
  17. they teach clutch hitting well down in Georgia - and just what the heck is timely defense? Someone on this board was talking about timely baserunning the other day...and I was confused.
  18. Banedon

    Alex Brown, probably dislocated shoulder.
  19. Banedon

They're sitting on pass right now...
  20. Banedon

Sorry Jon, but Griese looks much better, much more sure of himself than Grossman. I want Griese in there starting....it's a different team with him in there.
  21. Banedon

    I reallllly like Gabe Reid.
  22. Banedon

Three maybe? But at least one was bogus. True. But this last one sure wasn't... :P
  23. Banedon

How many pass interference calls is that on Wesley tonight?
  24. Banedon

I may just be hopping on the "Griese for starter" bandwagon.
