  1. did floyd get cortizone shots in his knees too?
  2. Keep up with the negative comments. :) Hey, they often work these days. I'm going to buy a lottery ticket later, can i win? You're wasting your time. Not a chance! much obliged.
  3. My mlb.tv is so behind it's not even funny. however, i do take a sick pleasure in pretending i can see the future. At least yours is working. I keep getting a server error. somebody said one time when they got that error they could access it if they clicked on the mlb.tv link from cubs.com. maybe that'll help?

  6. Did anyone else watch the championship game when the announcer was like "this guy has the 'it' factor. Just like Derek Jeter. He's got it all going for him and he's a winner" yada, yada. I looked at his stats and wasn't terribly impressed but is he the real deal? Did Wilken get a steal for him in the 4th? He's a 21 year old college player at Mesa. I'd like to see him perform two levels higher before getting excited about him. No, i agree with you. This was a few days after the cubs drafted him, when an announcer at the championship game had a man crush on him. Just wondering if I was missing something about him. I am by no means comparing him to jeter, just the schmuck at espn.
  7. He did, but I guess it healed quicker than first thought. But he's right that takes care of the 3 catcher situation which is fine by me.

  9. well at least it keeps things interesting. And at least I care about baseball this July. Last July I was so pissed I couldn't stomach to watch more than a few minutes of those losers.
  10. I just heard on espnradio that Ricky was "called up", however it was HoJo who was going to be the hitting coach and they hadn't yet figured out what henderson was going to be. that's weird.
  11. Could Bowen be heading somewhere? I doubt anybody would trade for Hill, but Bowen could be packaged with somebody - maybe one of the three teams interested in Izzy like Bowen too? the cubs have always confused me, but this year they seem to have stepped their game up.
  12. i guess soto is going to be called up and starting tommorow, so I'd like to see: LF Soriano 2B Fotenot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Floyd SS Derosa (probably will be Theriot at SS, but DeRo should get a shot) CF Pagan C Soto All in all, not a bad lineup. Especially if Soto and Pagan can give us anything at all offensively. Still like the idea of adding Dunn or Griffey, especially Dunn bc it looks like he has a low price.
  13. Yeah, Soto isn't anything special. But you are talking about a legit opportunity to see an increase of 300+ OPS points out of a position, from the ~400 OPS provide by Hill and Bowen to possibly a 700 from Soto. Any such move is going to draw attention. Hey, I'm here, too. Just wish we had more to pontificate about, like why aren't we hearing more about the 3 teams interested in Izturis? Levine mentioned that the Blue Jays and Orioles were having 'aggressive' discussions regarding Izturis. So, while it's not quite "pursuing," at least it's hopeful. haha...id like to see a platoon of Royce Clayton and Cesar Izturis in Toronto That'd be quite a combo. Dusty may even say it's the veteran presence needed to save them.
  14. That's why I was scrolling through the thread, to see if it has been reported that he is or is not with Iowa Cubs tonight. If he's not starting then it's a pretty safe bet he's called up.
  15. Prime years are 26-29. I don't see how it's arbitrary to say a player who is 31 is past his prime. Soriano has an OPS+ of 126 right now, below what he had at 26, 27 and 30. Prime years are not static for everybody, it goes back to what Have a seat, Neifi! was talking about. His OPS+ for this year is trivially lower than a couple years past, especially considering the difference in OBP making up any difference in league/park factor. The point is that Soriano is playing just as well as he has at any point in his career(again, look to last year's numbers at the break), I don't see how you can say he's past his prime just because he's 31. Also, 26-29 isn't universally accepted as the normal prime years either, ranges from 28-32 have also been cited. OK. Let's not lose sight of the point here. Whether the prime is 26-29 or 28-32 Soriano, Lee, and Aramis are not "entering" their prime they are "leaving" their prime. I never said they were "entering" their prime. I said that 31 wasn't necessarily past their prime.

  17. That's just hilarious to me. I'm sure all that productivity is really hampering the teams ability to win a World Series. Yeah, his career postseason numbers are actually quite good(.280/.362/.485). He's just been really bad these last two years in the playoffs.
  18. haha, i was looking for the mugshot and came across the "pets" picture. I find that weird on a few levels.
  19. I read neyer's chat on espn at noon and he said that it would be 50/50 in his opinion that arod would re-sign with NY. That's basically some overpaid "expert" who doesn't have any idea, riding the fence. I have no idea why Arod would announce on all star day that he wasn't resigning. That would make for an awfully awkward second half in the bronx.
  20. I'm just saying that any of those players that I mentioned and a lot of others could have a career year past the age of 30. It wouldn't be the first time and it wouldn't be unheard of. Many players won't, but others will. I understand what you are saying, and I agree that many don't duplicate their career best years which are often in the mid to high 20's. However, each player ages differently and those that keep in very good shape are very likely to have great seasons well into their 30's. That was my entire point to begin with.
  21. and for the record, I was never arguing that Soriano was or was not past his prime. I was simply saying that I thought that age alone was not enough to determine who is past their prime.
  22. That's a really bizarre and arbitrary definition of peak. For crying out loud, a lot of players still produce as well as ever in their early 30's (even 31.5  ). If they are, then I would say they are still at the "peak" region of their career. What is so damn bizarre about that? Obviously each player is different then another. So to make the statement "a player over 29 years old is past his prime" is too broad of a generalization. Some are, some aren't. I think i'll just go bang my head against the wall now.
