  1. My bet is Piniella....unfortunately.
  2. Lucky SOB! Man that was fun to watch. It's the next day, and I'm still on a high.

  4. You're gonna have a hard time coming up with your reverse jinx for this next week... :D
  5. Heh...yeah he's not really great at public speaking.

No one was whining. Someone brought up the topic trying to say that those of us that thought he wasn't worth the money for the entire length of the contract were wrong. We simply can't say that at this point.
  7. I hope everyone enjoyed the Bears being underdogs, cuz that's over with after tonight.... :D
  8. I agree and he seemed to treat people with respect. I never had a problem with him in that respect. And honestly, if you'd have given me a choice...MacPhail or Hendry, it would've been Hendry. I feel like Hendry and Dusty both are very stubborn in their losing ways, while MacPhail is willing to take responsibilty for his failures. I wish MacPhail well.
  9. I dislike Bob Costas.
  10. Looks like while this was a resignation, the Tribune encouraged it...
  11. Yes and yes, they did have dinner together. I don't see Stone becoming the GM. I've been wrong before. I would like to see bridges mended between Stone & the Cubs, which should be easier if Dusty is no longer in the picture. There have been a lot of rumors about whether Ron Santo will continue on as a full-time radio broadcaster --- specifically, how much longer he'll do the road games, since he did miss a couple of road series this season. I like Santo in the booth and hope he continues on. If he chooses to cut back his schedule for health reasons, I'd prefer Stone in the booth as a PT replacement over Otto. The Return of Joe Carter, baby! Can we get the Dusty Baker-Joe Carter-Joe Morgan baseball analysis program please? please???

I was just thinking there was some room for hope in that regard. He has been with the organization for a long time, though, so hard to say if opinions have already been calcified. At the risk of being a contrarian, I think the Cubs have been excellent at times in player evaluation. They traded Choi, Bobby Hill, and Brendan Harris while acquiring DLee, Aram, and Murton. Unlike most of this board, the Cubs were on target about Jacque's abilities. The problem isn't scouting, it's not relying on stats as well as scouting. Finding a platoon partner for Jacque, batting high OBP guys #1 and #2, etc. The management team needs balance, not a complete overhaul. *sigh*...the problem with Jones, for the millionth time, wasn't that people thought he wouldn't perform well this season. It was that we didn't think he was obtained at a good price, and for a reasonable length of time. If he maintains this same level of play for 3 years, then maybe you'll have a point. Well, this day in age I think his production was just fine for only 5 M/year. But that's THIS YEAR! Forget this year. In the last year of his deal, will he perform well enough for his salary? That's the argument. Ok, I hear you, but you can only go by what he has done so far. Nobody know what he will do in year 3, its kind of pointless to argue that right now. You can only discuss what he has done so far, which was a pretty good year. Fine, but saying that 'most of the board' was wrong like was said in the earlier quote is..well...wrong. The opinion that was expressed about Jacque had little to do with his performance this year.

  15. I don't think MacPhail can fire anyone. I thought MacPhail was Hendry's boss. I mean he doesn't fire anyone. See Lynch. Ahhh..gotcha. Misunderstood.
  16. Seriously! Or told FitzSimons, "Yo, bossman, I'm jettin on this disaster," so that we could have found a legit replacement, instead of the tool from marketing. I imagine he did tell him that...and this was what Fitzimmons came up with.

  18. He should've fired Hendry, and then resigned.
  19. If Hendry is retained, I'm not sure this makes a huge difference. I'm not sure how Hendry is dodging responsibility here.
  20. Last I heard, game time decision.
  21. Wait till we have a bye week! :(
  22. I might too. The second half of this season has been good practice for that. I'll always be a Cubs fan at heart, but I can go on hiatus.
