  1. He hits pretty well with RISP (this season too, IIRC), which is good for a PH. As a PH he's hitting .206 7 for 34 I cited BA w/ RISP, not BA. Mabes is hitting: w/ RISP: .293/.380/.488/.868 (41 AB) w/ RISP & 2 outs: .350/.480/.750/1.230 (20 AB) I know what you cited, but you said that BA w/RISP would make him a good PH. But it hasn't this year, shown by the BA when he's a PH. I was not arguing your RISP stats...I was arguing that they don't tell you anything about his pinch hitting ability.
  2. This isn't a thread to rip on Mark, I just thought as a Cub fan, this really sounds familiar.... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2566243

  4. Not to be nitpicky but they signed A.J. Feeley the QB. Not Jay the kicker, at least not that I've heard. Sorry...you're right. Brain fart.
  5. Where do they have the Bears? Is it Dr Z picking?
  6. He missed last nights game because of his new kid. and today According to Mulligan and Hanley on the Score, it was Loria's idea for Girardi to take time off. His wife isn't due till next week, but since the team was going to be out of town, and with the tropical storms and what not, they didn't want Girardi to miss it. It's of course pure speculation as to whether Loria had some ulterior motives.
  7. Eagles released Todd Pinkston and brought back Jay Feely. George Offman says the Bears have little to no interest in Pinkston.
  8. Well nothing does tell this story. We're all trying to predict what would have happened if a certain event wouldn't have transpired. What in life has definite answers like that? Stats can give you a solid foundation for your opinion. The rest is guesswork.
  9. I hadn't looked up the numbers, and never would've guessed that was the case.
  10. I could see wanting to have Walker and 2nd and Mabry at 1st over Neifi/Hairston at 2nd and Walker and 1st.
  11. There will be no badmouthing of Glenallen! :D
  12. A article about stats, not written by Bruce Miles, that doesn't mock stats? Unpossible.
  13. This one is correct. Morandini received a point in the MVP voting that year, and Beck received 5. Probably Phil Rogers' vote... :D
  14. Gaetti?
  15. Henry Rodriguez and Beck?
  16. I just loved Rod Beck. Him and Terry Mulholland just pitched their arms off that season.
  17. Welcome! :D Actually that's not true about Girardi though. There's a lot of mixed opinions on who the next manager should be, and I would say that while Girardi would be a positive change from Dusty, there are a lot of skeptics about him as well.

Johnson never plays, I'm used to it. We did alright last year without him. That's how I feel. It's hard to call the guy a big part of the offense when he's a FB who only played in a handful of games the past 2 years. He's been a PUP for most of his time here. DD is a much bigger issue, since he was to play a role in the already banged up d tackle rotation. Understood. However, last year we had Marc Edwards who was a very good blocker as well, and a decent pass catcher. Jason McKie was on the team last year, and Marc Edwards was brought in off the scrap heap. McKie was never able to seriously challenge Edwards for the starting gig. That tells you all you need to know about McKie. Runnels will need to step up or the Bears will be seriously deficient @ FB. I hope he can do it. What happened to Edwards?
  19. I guess that all depends on how badly Jimbo really wants Pierre back. Maybe he's ambivalent about it. Trade him...get something for him before he's a FA. Hasn't Pierre said something about not coming back if Dusty doesn't? Maybe Hendry thinks the chances of re-signing him aren't that great. In any case, I'm just giving suggestions of what might "pry" Pierre away. I don't think it's as unrealistic as has been suggested.
  20. Pry him away? With what? Hendry will want near ML ready talent in return. Nothing worthwhile is going to pass through waivers. Why not trade him for propsects, and then re-sign Pierre in the offseason? I'm not a fan of Pierre, and I'd rather he go away altogether, but even if you want to re-sign him, this seems like a reasonable option. Then you can give Pie a tryout with the big club for September.
  21. Actually I think you'll find Riggleman to be more appreciated than you think by most fans, at least on this board. He had a bad team in 1998 that he got to the wild card (largely thanks to Sammy). It would be interesting to see what he could do with a team that had talent out of more than one great slugger and one amazing rookie pitcher..

The secondary hasn't really impressed me all that much in preseason, but then they've had Brown and Vasher both out...
  23. See my thread in rants... :P
  24. $1400???? That article was saying like around $200 for world series tickets! The $1400 would cover all playoff games, would it not? Therefore, the price per game would be somewhere around $127. That makes much more sense.
