  1. Wow, what a depressing thread. I don't know about you guys but I was pretty sure the cubs were going to lose again sometime this year.
  2. Where would Dunn play? I can't imagine him trying to play RF. He'd be a butcher out there, but imagine him in the middle of the lineup. And Soriano (and Pie if recalled to start) would cover enough ground and play good enough defense to make up for Dunn's miscues. They would not make up for Dunn's miscues. They would help. But they can't catch the balls hit at him or at his right. he's not a good defender, but I have faith that he can catch the balls himself if they're hit AT him.

Plug Theriot in at SS and call it a day: Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Dunn Derosa Kendall Pie Switch Kendall and Theriot if (hopefully when) Kendall's OBP returns to his past few years.
  4. Z's comments make me believe that as long as we don't drag our feet too bad this offseason, we should have little problem re-signing him. I have a gut feeling that we may end up with Dunn which is fine by me. And if nothing else, I have to believe Jacque will be shipped off to anywhere just because of the whole fiasco earlier in the year. With Dunn, we have enough offense and call back up Pie so that Dunn's defensive miscues in RF will be minimal and more importantly Soriano has his best friend back.
  5. Well, during the game, ESPN's bottom line stated that the cubs traded Rob Bowen and Jerry Blevins. So at least they are contradicting themselves.
  6. Well I tried to highlight a few of his stats on his career numbers and was more or less verbally stoned in here. So there are plenty of folks upset.
  7. I'd rather take a chance on Johnny Bench. His career numbers are better. What the hell does this even mean?
  8. I must have forgotten that career numbers mean absolutely nothing, my bad. He's having a down year so far, but for what we gave up, I'm OK with taking the chance on him.
  9. GET THOSE OPTIMISTIC NUMBERS OUT OF HERE! GET THOSE NUMBERS THAT DONT MEAN ANYTHING OUT OF HERE :?: He's not the second coming of Johnny Bench, but those aren't bad numbers, especially for a catcher. We need him to produce for a few months, hopefully he will hit like last year. If not, Lou has shown he will play guys that produce so Soto could get the nod down the road if Kendall continues to struggle. I meant they didnt mean anything because they are from many moons ago and are not indicative of the current Jason Kendall. And I put the numbers in bold that I was talking about, his .308/.384 CAREER second half numbers. Once again, he batted .297/.368 last year, he's by no means a slugger, but he gets on base alot throughout his career.

  11. I know, it sure was disturbing just watching that ex-pirate ramirez double to take the lead.
  12. Well, he accumulated those numbers when he was good and on the Pirates The .384 OBP is his career 2nd half. I'll take my chances he can duplicate that this second half over the terrible play from the C spot all year. He's not signed long term and he's not that expensive(at least to the cubs).
  13. He's making $13 million plus this season. Well, the pirates are paying 5 million of that 13. That leaves 8 and I'm pretty sure the A's would pick up close to half of that. This is the last year of the contract and his PECOTA for this year is: .274/.346/.333 Not great but not terrible. Let's hope he can turn his season around to something around that line. I'm going to let this one play out before i'm ready to throw in the season.
  14. Haha, oh i'm sure they are. They're probably so pissed right now. They're most likely going to break in every time A-Rod, Jeter, or David Ortiz come to the plate and show us their AB. Nah, they'll just make a "Bonds Cam" and show his huge head and talk about him, oh i don't know, say 95% of the time.
  15. *ESPN gets news Barry isn't playing and scrambles to can Cubs/Giants in lieu of Yankees/Red Sox*
  16. i'll bet they got confused and sent Gallagher back down That's good comedy, but I think the thing they could do that is not entirely out of the realm of possibility and would get everyone rather upset is to option Soto. I don't think there is any way that happens. I mean it's been what, 3 games? He's played good defense and he has the best arm of the three IMO. His offense as stated before, could only be an improvement. Hill's out of options, so if Bowen has options, my money is on his demotion. Or, Bowen or Hill could be traded, but I think that is a bit of a longshot.
  17. Lilly's picture isn't working. I would think that would be bad karma if you didn't fix it.
  18. Against Oswalt? I'm not optimistic. Don't we usually own oswalt? i think like a 3.9ERA if i remember correctly. someone posted it a day or two ago 3.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, .282 BAA eh, i'll take it. Lilly looked good last outing, hopefully he brings his best tomorrow. GO CUBS!!!

  20. well the cubs are using my theory(and many others) that your best reliever should be in with the game on the line. baseloaded up 4 in the 7th was the crucial point. i hope that is his role for the rest of this year too.
