It's easy after a player struggles and loses trade value to say we should have traded him when his value was highest. But it was because he was performing so well that he got the contract or the playing time. Hendry didn't trade barrett this past offseason because he put up great offensive numbers. Lou didn't demand him being traded because he probably thought his offensive contributions would outweigh his defensive short comings. In the end they didn't and he was dealt, which has worked out well so far(coincidence or not). Hendry has made some good trades and some bad ones. No, or at least very few, GM's have an immaculate record. I'm not a Hendry supporter, he has huge flaws such as the contracts he gives out (both money and length) for marginal talent needed at the time to fill holes and not stressing enough stats such as OBP enough. I think this team would and will do better in the future with another GM, but I disagree with the analysis of this particular article.

I doubt either will. I definitely wouldn't if I was Frank after my GM basically called me a pansy to the world when I left.

Yes, I do. Welcome Bruce! What happened with the Jones trade? Yes, it is a privilege. Sully's a friend. On the other thing, it wasn't Sam Zell. Was it Hendry or someone from the Marlins? More Hendry. Is there a market still for jones? this has to be awkward for everyone involved.

I didn't see this posted before: according to signonsandiego.com: In talks with the Padres, the Cubs offered to pay the remainder of outfielder Jacque Jones' $4 million salary for this season, plus all of his $5 million salary for 2008 in return for a low-level prospect. Preferring Terrmel Sledge over Jones, the Padres declined, after which the Cubs dealt Jones to the Marlins. I have to imagine that is not all true though, they wouldn't have to pay anything??? Either thats wrong or the prospect was a pretty good one. Jeez, jacque may indeed be worthless if this is true.
